Yeah the last two months especially have been bonkers and it looks like it will continue till the end of the year. A lot of variety and quality, whoever is selecting the games really deserve a kudos.
define āworkingā and āproperlyā, lol
I played through it couple of months ago, had no severe bugs but performance is still often rather terrible (on Series X). Game is good if you like exploration, but you have to live with severe stutters even on VRR displays. There is no combat so framerate is not that important but it still sucks.
Yeah, that was what I was referring to. Been holding off playing it waiting for it to be fixed⦠I guess at this point it never will be.
Not going to bother then.
Allegedly there was a new patch with performance improvements in the beginning of September. I had completed it already by then.
edit: let me just try it out with xCloud
edit2: seems to work a bit better, less stutters and fast travel doesnāt take a minute anymore. framerate is still not stable.
Aight, thanks for checking it out!
Just finished Outer Wilds.
Unfortunately I ended up using a guide a lot, especially further in the story. I had no issues finding out where to get next, as long as I read everything but the stuff they want you to do on some planets is stuff I wouldnāt have come up with without a guide.
Iām also not a huge fan of the scientific space terms being used here. At first it was cool but it got a bit too much for me, unfortunately it just didnāt manage to fully keep me invested in the story. I have to admit that I am gonna watch a summary video because some story bits I just donāt get.
What I really liked is the atmosphere, some planets were awesome to visit like Giantās Deep and Dark Bramble, without going into spoilers. The music is great, visually nice. Loved taking off in my little ship and just visiting these planets.
I understand the timeloop of 22 minutes, but canāt deny that it started to annoy me greatly after a few hours. Just let me do my thing. Thatās probably just a thing of mine, Iāve always hated timers, no matter the game.
Iām gonna see if the DLC is going to be for me.
I think I ended up using a guide in a couple places, I think to be fair there is a couple puzzles that arenāt immediately clear and the creators have taken steps to try and improve it so I donāt think itās really their intent for people to be stuck on these problems for long. What sort of story bits did you not get, by the way? Just out of curiosity, cause I might be able to just explain them. Or I can reveal how much I have forgotten about the game!
If you enjoy the game Iād definitely recommend the DLC though, you might still end up with the same criticisms as it doesnāt do much to rectify any of the complaints you have listed but it is ultimately a fantastic DLC. I will avoid saying more.
My goodness Deathloop is incredible. I agree with some that it takes a little bit to get the hang of things, but man this game just keeps getting better and better for me. It is designed brilliantly in my opinion, and it absolutely makes me more excited than ever that Arkane is part of Xbox first party!
Right there with you. Timers in games are a huge pet peeve of mine. Almost always cause me to bounce off the game - at least if itās a core game element.
Holy crap!
We better get this mutiny moving quick before @PhantomFox deducts points!
I was digging Unsighted until it busted out like 30 different timers. Didnāt pick it up since.
Okayyy, whatās going on here?
(I actually agree about timers, but uh, letās pretend I donāt)
With you matey
May be a hot take, but I think the timers in Dead Rising make it a substantially worse game. And Majoraās Mask for that matter!
Tbh I thought I was in the other backlog thread.
Completely seperate. Though if youre going to introduce new players to Personaā¦5 is the way to go. 4 is still great but lacks the modern polish of 5. 3 while great is outdated in many aspects. Portable version especially so.
If youre into story theyre alll great regsrdless
Man i cannot wait for royal on xbox. 16 days left Fucking crazy. I never ever thought wed see Persona 5 on xbox. Wow.
I had such a terrible first experience with Outer Wilds. I started the game compeltely fresh - because thatās what everyone had told me - and I forced my self to give it a go and see what it was about. I didnāt know anything about it at all, not even the genre, so I was rudely awoken.
The first thing that happened was that I didnāt know it was a time loop. I died on the home planet three times (I am terrible at video games, btw) trying to fly the ship, and each time within the timeloop window, so never encountered it. I even went to get the launch codes three times becuase⦠well, thatās how games work, right? You die, go back to the start.
Anyway, once I got out into space I guess I went to the hardest place first, got teleported to a room, and got lost, died. Fifth life, did the same again but then went to another planet. Finally got the hang of traversal and died when i ran out of oxygen. Sixth look I fell into a black hole (I think?). Seventh loop found a cave and jumped and diedā¦
After a while, I was like āthis game is tough as nails! itās a nightmareā and went to a guide (this is like two hours into my runs, I reckon) and thatās where the time loop is first explained to me. I was like āwhat the fuck?ā and realised it wasnāt for me.
I appreciate itās a transcendental experience for so many, but once I realised there was a 22 minute loop I knew I had to bail - there was no way Iād enjoy exploration knowing that iād have to literally do it all over again just to get to certain places, and then a few other people explaining the puzzles⦠yeah, it sounded like a game built by the nega-version of me to be a game that Iād absolutely loathe.
At the time, I was very angry at the game, but what I have since mellowed on is that I donāt need to enjoy every game, and that doesnāt mean that there is something wrong with me! I forced my self to play LA Noire back in the day because I spent Ā£50 on it, but I hated it - and was shite at it.
Maybe Iāll go back with more distance knowing what Iām to do in it, but obtuse survival games feel like tricky bullshit simulators that test my patience
Gamepass makes me feel a lot better about trying something and know that IF I am not going to like it, I can stop without guilt.
Itās very interesting to read the different opinions on it and I can definitely relate with several things here. When I first started playing it at least two planets were being talked about on the home planet. So I decided to go with the one that sounded most interesting to me, this turned out to be a mistake because the other planet is super close to the home planet. So it makes sense to go visit that first.
Story wise nothing made sense on the planet I ended up on. Decided to watch a very small bit of a playthrough of only the beginning and I saw where I had gone wrong. I decided to restart the whole story and do it ārightā this time. Stuff made a lot more sense until it became a bit complex and sadly it just didnāt manage to keep my attention, it went on a bit too long about all that stuff.
I definitely relate with you about the timeloop, when you have a game like this, a game that really invites you to explore it just sucks to have something like that in it. Especially when you get to certain parts like the Sun Station where I kept failing the jump and fell into the sun. This part required me to wait at least five minutes until this bit became available to me because of the sand. It was only until late game that I found out that dozing off at the campfire skips time, I had no idea, lol.
Very true about that you donāt have to like every game. In the past there have been several indie titles that had received massive praise but it just wasnāt for me. For me personally Outer Wilds also had enough great stuff in it that kept it worth going on with. The timer didnāt destroy my motivation to keep on going. I enjoyed the planets, atmosphere, gameplay and some story bits too much for that.
And boy has it brought my hype level for Starfield way higher than before too, damn, haha.
