Pentiment team + Grounded team unites
This would be great, but I get the impression Josh got tired of Fallout and being associated only with it dude probably wants to be be known for more than that. But Todd (through pressure from Phil) can probably convince him
To make TES 6 come out faster
Fallout 1/2 remakes won’t happen unless you are talking about isometric ones.
Even with Pentiment, people will continuously ask him about Fallout New Vegas. The game has the cult status and hardcore people doesn’t want him to work on anything else.
And why is that?
Because FO1 and FO2 (any of them) would require the amount of work comparable to making the completely new Fallout game from scratch. Who would want to spend the budget on that for the remake of the game from 90s, when you can make a new Fallout game instead?
Being a remake means not everything from scratch though. They have a lot foundation there with setting and story to reimagine and build upon.
Groundiment!
You might be right, but Josh still talks about Fallout all the time and he clearly loves the franchise. I bet he has ideas for what he would do in that world, and if the arrangement with Bethesda gave him and his team as much creative control as reasonably possible, I could definitely see him being interested in doing it. Especially now that he’s got Pentiment out of his system.
That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pentiment or Grounded teams begin work on whatever Obsidian’s next smaller project will be after Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2. They will need more smaller projects to hit 7 games in 7 years!
Speculated timeline:
- 2022 - Grounded and Pentiment
- 2023 - Avowed
- 2024 - The Outer Worlds 2
- 2025 - smaller project
- 2026 - smaller project
- 2027 - Fallout: New Vegas 2
A lot of that foundation will require complete rework. They only probably have they story and quests here. Everything else will require making from scratch. And even with quests there, they will have to think about filling the world with more of it the world map will be fully 3D.
Fallout 3 or new Vegas, and a morrowind or oblivion remake seem like no brainer to me. I don’t think they should sit on franchises
Exactly who is going to make all those remakes?
if your talking about remakes I would say have at them unless they are going to be multiplatform. At that point have the team work on newer stuff.
IMO, Josh is never going back to being the lead on a AAA game, he’ll consult, as Studio Design Director of course, but I don’t think that he wants to be the main guy again on something with that large a scope. Maybe he’ll do a new CRPG IP next, I’d love it if it was a Cyber Punk or Alpha Protocol type isometric game.
A no brainer until you realise that it would take a team of a few hundred people and 3-4 years of work
At that point why even bother with a remake when you could make something entirely new
The shame is that people will constantly mention New Vegas when talking to him
Yeah, I feel like it won’t hurt attempting it and could outsource it to a studio that specializes in remakes or remasters. I know there are fallout and elder scrolls MMOs, but don’t think you can sit on traditional experiences that long in both franchises.
It won’t work for the games like RPGs unless it is 1-2-1 remake, but older games are just too outdated at this point and will require filling the world with quests, new cutscenes and dialogues etc. Not to mention all those dialogue screens that will require new models etc.
You know what, I’ll absolutely take an isometric Alpha Protocol spiritual successor with gameplay inspired by Invisible, Inc and/or Phantom Doctrine.
Looking at previous messages in here, it looks like you all want Xbox to do more E3 kind of events (I do too). They seem to be wanting to do more. Remember this job listing found in March?
