Xbox+Bethesda Showcase 2022 | Community "Watch-a-long" thread [Spoiler & Leak Free]

Still baffling after all of these years both twitch and youtube can’t broadcast in 4k. It’s a shame Mixer got bounced because it was the best platform for actually streaming, but I do understand its hard to take market share from twitch and YouTube

I hear ya, but I think some don’t mind if games announced early skip shows. I think the show was just missing a AAA or 2 . I think social media reaction shows that the show was positive for Microsoft, but also shows we need to have more shows throughout the year.

Yeah, but I think a lot of us go in with expectations of what should be seen and are let down when it doesn’t happen. Shortening announce to release cycle prevents that (in a world without leaks at least) while also let’s top ten focus on creation of the game.

Forza Horizon, for example, is typically announced 6 or so months before release. Zenimax appeared to do this as well until recently. I don’t really see a down side to shortening it as long as you have enough content on a year to year basis. A Microsoft + Bethesda + Activision combo will put out enough games on a yearly basis that there isn’t much reason to announce stuff years in advance.

Is there more information about Wo Lung, whether it’s a normal action game or a soulslike?!

I think tricky part is this was in June which is E3 season and some have expectations to see games that are far out. I think having a show like this is strong in selling gamepass because 90% of the games shown are launching on gamepass, which is a selling point. I think maybe placing a show like this in the fall could be better, but I think Microsoft should keep a show like this since gamepass is a major selling point.

As I said before I think this should be the last year where they only have one show per year. Either they start late this year or early next year, there has to be one Xbox show between now and next June, and we know they hired people for that kind of stuff so we’ll see. I think them having specific rules/limitations for this show (12 months release, all gameplay) indicates they would want to present other extra showcases without those specific rules. Just one would literally suffice, as a start at least.

Is it really about games that are far out though? What would make announcing games 6-12 months before release less exciting than announcing games 2-4 years before release?

Imagine if Wolfenstein 3 was announced Sunday and hit that fall. Would have been huge. They could achieve that sort of thing yearly by focusing on the 12 month window.

Yeah, I think this strategy could be strong once their studios are hitting on all cylinders. Just hope starting next year we have more than one big showcase

once again, MS’s plans being ahead of its time, to their own detriment lol

Nope. It didn’t completely satisfy everyone (not us forums dwellers especially) but the show was successful and generally positively recieved. It achieved so many good things for them.

Who knows, maybe XO returns this year?

With so many studios and soon ABK too just one big show every year is ridiculous and the sooner they walk away from that thought the better.

Even if they keep opting for “next 12 months” for their E3 shows, there should come a point where they really do have plenty of content that the need for games farther away isn’t as big.

Even so, I wouldn’t say no to some smaller streams here and there to cover the farther away titles.

I think it will return. Especially considering that public events are returning.

Shh… you can’t be a logical big-brain if you thought the show was good. The only games that matter are the ones ”I” like duh

That’s the most fascinating there - while internet communities was tearing itself apart over the show (an Hoeg lambasted the show immensively) it was popular and highly rated show among the regular folks.

yeah the show was great for a more mainstream audience perhaps but for more of the enthusiast crowd, the 12 month filter ensured there was a less than stellar reaction (like how Avowed was supposedly ready to show last year itself on top of all the “soon” from Obsidian, and yet the game couldn’t show this year either just because it isn’t releasing in the coming 12 months).

It’s already more viewed than last year’s show too.

I personally already said the show wasn’t the best for me, it felt inconsistent and I greatly missed XGS, but, it set to achieve things and it achieved them very well. Many great games coming to me on Game Pass next 12 months, that part is amazing. But I missed some things, and those things were limited by the 12 months/ all gameplay rule.

This last event had some very shrewd business decisions in it, that might not generate hype.

The Riot partnership will generate millions of new subs all on it’s own.

Any person that spends more than a few bob a month on a Riot game might as well subscribe to GPU. These games are MASSIVE in Asia, a key growth market for Xbox.

Plus the mobile stuff too.

Very clever deal.
