I’m sure they are working on it. The most important thing is that stock is ready for Starfield (and Forza).
I saw a TV ad for Diablo beta with Xbox logo during the Sweet 16 tournament last night. Prime time, high profile sports event, network tv. I think owning major IP will help advertising visibility of the Xbox brand.
And that’s the trouble with Team Xbox. Things will be better in the future, never in the here and now
You dont think the here and now is so much better than the there and then?
Not when it comes to big AAA exclusives. Don’t tell us, it be better in the future
I think its been a rather poor year from MS bar Hi Fi . I thought the big push on last years June showcase was to focus on a small number of games that would make it out over the next year and yet Starfield will not make it and it looks for all the world that Forza won’t too.
Don’t tell us MS, it be better next time, next year, next showcase. Its always the same it be better in the future
I really think Aaron Greenberg needs to be moved because Team Xbox PR sucks BIG time . SONY is just doing so much better at the mo, for getting games out and making your system more desirable with good PR; All we’re getting form MS is a push on Diablo IV on YouTube, its lame and pathetic , when SONY are pushing the PSV with high quality prime time TV ads
Youtube is where the audience is tho.
What Xbox needs it a steady stream of 90+ rated games, so that people feel the pain when choosing PS5 over XSX. Not much Greenberg can do until they have multiple such titles.
People still watch TV and SONY also pushes the PSV on YouTube. MS is spending a load of dosh, pushing a game that even isn’t exclusive to their system or will be on Gamepass , you couldn’t make it up
The ongoing MS-ABK-Sony drama is mostly about Sony no longer being able to put the Playstation stamp at the end of COD commercials, those advertising deals are effective for platform holders.
If you’re SONY. I hope for MS shake that the XBox Series X version will be the best console version of Diablo IV since they’re pushing the game so hard.
The Diablo ad is on American TV. I’ve seen it while watching March Madness tournament.
I do agree with you about Xbox always telling fans to wait. It’s frustrating. Although I do think an onslaught of first party games are coming. In the interim Gamepass has been great. Hell MLB the show is day 1 releasing this week, that saves me $75 from not buying it. Diablo will be Gamepass, Starfield, etcetera. Actually about Xbox PR I think they are doing better than you are giving them credit for. Reading comments on OtherEra PlayStation thread is entertaining, gaming “journalist” comments, random Twitter meltdowns, all these things are ‘get the popcorn’ moments. Xbox is living rent free in gaming culture these days. They’ve been living in the denial stage of grieving and hoping for a miracle to stop this deal with Activision and Bethesda exclusivity. Thier world is crashing right now.
We’ll have to see if Diablo will come to gamepass, I think the team have said there are no plans too, even if the buyout is agreed upon (ok thats just PR) . I love the Series X, Gamepass and everything XBox, but the PR sucks
For sure when you have the number of teams and the amount of money Team Xbox has good games will come, but I’m sick and tired of waiting and seeing endless interviews with Phil and the gang all saying ‘we get it’, ‘we hear you’. ‘It will be better’, but ‘in the future’.
We’re nearly 3 years into the Series X and so far MS done a rather poor job of getting AAA exclusives out, much less showing off its amazing GPU and 12 Terraflops and Team XBox PR has been so poor. Maybe that will all change come Starfield, but that’s months away.
This time the future is almost here, Redfall is weeks away. The game doesn’t seem to have insane production values (honestly, Prey seemed more impressive in that regard), but as Prey was my second favorite game of 2017, I’m giving the studio the benefit of the doubt…
Like I say, everything is always , it be better in the Future. I like playing games now, not in weeks or a few months’ time. I can’t wait for Redfall, but I doubt it will be a game that says ‘You must buy a Xbox’ and that whats Team Xbox really lacks compared to SONY and its big AAA games on the PSV that are already out. I really like to know whats the deal with Forza too, surely we should have a date by now.
It’s all very well buying all these studios, but maybe more attention should have been spent on running the studios Team XBox already had, far better, before adding ever more studios to the portfolio
Look at the best of 2017 (off the top of my head):
- Zelda Breath of the Wild
- Prey
- Divinity Original Sin 2
- Hollow Knight
- Nier Automata
- Persona 5
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Horizon Zero Dawn
- Wolfenstein 2 (that’s a bit of a stretch but whatever)
The first 4 are only getting follow-ups this year (6 years later), HZD’s sequel came out after 5 years, Persona 6, new Super Mario and Wolfenstein 3 aren’t on the horizon yet (though they’ll likely get announced and released a few months later, so who knows when and where). Games simply take a long time to develop if they’re going to be up to the standard everyone expects, whether they’re managed by managed by Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo or leading 3rd party publishers.
