Xbox Marketing Talk |OT|

Sequels come out faster. Plus a lot of the studio’s Xbox bought were finishing other games. Such as inxile with wasteland or obsidian with outer worlds.

Some of these studios have had to grow to transition into a AAA studio plus Covid hit.

Stuff like everwild and state of decay 3 were in dev hell.

It’s not really excuses. The situation is what it is, if you’re not happy then I won’t change your mind, but your expectations in terms of time frames are unrealistic.

In particular:

  • Rare did not spend the last 5 years doing nothing. Their primary job has been supporting Sea of Thieves.
  • Guerrilla and Sony Santa Monica spent relatively swift 5 and 4 1/2 years, respectively, developing their last games. But keep in mind they were already big studios and had a blueprint ready for their games, both being straightforward sequels not shaking up the formula too much. Meanwhile Microsoft bought mostly smaller studios, growing them during pandemic whilst developing new game concepts must have been a more arduous task.

For me the situation is sort of whatever, I have games to play and I can wait if I see the potential and I certainly don’t need to " take it back to Sony fans" as I don’t interact with them online.

Your posts read like Xbox doesn’t already have an amazing lineup of games for 2023. Is that not enough for you or are you concerned that they might not hit their dates?

It is an excuse, what RARE can only work on 1 game every 5 to 6 years? while

We all know that Everwild got issues and that’s down to the handling of the studio, other studios have LIVE games but are able to work on other titles at the same time, contrast them to Guerrilla and they’ve got 2 games out and COVID effected the whole industry really and really if they was one corp that should have been better able to support its staff working from home it should be MS with its CLOUD.

Just compare what SONY has been able to get out, to what MS have over the last 3 years since the launch of the news consoles . On the PS5 we’ve had Horizon Forbidden West, Retunal, GT 7, Astro’s Playroom, Last Of Us Remake, Demon Souls Remake, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Sackboy: A Big Adventure

What do we get from MS? Gears Of War Tactics, Forza Horzion 5, Flight Sim, Halo, Psychonauts 2 , Hi-FI and the promise it will be all better in the future

Its little wonder when the PS V is still the console everybody wants

That’s my point it’s all about what’s coming in the future. We’re nearly 3 years into the Series X and still it’s the promise of it be better going forward. These days with Microsoft I go on when they ship a game because I don’t want to get my hopes up that it ‘might’ come out this year or soon

Its a shame too, because the Series X is most prob the best console I’ve ever owned, but SONY are doing a far better job with its studio’s and getting exclusives IMO.

2023 is not “in the future”. That’s now.

I still standby that PlayStation is a paper tiger…

I said this rant a year ago… (I’ve since sold my ps5 out of boredom)

………

No disrespect but I think people need a bit of a reality check when it comes to PlayStation IP.

Spider-Man and God of War are top tier quality and deserve praise. They are very popular however … beyond those two games, things drop off fast.

-Ratchet was pushed very hard by Grubb and others as a must buy and to be honest it wasn’t even good enough to make my top ten list for the year. Ratchet has never been a very likable character and the PS5 game was over hyped.

  • Horizon Forbidden West was the sequel that no one was asking for. The first game was fun and unique but by the end of it I had had my fill of sneaking around hunting mechanical dinosaurs.

-Gran Turismo is okay but once you compare it to Forza Horizon or what we all expect to be a current gen showcase title from Forza Motorsport, I would say Gran Turismo is a decade behind the competition.

-Ghosts of Tsushima is just like Horizon Forbidden West in that it is another unnecessary sequel. Seriously when you make a Ubisoft clone game you need to ask yourself why Assassins Creed changes the characters and settings every game. Ubisoft > ghosts of Tsushima.

  • Last of Us remake and Last of Us remaster and Last of Us 2: online… give me a break. This will bomb hard. No one cares anymore.
  • Spider-Man … again Spider-Man is great and popular but he needs to leave New York. This map has been beaten to death already and it’s only been two and a half games.

Look these are some harsh truths. People can try to deny that these problems exist but I am willing to bet that waning sales will reflect that I am correct in the end. PlayStation has a serious problem with sequels, remakes, and lack of excitement this generation.

I’m saying Ghosts or Tsushima sequels will lack that necessary element that Ubisoft puts into their games. Every game needs a new setting and protagonist. Ubisoft is smart enough to know this.

It’s okay to point out flaws in PlayStation. Not everything is a troll. I’m open to discussing why you think I’m wrong.

I stand by my assertion that Last of Us is a franchise on the decline. I predict the next remakes or online thing will barely register for most gamers. We’ve moved on.

Don’t get me wrong I will buy Last of Us 3 but a remake? Yeah no. I don’t think there is very many people asking for that. I hope for a different game though personally. Very talented studio, Uncharted would be my preference but I’ll buy whatever they put out. I’m just done with rereleases and remasters of Last of Us. I don’t think I’m off base here, this is likely how most people feel.

I think I represent the opinion of a more mainstream direction and where the potential future will be if PlayStation stays on its current path. Games need to be constantly changing and my lack of excitement is in the PlayStation sequels of Ratchet, Ghosts (if there is one), Gran Turismo, and Horizon.

