Xbox+Bethesda Showcase 2022 | Community "Watch-a-long" thread [Spoiler & Leak Free]

I enjoyed the show, very happy that they went the 12mo route. Something Ive been asking for years before I joined Xbox. Glad to see that feedback didn’t go unheard. Riot games announcement is huge. Flintlock is a definite play. Redfall looks better than I thought it would. Starfield is amazing.

Supposedly there is new reveals at the extended showcase so I’m curious what we will see.

How are you supposed to know of a game not being there prior to an event though? It’s not like they’ll go on Twitter and be like: “by the way, don’t expect the banjo remaster at this showcase”, that just won’t happen.

I also have a hard time.understanding how one person, in a like what, 40 or more games announced, could only find 1 interesting game, it’s almost impossible.

Would prefer 18 months because it would include the second half of the following year and still be very reasonable. More than that, if they do the same next year, I just hope they announce it a few days before the showcase because until Sarah said that the showcase is centered around games for the next 12 months, I was fully expecting to see Avowed and Contraband gameplay. Other than that, I wouldn’t mind the 12-18 month roadmap.

Flintlock looks pretty good and am glad that A44 decided to put actual faces on the character models. Couldn’t get past that in Ashen. Redfall is definitely my type of game. Hoping they show more of these two games tomorrow. Will give Starfield a chance.

I have since looked at the leaks, and Avowed not being there was one of them no?

No, I said there is only one game I would buy Day One. Starfield. Not impossible at all, there’s a handful others I will check out since they are on GP though.

Thought some more on it and I really hope this 12 month thing was a one and done thing. Let’s include some games further out too, no reason not to. Next year for example, we could see Avowed because it could be coming in the holidays or Q1 2024 and some other games. Then let’s say John Johanas has a announcement trailer for his new game, but it’s Q4 2024, just include it. Majority of games coming in those 12 months is fine, but please do include some further out stuff. Or maybe the need for that won’t be there next year because they should be having a lot of stuff coming, by XGS. But even then I say, include a few.

Also, I really hope Xbox picks up their pursuit of going after big third parties too, even if it’s solely for marketing, just make sure Sony or something doesn’t walk away with it. It’s clear all about Game Pass, so much that their interest in bigger games just coming to Xbox seems to slowly go away. It feels that way, at least.

the 12 month thing is fine for me if it means more shows during the year. This event felt like if MS had a SoP like event every three to 6 months and this was one of the bigger ones, cuz half the stuff in the show could have been in a smaller stream, no disrespect to any games featured, only a matter of elevated expectations at big punctuated events.

I wonder if the future plan is to stick to talking about the games coming out in the next twelve months with gameplay and an announcement cgi trailer for games coming for the 12 months following that? It would solve two issues, announcing games too early and then getting the constant where is the gameplay for theses titles and showing off gameplay too early which either means the game looks in a rough state or Devs have to waste precious time making a polished vertical slice.

Would mean when a game gets announced in the future we can get to see it in action within a year and playing it in 12-24 months. A more predictable scheduling would take away a lot of the questions people throw at them

I have an idea. What if for marketing and communication sake, Xbox could partition their reveals under two banners - Xbox Proximity and Xbox Beyond. The former is gonna be all the stuff in the coming 12 months, and the latter is where MS can throw in all sorts of CG trailers, partnership announcements, literal logo screens at max for shit that’s far out, like 18 months to 3-4 years away perhaps.

Seems like the only tangible surprises we get this year will be at the VGAs

Yes, totally forgot to say this and you’re right on the money on that. Only one big show a year builds up expectations and understandably so, and when they forget to communicate properly about it being GP and 12 months only…

Multiple shows a year has to be something that is in the planning, has to.

So basically you want a gamepass show and a normal Xbox E3 type of show ? Might be a thing once all of the projects in the pipeline start hitting its stride.

I wouldn’t be opposed to it.

Game Pass is huge for them, it’s their everything and that is crystal clear, so I expect that to remain the big showcase.

But on top of that I’d like them to start “aping” Nintendo Direct with having several smaller streams every year where indie and third party reveals take place too. But to me at least it seems Xbox is moving away little by little from big third party reveals. Maybe it was only this year, but I hope it won’t become “GP or go home” for them, try bother with having third party games in your show('s) even if they won’t be in GP.

