What’s happening with Fable is not anything different from any other development. I am pretty sure there were features that was cut off from God of War for example. Scoping and descoping is happening all the time in the development.
That’s the thing. People act as if something unique is happening with Fable.
Oh I know that, literally every single game ever made has gone through this and it’s a normal part of game dev which is why this entire thing is so damn weird. All of the GOTY games and the games that are shit all went through hits, this is what I mean about Xbox games are under some weird ass microscope to the point normal dev work is being turned into some shit that the devs are struggling, when in fact scoping like this is what you want a dev to do >.>
Due to leaks mainly. How many leaks do we have from sony’s studios? Or Bethesda studios?
Regarding Starfield we had only one leak from some rogue developer and who was obliterated within a day.
I wish she didn’t say anything about this or acknowledge it in any capacity, trolls will find this as ammunition as confirmation that they indeed down-scoped the game
It’s just weird the things that “leak” it’s not usually game features it’s always the team is struggling or what not. Like we’re not hearing leaks about Fable and gameplay systems but that they’re scoping. I think it’s probably Xbox staff are too kind and like to talk to the community which is a great thing usually but then people seem to take what they say and broadcast it.
The problem is multifaceted. We have multiple camps there
People who does not want Xbox to succeed and jump on every opportunity to dunk on it
People who has traumas from the previous gen and want games to be released or succeed
People who does not care about Xbox proper per se
Xbox One took a heavy toll on the people as the whole previous gen Xbox experienced losing games from the platforms, not having a lot of games released, not having heavy hitters and highly acclaimed games thus Xbox was constantly under the attack from Playstation community. It created a very strange situation where we have people who are against console warring (“we should not do that”), people who pray to get games on the platform (“even if not exclusive”).
It does not help that
Microsoft announces games too early
Microsoft experienced a lot of delays recently
Microsoft is rarely fight back against the narratives
Microsoft devs in general do not really engage into console warring (like Insomniac and ND post meme gifs all the time for example)
Once people see the game all these concerns and worries and stories and leaks and whatever will be gone. But that’s probably still going to take a while.
But I do think a behind the scenes kind of thing would go a long way to just show the fans what they’ve been up to, how it’s coming along. Something similar to the Dead Space remake videos so far.
No it’s not due to leaks, it’s due to bias, trolls, and media that fuels that; most major AAA studios have had reports of crunch, abuse, dev hell, toxic culture and they fade out pretty quickly, but when someone with no credit says something remotely not-good about an Xbox studio/game it’s picked up by trolls and media alike as some reliable report that [XGS studios] is in trouble, mismanaged, and all that BS.
I do feel like some Xbox people have bullshit console war crap from the playstation side rub off on them and sort of make them take on those complaints / poison their own opinion.
Not to mention media was heavily against Xbox and even now it tries to create narratives. With Playstation community being much more vocal online and Xbox community self regulating itself (preventing console warring and so on), it creates a relatively skewed narrative. Xbox community is much open and closer to Nintendo in that regard, but the difference is that Nintendo lives in a different world - it does not even have games that are moneyhatted or it does not work with the devs that released games to other platforms (most of the time) and so on.
Also don’t forget that weird japanese fetishism or whatever it is called where japanese people are some kinda of unicorns that won’t work with american company and rather retire, or that america does not understand their culture, or Xbox cannot have exclusive games there, or Microsoft cannot acquire anything there and so on.
Japan has plenty of countryside for them to crib from in any case. They just need to dedicate a decent portion of the map to a city environment, say the size of the deserts in FH3/5.
I believe a lot of people (if not most) like me, they want Japanese settings due to this Tokyo drift, Initial D magic rather than the pure open world (like Mexico)
