Xbox Game Pass |OT| Our Backlogs Are Doomed

Outer wilds is a masterpiece i never enjoyed playing.

Also because of the timeloop or other things as well?

In fact, now that I know Outer Wilds has timers AND a timeloop, it fell way down on my backlog list.

It warms my heart to see all these timer haters here. I’m one of you!

The worst are underwater timers for drowning. Fuck em! Be more like Tomb Raider Underworld :+1:

It’s a bit unfortunate because while I dislike it, since I like to take my time to explore, there’s also something special about it. My first timeloop was when I was just checking some stuff out in the game and I was flabbergasted about wtf had happened. But in a YouTube video I saw someone just chilling, flying in his spaceship with the sun in the background until it died/exploded and his reaction was just cool. There are plenty of very cool things in this game, so while interesting, I also hate them, haha.

But I do have to mention that this annoyance about the timeloop only really began when I got to parts that were annoying and I had to do it all again. If it had annoyed me to death I wouldn’t have continued. But such things are different for everyone.

For underwater parts it makes a bit more sense, like in Mario games or GTA and many others. I forgot how TR Underworld did this, did Lara have diving equipment?

I hate it. It’s a stupid mechanic that goes completely against how I enjoy games. I want to explore and investigate, immersing myself into the world and lore etc.

Another member of the timer haters club here, also the Outer Wilds just didn’t work for me, you combine a short timer, with the puzzles, and the ship controls not being intuitive for me and it was put on the shelf very quickly.

I guess I’ll be the first to not be against it. I think in Dead Rising the time limit meshed extremely well with the gameplay and setting of ā€œFrank only has 3 days to be hereā€. I’ve basically mastered DR1 and can do all the side content and true ending on a NG file (so starting from Level 1) and I actually do have fun trying to beat the clock doing it.

When DR3 massively toned down the timers and DR4 got rid of it entirely the games just felt like dull zombie musou games to me. The identity was lost.

Timers, when done right, are fun to me.

I agree with this, in that stuff like Dead Rising or Majora’s Mask wouldn’t have worked without their timers.

But unfortunately, I’ve become much more of an anxious mess since I played those games, and the idea of restarting because I wasn’t fast enough is just a big bummer. Not that I’m saying that’s what Unsighted would have done, I really didn’t give it enough of a chance (which I regret)

I disagree as those are two specifically I mentioned. Give me more time to mess about in the mall, take pictures, kill zombies. It wouldn’t make it less fun for me. Let me really explore Termina without fear of a day resetting and a moon destroying things. Sure, you’d have to modify the story a bit but that’s not what makes a Zelda game great imo. Anyway, Game Pass thread and all so I won’t derail more! :grinning:

I finished up Prodeus today. Wow, that’s quite a game! Absolutely loved it, it’s the definition of what a modern-retro inspired boomer shooter should be. Flat out, it’s a better game than Metal Hellsinger which has garnered much more attention. I also really enjoyed Beacon Pines and Tinykin. Game Pass is on a roll and next week it seems like another onslaught starts.

But AI: The Somnium Files has it too

Yeah it does, but it was never really an issue as long as you used the timies correctly. However, it was completely unnecessary and is definitely on the …but why? -list.

Agreed! Especially in one of the last parts, it was confusing enough already, hated that part.

Eh, the timer there is more a puzzle mechanic and not really a timer. The problem in these puzzles is not the timer but the ā€˜plot’ / ā€˜logic’.