The problem of having just one big show to bank on puts a ton of pressure on them and we the fans, the enthusiasts expect them to go all out. Show us why it’s so awesome to be at Xbox. And they did with lots of games, a lot of them being smaller coming to Game Pass. But there are plenty of fans who would love a look at games that are a bit farther away as well, show what we can expect. Give those 2020 announced games finally a update. It’s been nothing but complete silence.

Covering only twelve months is in no way a guarantee that all these games will come out, although we’ve only gotten mostly a vague 2022 and 2023 for most games, that’s playing it safe. So why not include games that are beyond 12 months? They did for Hellblade 2 last year and we loved it.

For me the show would have been a lot more interesting had they shown updates on Avowed, Hellblade 2, Compulsion and such things. But who even knows, maybe the sole reason for opting for only 12 months was because none of them had anything ready.

But ultimately what the show failed to do for me was (except for Starfield) have more games that visually blew me away, stuff that really shows the power of XSX. Something that in my opinion has always been a key thing for a big showcase, have several visually super impressive games shown. Since XGS can’t yet, that would be up to third parties but alas.

This sounded very obvious to me the moment the show ended, i am sure they know either Diablo, Redfall or Starfield won’t be ready in the next 12 months, but it was ready to be shown. Hellblade 2 is also ready to be shown, as we saw last year, but it would have forced them to change the show’s narrative to show a game that we saw just 6 months ago ( and it was absolutely amazing i must add)

I think FM could have much more about this if the trailer shown was more like FM7’s one, anyways many people don’t really count racing games for graphic showcases, and yes, the other big games like Coalition’s one, ID Software, Playground’s etc aren’t ready yet.

This sounds idiotic but 2020’s show was simply cursed for me, the 3rd party deals shown there either flopped (Tell me why, Gunk, The medium, Crossfire X) , or had external problems like Stalker 2.

And for first party we know what happened and is happening with Halo infinite, and for the unreleased ones, most are going through different troubles ( SoD 3, Avowed, Everwild… )

Thank god FH5 wasn’t shown there :joy:

On a serious note, and lastly, i kinda feel like this year they moved a bit from the typical Xbox enthusiast, the one that knows the names even of the project games that have no final name yet and got closer to the typical nowadays gamer, the one that focus on different online games.

And i must say that even tho i don’t like it, i gotta admit it really worked for them, this show was the most viewed and liked one, while you see on most forums people is giving it a C average, on twitter, the masses are closer to B or even A.

They also got a pressence on almost every single big casual game, even the most casual player who watched this show could see their favourite game there, like “wow League of legends is appearing here, and i got free champions now with GP, nice!”

League of Legends, Valorant, Elder Scrolls online, Sea of Thieves, Fallout 76, Overwatch 2, ARK, Minecrafts, Grounded, and soon Warzone, Diablo and Warcraft, they are simply everywhere, and sadly that has waaay more value and potential than dozens of AAA over the next years, gotta be honest there.

I think the 12 month thing was rough this year because they had announced so many games early. Once the early announced games are released, focusing on the next 12 months will come with all of the surprises and what not that people want.

What people miss isn’t knowing about games 2-3 years in advance, it’s suprised and unknowns.

the stream quality was absolute dogwater, i went back and watched separate videos and even 1080p looked significantly better lol

Maximillian was streaming on twitch while reacting to it, and he checked the bitrate was around 5000, and he said the recommended for 1080p should be at least 6000.

Right on the money there.

And something that could also be fixed with adopting a Direct format for a few times a year. Actually last year they had a seperate stream for Sea of Thieves, like that but then for updates for some games farther away. Let’s say for example next E3 they do the 12 months thing again, but then a month or two, three later they have a Direct kind of stream for updates on Hellblade 2(if it’s 2024 release), maybe announcement trailer of Tango Gameworks and so on.

Or hell, at least bring XO back. On this other forum people tell me Xbox already have multiple shows with GC and TGA. I genuinely don’t remember anything really worthwhile from Xbox during these shows for at least several years now.
