Xbox Game Studios |OT9| How many games would a game studio make if a game studio could make games?

I would really love if Gareth continues working with Xbox.

His number one goal though? An original science-fiction game, with no pre-existing ties. “I feel like I have something to say in science-fiction that hasn’t been covered yet,” he says with knowing smile. “I’d like to be able to do something like I did with Ori in the science-fiction realm.”

This is also interesting… He missed the chance on Starfield for sure

Imagine if Grubb had never said a thing about FH5 last year, nothing about its existence, nothing about Mexico.

The surprise would have been so much bigger and better when that announcement came. That’s why I am glad nothing has leaked so far.

It just shows that if Microsoft want that, we won’t get leaks.

But it is too early to tell.

Eh I think this is the an example l agree with leaks ruining a bit of the presentation. Since the location is what drives excitement of forza.

Where as if say we leak a new iteration of an IP or will be at a show

I feel like those leaks build up hype to see a show.

In short major details video, images, locales, story beats, etc are imo bad leaks.

Genre, title, project names… acceptable leaks. But to each there own.

I’m one of the people who expected Japan for FH5. I’m glad Jez and Grubb said it was Mexico well in advance tbh.

In the end, Mexico was the right choice. It’s the best map they’ve done yet.

No leaks is great though.

For Japan, they have to find a way to make racing in the cities more entertaining. I think the main problem is that cars are kinda big.

But it’s not a problem in some other games, it’s very likely because of how the cars handle and the speed. The speed is perfect for the more open races, but those closed off street races not so much.

There’s a lot of arcade racing games in urban areas. They make roads larger usually.

That’s true but as I observed when riding the car in Horizon and when you stop beside the window or the door of the house - the car looks really really huge. In real life it is smaller.

Oh okay. I never really paid attention to that tbh.

It doesn’t change the fact that Japan is doable imo. Maybe less varied than Mexico, but I think if they did Scotland, nothing is really out of the table.

It also saved us from the fake leakers that would’ve said it is in Japan, trying to pass off their guess as insider info. Then everyone would’ve ran with it and got all hyped for FH5 in Japan, then they reveal it and it’s actually set in Mexico and a little bit of disappointment because it’s not what they initially thought.

Less than two weeks until the Xbox Showcase now :gimme:

We’ll finally get to see how some games look, get to see brand new game reveals, and more.

Not sure if any of you noticed (see screenshot :eyes:), but it looks like Xbox is starting to prepare more for their showcase! :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

I really feel for game devs. They always need to turn the other cheek against the bullshit being spread about their work due to some troglodytes online seeing every response as a ‘confirmation’ of bogus rumours being spread.

Xbox devs sure get that the most as of late. Even after 2021, folks are relentless to make sure the people they work under will fall.

Pretty embarrassing that developers have to come out to clear shit up some “insiders”(lol) spew.

This clown knows exactly zero about the development state of Fable. And he seems to know even less about general game development.

I think there will be more of it for a while - especially when Xbox will start producing more games, and then less of it. It does not help that Sony’s devs are actively engaging in that too.

Granted that at least on Xbox side somebody is able to fight back.

Isn’t this exactly what happened to CP2077? They kept adding and adding then went oh shit we’re launching soon and nothing is fully optimized and we’ve added so much stuff it’s going to take a long time then they cut a bunch and launched in a big mess… I don’t want a CP2077 and no player or dev would want that.

This 1000% did you see a bunch of articles from media outlets that Dice should be taken off Battlefield and lots of public outcry their first season has only started 7 months after launch?

Not really. During development there are always various mechanics that devs play around and remove later.

Like for example maybe they wanted to add flying to Fable, played a little bit with it, saw that it causes a lot of issues - removed it. The problem with CP2077 was that there was not enough time to finish it all. Not every company is Microsofft that can delay the game for a year.

Which is called feature creep, they added too much stuff to be able to finish it which is part of scoping the game. They didn’t scope correctly and went over budget work wise and couldn’t complete it. I think what this whole Fable thing is about is they are scoping now to make sure they don’t go over the time budget.

Meaning they are probably currently looking at what they have in the game now, what they have planned to add and features that they would like to add, then working out what has to go, what needs more time and so on.