I don’t think any PS5 game is doing massive numbers. It all depends on where you put the goal posts. Gamers will flock to Gamepass this generation and the player numbers of Gamepass will dwarf PS5 player numbers. Miles is a success and what I would call evergreen. It will sell massive numbers eventually. The other PS5 games have all had lower than expected numbers and they are somewhat evergreen but more in a value bundle kind of way. I’m of the opinion that some of these games exist because they are safe bets with built in audiences of hardcore PlayStation fans. The problem is I don’t see much growth when PlayStation is too reluctant to mix up the formula.

Halo Infinite was a big innovation from Halo 5. Infinite just feels so good to play. The Last of Us 2 was a big jump graphically from The Last Of Us 1. So I know both Xbox and PlayStation are capable of making sequels that are worth getting excited about. People should play both of those games.

Forza Horizon 5 uses a familiar formula but god damn if those graphics aren’t jaw dropping and the gameplay absolute perfection. The game really needs some DLC map additions though for variety. I’m hoping DLC1 will surprise drop in 3 weeks. Gran Turismo is too far behind to even compare at this point. Their technology is a decade behind Xbox.

God of War is great. But I’m not going to pretend like the graphics in the new one don’t look completely dated at this point in the current generation as a “prestige” title. Nevertheless it’s day 1 preorder for me. I will be spending $70 + tax and will be excited when it releases even if the graphics come off not using the full power of the PS5 to me.

The Spider-Man map is old to me at this point. Miles just added snow. Great game and I loved it but at the same time I want better next time. I expect much more effort for the next game. But at the end of the day I’m excited about Spider-Man 2 and will of course be spending $70+ tax to buy it day 1.

I think Ghosts of Tsushima and Horizion Forbidden West are PlayStations obsession with copying Ubisoft. The thing is nobody does Ubisoft better than Ubisoft. That’s my option but it’s also the mainstream opinion. I understand PlayStation diehards might say otherwise but that doesn’t reflect the larger gaming fanbase. If PlayStation wants to compete with Ubisoft they need to learn to change the setting and protagonist every game. Simple as that.

I can play the new Forza and also Starfield now ?

I’m not a fan of SONY but they have done a far better job with PR and also more importantly getting games out either In-House or published by them. Team X Box couldn’t even get a next gen game ready for launch, it may have only been a remake but at least Demon Sould was a next gen game and showed the jump over the previous gen.

I don’t like Spider Man MM, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, R&C and not a huge fan of GT7 Ect, but they’re big AAA games, out on the system, in contrast we get Forza Horizon 5, Flight Sim, Hi-Fi and Halo with the promise it all be better in the future.

I do also tire of the excuses people make for MS (ok I get people tire of my rants) but all corps had to go through COVID, corps also have to expand their teams, support LIVE games Ect. In the time since RARE made Sea Of Thieves, Respawn have made Apex Legends (a LIVE game) , Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and next month will ship Star Wars Jedi Survivor

To me that’s poor studio management of RARE . MS should also be making far better use of the studios its got and not just look to buy all the studios out there. I would like SEGA next though, please Phil LOL

I only rant too because I want Team XBox and the Series X to do so well

I just think it’s a bit weird to be like “I’m sick of waiting!” when Redfall is out in literally a month.

It’s still waiting and this is coming after the long wait from the last BIg AAA exclusive which was Forza Horizon 5 over 1 and a half ago. Its just not good enough

Yeah, it has been a long wait, and that wait is about to be over, in just a few weeks with Redfall.

Also, Halo was the last big AAA first party game, not Forza.

I forget Halo was a December title, still like Forza over a year and a half ago and we’ve had nothing since . Don’t get me wrong Hi-Fi is amazing, but its not a AAA title.

SONY on the other hand has pushed out God Of War Ragnarok, Last Of Us Remake, and Horizon Zero Dawn 2 in that space of time while Team Xbox had no counter. It’s sometimes hard being an Xbox fan and trying to fight the SONY fans on the likes of NeoGaf, Twitter and whatnot.

Childish I know, but like with footy… I love it when my team is doing well and my rivals are hurting. I so hope we smash the Jacks come Saturday LOL

All were delayed titles that were supposed to be from the previous year.

I think their mind is made up until the games have actually hit, so yall are wasting your time lol

Yeah, we know 2022 was a bad year (despite Pentiment and Grounded being critically acclaimed). We all know and it’s been rehashed to death. Everyone is over it.

It’s 2023 now and 2023 is looking like one of, if not the best year in Xbox first party history, and that starts in a matter of WEEKS. Not years, not months, WEEKS. In fact, it already started in January with the D_D and Hi-Fi Rush. It’s time to let 2022 go and focus on what’s happening now.

Also, Sony’s 2022 was almost entirely made up of games that were delayed out of 2021, just like Xbox this year.

Exactly!

Xbox has to build up their studios for AAA 1st party status. It will take a little longer, I’m confident in their investment. We are getting small teases of Ninja Theory improvements with Microsoft. I can’t wait to see Compulsion and Undead Labs step up in game development and fun!

And Halo wasn’t also delayed? that was meant to be a 2020 title

@TeamAndromeda

You’re ignoring the drought they had the prior year. I brought up that all Sony releases last year were delayed from the prior year to assist you in recognizing the pattern for both. Sony had their delays in 2021. Microsoft had their delays in 2022. Delayed Titles one year means Feast the next year. Microsoft should be looking great for 2023.
