It’s because Xbox knows JRPG is the best genre :triumph:

Turned on my TV and this is the first thing I see, also saw when it was on a big screen on Times Square, honestly I think I’m seeing almost more marketing for this game coming to Xbox than I saw for stuff like FH5, I wonder if it could mean MS worked out a deal for future Persona games to release on Xbox at launch? Just seems like a lot of marketing for an old game, it’s interesting but I like it, at least should hopefully show some Japanese publishers that MS is serious about getting their games on Xbox.

Edit: oh look at this too.

Good these advert especially with how big they are even if you’re not interested in these games are striking and big enough to make people think and remember Xbox and game pass as a big deal in people’s minds

SEGA Europe was at it’s best when it still was on it’s own and not a subsidiary of the awful Sega of America (which pushed their shitty voice acted versions on Europe and other stuff that just didn’t work in the market. It also was behind the stupid Dreamcast marketting of only marketting the console in 4 countries :frowning: ).

But yeah, during it’s best time? SEGA was bloody crazy, with their marketing  .

I mean, many of the things SEGA of America did was horrendous, and got “whitewashed” by a fanbase that wanted to blame SEGA of Japan’s old fashioned powerstructure. But really many of the things Kalinsky and others like him did were just… really stupid. Like “Oh the West doesn’t like RPG’s sorry, please keep those Saturn games in Japan”. thinking. To name one thing.

They also completely forgot that SEGA was big in Europe, mostly for catering to markets that Nintendo didn’t cater too. So by the time the Dreamcast got there, and they only marketed in certain Playstation heavy markets, it was another nail in the coffin. They then blamed it on Sony and again the “fanbase”. For goodness sake, many of us wend to Germany and France to get the DAMN CONSOLE!

I mean nice and all that they had big football clubs to sponsor. But they should just have released it over the entirety of the market. Heck, publishes like Big Ben eventually released games in European markets that were cancelled anywhere else! That much Europe loved SEGA. But leave it to the Americans to fuck something up.

(NO offense intended to Americans, just SEGA of America did some really stupid shit) .

People say “Xbox marketing sucks” or “Sony and Nintendo marketing is great” without actually citing examples of what Xbox are or aren’t doing and why it’s bad, or what Sony and Nintendo are doing that’s so good.

All of our experiences of marketing is anecdotal and circumstantial. The only people who see the DATA and the TANGIBLE RESULT of the marketing is Xbox themselves, and clearly they make decisions about what to do or not to do based on that data. If they don’t do something, it’s because it’s not worth doing, and the things they are doing are the things which actually have a result on sales or Game Pass subs.

We have no idea if the Persona billboards will be effective or not. It looks flashy and exciting, but we have zero evidence that it will actually lead to increased sales, subs or public mindshare. Also, it could very much have been paid for by Sega and not Xbox.

There have been many examples for instance playstation sponsoring major sporting competitions, tv spots during those events when they have a high audience, tv advertisements to go alongside social media adds, billboards etc

Right, but do WE have evidence that doing that stuff ACTUALLY leads to increase sales, player numbers, engagement, subscriptions etc?

We can assume that it does and in all likelihood it probably would do, but we don’t KNOW. The only people who know are the marketing teams at Sony and Xbox.

Like I said, if Xbox isn’t doing something, it’s probably because it isn’t effective or doesn’t fit their goals. The stuff they ARE doing is probably what works, given that all of their important metrics (console sales, player numbers, Game Pass subs, engagement, player spending) are on the rise.

Now with Persona 5 marketing they are using banners and various images promoting the game (on the buildings, in the underground). Sony has been doing that for years and we have been asking Microsoft to do that too. But the common response was “if Microsoft does not do that, then it is not efffective”.

So, now with Persona - I guess their decided to waste some money on promotion? After all it supposed to be not effective

They also partnered with some football clubs - something that supposed to be not effective too and something Sony has been doing for years on a bigger scale.

Will not be surprised if everything that was done by Sony and something that people claimed to be “not effective”, will be done by Microsoft too.

I’m not saying that stuff isn’t effective. I’m just saying that fans make assumptions about what is and isn’t effective and the only people who KNOW are Xbox themselves, so we just need to trust that they know what they are doing (and clearly they do, because the metrics they track are all on the rise).

It’s not like Xbox has had much which is Times Square banner worthy over the last year. Sega could easily have paid for the banner and not Xbox.

I just don’t like criticism based entirely on assumptions.

But that’s the point of a debate on a forum. No one is ever going to know the inner workings of these companies everything debated is an assumption that’s the point of the forums. If we were to just say well I’m sure they know best there’d be nothing to discuss.

Also I don’t think it’s a leap to believe Sony think it’s worth while sponsoring the champions league when they are paying an estimated 45 million a year to do so.

It’s not only the sponsorship getting people buying a PlayStation is the gravitas of looking like no1 and a big deal. Sony sponsoring the premier football tournament makes people believe PlayStation is the premier console etc. It’s all about perception as well. Xbox being non existent will make Xbox seem 2nd rate in people’s minds.

Which is why I love the Times Square bill board. That looks like a big deal even if you don’t like persona, if it’s enough to make people think Xbox game pass it’s done the job

I agree with you 100%, another thing to think about is Sony could be getting these deals cheap because they’re #1 and these companies want to partner up with the most popular gaming company. All the deals like stadium and football teams could cost Sony pennies because their marketing position and it’ll cost MS a lot more and maybe these companies don’t want to partner up with Xbox for all we know.

There is a lot more into Sony doing X why does Xbox not do X than people think.

That’s fair. But people assume Xbox’s marketing is bad when we actually don’t know that it’s bad. That’s all I’m saying.

Don’t talk about anything that isn’t Halo, Forza or Starfield

Redfall needs as much advertising as insert convenient game here despite not having a release date and not even coming out this year.

Isn’t this advert for Redfall similar to what Bethesda is giving us for Starfield. Where they release snippets of the game to engage with the people who are most active in video game news? But not some major advertising effort to bring on the hype engine?

The fact that the main Xbox account on Twitter with 19.8 million followers hasn’t anything else about Pentiment besides this tweet is a bad look and indefensible…

It takes very little effort to talk about it on the main page, nobody is asking for Pentiment to get a huge marketing budget but come on… at least tweet about it so millions can potentially see it.
