Not to mention retrofitting ForzaTech for this sort of game (I presume).
I would bet money on 2024 release.

Yeah, covid for sure.
I forgot this is on ForzaTech.
Not sure what others thoughts are, but I think for non service games, Xbox should abandon doing DLC. Instead, make seperate games by scaling what they would normally do as dlc. This would feed gamepass with more content/games and very likely the content would get played by more people.
DLC included tier for game pass.
I don’t think there’s a one size fits all approach.
Hivebusters would probably have made more sense as a standalone release, but DLC for games like Starfield and The Outer Worlds is a better fit in my opinion.
Also, future Halo campaigns will technically be “DLC” for Infinite like the first campaign was, but it’s really only a technicality.
DLC is a lot of time an opportunity to experiment on stuff they can’t necessarily do on a full game scale. I’m no sure. I think including DLC in GPU would be a great move to add value there (perhaps when eventually price goes up or they remove Gold)
Thinking back I’m not sure Xbox has released that many DLCs for campaigns and single player games anyway, I basically don’t remember any other than Hivebusters. They might have already been doing what you suggested lol
I would consider Halo a service game, so not what I’d apply this to. Gears and The Outer Worlds though would make sense to me to scale up a bit and do as a seperate release. Heck Gears Hivebusters could have started a new spinoff series if it was standalone.
I don’t think you want a separate release for RPGs. You’d have to make your character again, or design something to allow people to import their save. It’s easier to just make it DLC . I don’t know what an “expandalone” RPG would even look like.
Edit: Also, in TOW for example, I want to be able to travel between the DLC planets and the rest of the game, or tackle the DLC mid-way through the game, with all of the same gear and companions and skills. You can’t do that unless its DLC.
I do agree about Hivebusters, though. I think the only reason they didn’t is because it was short, and making it longer would have taken another year or so at least.
This makes more sense than just switching everything to separate games
Don’t get me wrong, the more games and content I get in regular GP the better but from MS perspective a DLC tier makes more sense
They could just have Ultimate be the DLC tier. Maybe that’s part of how they make up for Gold going away.
I thought they would give GPU subs one free battle pass in Halo but they didn’t (probably because they knew people would buy it).
At the end of the day, I think it’s fair to ask people to buy DLC when they’re already getting the game for “free”. The money saved on the game can be spent on DLC etc.
I think the problem is that the big advantage of game pass for Microsoft is how it fuels other revenue sources - including DLC sales. They don’t just have the revenue of the monthly subscription - with more people able to play all of these games they are selling more DLC (everything from major expansions to microtransactions) and this makes them much less reliant on subscriber growth than other subscription services. I don’t think we’re going to see them give that up any time soon, but I think @MrEvil37 has the right of it - there’s not going to be a one size fits all approach. I think there’s going to be situations where what you’re describing will make more sense - using content to boost game pass as a platform. I think Halo Infinites campaign expansions is a good example, I would be surprised if they weren’t released onto game pass and treated as a big new Halo campaign release in Microsoft’s advertising.
I guess I’ll be the one to post it, screenshots of what potentially could be the Xbox Kojima project have leaked. Overdose.
Is is that one that Kojima is teasing right now ?
Who knows
We know Kojima is working on at least 2 games, one of them is all but confirmed to be DS2 for Sony and the other is the xbox game
It’s extremely unlikely they are working on 3 games as KJP is relatively small, not to mention when asked Kojima has only talked about 2 games
Overdose is either the xbox project or it’s what he was working on with Stadia but it was scrapped
If I had to guess it’s the xbox project, those screenshots really don’t tell us much though and why are they always blurry af lol
It’s possible. Many people automatically assumed the pictures of some actresses and stuff meant it was for DS2, but maybe it’s actually for the Xbox project.
We assume Overdose is the Xbox project, have we had any reputable sources back this up too?
That screenshot looks like it’s from Death Stranding, the way the skin and the lighting look, so it’s probably DS2. I doubt Kojima will use the Decima Engine for his Xbox game
Wow that is way earlier than I expected, with the news of Edios I think it was helping, I’m starting to think this might be closer than we thought. Do we see a teaser at TGAs this year for a late 2024 release maybe?
We have known that at least some sorts of pithcing/concepting started in 2017, maybe even before it was a Fable IP. It was very likely not anywhere near active development back then.
