That’s what I expect as well. While Xbox certainly doesn’t necessarily need even more RPGs (although you won’t see me complaining) they do need more JRPGs or more like, one of their own. Singleplayer at that.
If we assume Xbox went for the MP one, because it keeps people coming back…I just hope the other one is at least multiplatform. I think these would be Global Publishing deals, right?
My predictions for XGS games this year on MC/OC:
As Dusk Falls 77
Pentiment 86
Grounded 80
I think MS isn’t looking for big single player games to publish from independent studios because those have almost always had negligible or negative returns on investment for them in the past (Sunset Overdrive, Alan Wake, Quantum Break, Ryse). The thing with big single player games is that they have to be exceptionally good to do well, maybe publishing doesn’t ensure that like 1st party where they control the whole process and quality, while with multiplayer games they really can be just decent and still get great success and roi.
For more big and quality single player games, it’s more acquisitions imo. Could be wrong and hope I am and they get some of them big single player games from independent studios. There’s gotta be plenty this generation with UE5 making that stuff easier for devs and such, but if it’s just acquisitions that’s good still, or even better.
But with those games you mentioned Game Pass was not a thing yet. I would wish Xbox gives these games another chance (they certainly are for Wo Long) because it will likely turn out very different this time around. If the rumors by reputable sources are right most of publishing has made deals for MP games, games that keep people coming back, but Wo Long isn’t that kind of game. So with that in mind I hope Xbox from here on out balances it out nicely.
Oh wait, I think I’m now mixing things up. Wo Long isn’t Publishing.
I’m talking about big single player games in general, not anything specific. Most of the XGS and Bethesda studios will be making big single player games anyway, I’m just saying I don’t think Publishing will be looking for big single player games, that’s all.
The ironic thing is I think Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break and Ryse would have done really well for Xbox with the hype this current gen, especially if they were on GamePass.
Their best opportunity recently would have been Crystal Dynamics and Eidos but they obviously decided not to jump on them.
But like Alan Wake didn’t do that good during Xbox’s best years, and the others didn’t do well even when Xbox One was selling well early on.
Yes Game Pass definitely changes thing, I don’t think MS would have heavily invested into single player games again if it weren’t for Game Pass.
MS is making plenty investments into single player games, moreso than in the past. I really do wonder what y’all be seeing lol.
No denying this. It’s just it seems XGS Publishing (from rumored and leaked info) seems to be focused predominantly on multiplayer games.
So I’m just thinking, Flight Sim will probably have a Starfield promotion DLC huh
I think people are gonna be surprised by pentiment. The art style is gonna put some people off but I think it’s gonna be great
It’s not really a surprise if Josh Swayer makes a great game, at least it shouldn’t, it’ll just be a much more niche type of game.
Did their previous lead leave.
They may have several Leads. Think of Lead as just another level in the job hierarchy. Like at my work department with just a little under a dozen developers we have 3 “Software Engineer Lead”.
No, she just got promoted to lead.
No, no Fable is in trouble. This might mean they have rebooted the whole thing obviously
Nah, you are thinking too small.
The studio is closing
Are you a Game developer BRiT?
