Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

Why are people so damn pessimistic about everything, of course the first thought of some people is to worry about if someone left and not congratulate someone getting a promotion.

Yeah, my work has a similar ratio in our dev area. Actually in general most of our IT dept seems to be approximately 3/4 people under a lead or higher.

I am a Software Engineer by trade with over 30 years of professional experience across several different industries. I have friends and coworkers who are or were in the Game Industry. I am not in the Game Industry because work-life balance wasn’t beneficial to be in it.

I wish they’d do something like “Remember Me” again.

Hi guys! sorry to chime in but this really caught my attention. So…they dont pay “too” well compare to what you have to do?

Vampyr 2!!!

Gaming pays less for more hours than other areas of software development. That’s the reason I didn’t go down that path as well.

Before even taking hours worked into account, the base salary was 50% higher in Corporate America / Enterprise levels compared to Game development. Getting a job in the Corporate world is far easier than in gaming, and your career advancement is faster in corporate world too. Typical hours worked are 45-50 a week, but in the Game industry the push to work more used to be constant to point of 60-70 hours a week on the low side. You’d feel almost guilty taking just 1 day off on the weekend.

The real killing was in being a consultant where every hour worked you’re paid for. At a point still relatively early in my career my billable rate was obscene. We’re talking Lawyer level of obscene rates. I travelled to where I was needed. Even outside game industry, I had some project stints with crunching too, working 14 hour days week in and week out. I grew tired of all the crunch time working and then traveling home late Friday and flying back out late Sunday.

What good is money when you have no time to enjoy it or you’re never home to relax with friends and family?

Thats the long rambling answer.

Thanks for the insight guys. Cant Imagine how hard and difficult has to be for those devs who have to crunch most of the time to launch their games.

May the gods chaos hear you peter. Theres a lot of room for improvement for Vampyr and I think Dontnod can create a great sequel if they put their minds into it (if they are working in Vampyr 2, of course hehe).

Then have annoying gamers bitch and moan about every small thing and harass you online, I’m actually shocked some stay in the industry so long.

Agree completely. Absolutely loved Vampyr and having to choose to be good but weaker or bad but stronger was so damn cool because you really had to make decisions.

I’m pretty sure a new deal between Dontnod and Focus was officially announced, not just rumoured. I would imagine it’s Vampyr 2.

I also think it’s likely that Dontnod are working with Xbox on another game after Tell Me Why.

To be honest I wasn’t thinking of Vampyr or Remember Me when I say this, Vampyr wasn’t even good, and Remember Me was just quite decent (loved the memory manipulation mechanics) but what Dontnod do well is the interactive narrative adventures like Life is Strange and Tell Me Why, I want another one of those.

Hope you’re right

How about acquiring them altogether