Microsoft only started ramping up their internal development in 2018, so it’s no wonder we haven’t felt the impact yet. Given Microsoft’s continuous presence in the market since 2001, you might argue they shouldn’t have waited until 2018. But it is what it is, nothing that can be done about it now. But the reason we’re still waiting for those games is that ‘attention is being spent on running the studios team xbox already has’, the games can’t be churned out at rapid pace and be up to snuff.
I am excited for Redfall, it doesn’t rival Sony games in terms of production values, but Arkane has incredible pedigree, Prey was my second favorite game of 2017 (DOS2 taking the crown). Realistically, only a few studios from Microsoft will be able to match Sony’s cinematic flair, if that’s what you’re looking for, maybe Ninja Theory, Machine Games and The Coalition. OTOH Sony’s output is a bit homogenous for my taste and I’m more excited about the variety MS can offer. Xbox looks poised to have a much better 2023 than Playstation from my point of view (1st party offerings in particular - Hi-Fi Rush, Forza, Redfall and Starfield vs Spiderman 2?), but I can respect if you think otherwise.
My guess is there will be alternating years when Playstation, Xbox or Nintendo comes out as the best 1st party publisher, but the years where Xbox is consistently the worst are behind us.
It’s just endless excuses for Microsoft. What’s RARE been doing they haven’t made anything since Sea Of Thieves, Hellblade 2 was one of the very 1st Next gen games shown off and years down the line we haven’t a date or seen any meaningful gameplay, State of Decay 3 another game shown off years ago and we’ve yet to see anything about the game since and whats happing with Fabel or Perfect Dark?
In contrast SONY shipped out a sequels to GOD Of War, Horzion Zero Dawn, GT, Ratchet and Clank and spinoff’s to the likes of Spideman, or a amazing update to Demon Souls. even Capcom doing a far better job of pumping out amazing AAA games with nothing like the manpower or funding to MS studio’s
Team XBox PR sucks and their handling of the studio’s doesn’t appear to be that great. Its all very well buying all the studios around. Make better use of the ones you already have. I will say Halo Infinte Forza Horzion 5 and Psychonauts 2
I’m only ranting, because I want MS to do well and the Series X to get the credit it deserves and I love to give it back to some of the SONY fans too TBH
Too much 2022 energy in this thread
I agree with the points you make. That said, I’m still frustrated with Xbox output. Every year should be an “E3 of dreams”. I think we’re finally close to that with the number of studios, investments, and Xbox buying 2 huge publishers.
I think Nintendo has been very frustrating too. Clearly they went all in on the Wii U and have been able to coast through most of the Switch generation with rereleases. I see Nintendo as a sleeping giant building it’s Switch 2 games in secret Mario Kart, Smash, and at least 2 new Mario platformers.
PlayStation has been the most frustrating of all the big three. They appear lacking in studios and ip. Total smoke and mirrors. They can’t even stop making PS4 games ffs. PlayStation is lost and it’s not clear to me they have a path forward to bring me back. I sold my ps5 after 2 years because I was bored to tears by it.
All this to say, I think we should be criticizing all three companies. At least Xbox has me excited.
SIE Santa monica took a 5 year after they make god of war ascension to God Of War 2018.
Sucker Punch Production took 6 year their latest infamous to Ghost of Tsushima.
Guerila took a 5 years from killzone to horizon zero dawn.
Ninja Theory? their latest game was released in 2020.
Perfect Dark by the initiative? the studio was founded in 2018, and their production passes in 2020.
In case of Rare, you should know that Sea of Thieves is a live service game and it took a really many people.
And, the most of the AAA new IP took at least 5 year to 7 year nowadays. Xbox Game Studios just need time.
I think it was more 4 years with Horizon tbh and Guerrilla Games were able to get the sequel out 5 years latter and while it took SIE 5 years to make GOW they put out Ragnarok 4 years later and you have Insomniac Games who been able to push out a number if titles and will no doubt get Spiderman 2 out this year
In contrast, we have RARE who 5 years after SOT have nothing at all to show and GOD knows when Everwild will ever make it out. The Forza team haven’t made a new game since 2017 and we still haven’t got a date for the new game. State of Decay 3 was shown off before the console ever launch and we’ve seen nothing since and the likes of Perfect Dark seem years away. I get the issues with Fable mind setting up a new line takes time
Its get so boring to hear or read Team Xbox needs time, it be better in the future. Probably this will be all forgotten come June, because I expect Team Xbox to have a stunning show but I hope and want some big hitters shipping this year. I also think Micrsoft knows its got to deliver this year
