I think they always thought about XO as way to meet directly with the fans and celebrate with them. But maybe they could do something digital, much like they did with Fanfests.
Digital shows are boring. XO should be something like fanfest. I really miss crowd reactions.
Microsoft Ignite is an in-person event later this year. Perhaps XO22 can still be in-person?

Anything is possible, though its extremely unlikely.
I think Microsoft has a better chance at acquiring Crytek and the CryEngine than acquiring Unity
Everything doesn’t need to be acquired and not every partnership is a sign of acquisition.
Sometimes companies just have goals/needs/skills that align and find a state of symbiosis.

I’m not sure how much they’ll explore tech acquisitions right away. They got their hands on a lot of tech with ATVI and that’ll take a while to sort through and develop a tech strategy across publishers as it is.

Unity is used by a bajillion indie devs and more out there, alongside UE, I imagine it’s the most widely used engine out there
CryEngine while capable of producing some very pretty games doesn’t scream must use or produce anything particularly unique over something like UE5
If they were in the market of acquiring engines, they’d never be choosing CE over Unity

I personally don’t see Microsoft acquiring small studios. If they don’t announce anything on XO22, we should not expect anything. Why would Microsoft buy studios unless it is a defensive purchase - you will have to pay for the all benefits for the studios and so on.
I think you are wrong. Strategically located studios with perhaps an IP or two is always interesting. I don’t think anything hinges on X022 either, why would it?
