Phil was NOT asked about the Series S cost increase. These are incorrect statements being spread around as if they were true. This needs to be corrected.
OK I finally found the full clip - to be clear he was not asked about the XSS pricing…
The question was:
“Brazilians are very passionate about everything, especially video games. How do you think this passion sets the Brazilian players apart from other countries?”
“leads a global team of 400+ professionals and oversees a budget of over half a billion dollars” reading Jerret West bio and this stuck out to me but i feel that it’s a little to low for marketing money especially when it feels like they don’t feel like they market their games besides gamepass ads
It’s really sad what they’ve done in Brazil, especially with how well the Series S was doing there, it was such a good deal that it was even used in mainstream shows as “the” gaming device to buy over there, the way Microsoft manages this brand just doesn’t make a lick if sense to me.
I wish they’d actually try with hardware again and bring back J Allard and Peter Moore for that, they knew what they were doing when they were at Xbox, they would need to put in actual effort in Europe though, can’t expect people to care about your brand when you constantly keep showing them you don’t care about them, if Brazil goes the way of Europe that will be sad.
Phil explained why, they were taking a bath on the hardware and even now it’s still their lowest-margin device. PlayStation is eating huge losses to try and maintain their base, not even grow it. It’s just not economically viable to keep losing so much money when they’re mostly growing on PC (xbox)
