Xbox+Bethesda Showcase 2022 | Community "Watch-a-long" thread [Spoiler & Leak Free]

They are very good at choosing indies these days, that’s for sure.

Essentially now they have Sega, Capcom, KT, Bamco, Kadokawa. So only Square Enix ignores them. Would be hilarious if in order to solve this problem they will just acquire SE (I want Capcom though).

Playdead hasn’t revealed their game yet. If you’re referring to Cocoon that’s by yet another ex-developer from Playdead.

Format was good really good, the actual content was lackluster at times. It closed out great which was a huge positive saved show.

Nioh successor Starfield Redfall Persona on xbox Forza

Was my positives about the conference. I think 12 months is ok, sets realistic expections but unfortunately for xbox most of their wanted content is beyond that 12 months.

I would have liked to see contraband and avowed as well. Maybe even another hellblade demo.

The update trailers are becoming tedious

You should take all those out of shows imo, rather have smaller inside xbox type shows for that or blog post.

Exactly this. In a showcase that you only hold once a year that’s just not the right content for it. Had Xbox several streams a year it would be fine to put it in there, but they have yet to adopt that format, man I really hope they do. Only one huge show a year builds up expectations even if you try as hard as you can to not have too high expectations.

They started great with Redfall, High on Life looked great, then came Silksong, very cool to have that day one on Game Pass and I believe that’s when the Riot part started and I’m not gonna lie I couldn’t wait for that to be over, it went on for too long. And there were more games that just don’t really fit in their one and only big showcase. But they don’t have anywhere else to show them, so it had to be here.

Please start to come with more shows please, with so many studios now, way more than Sony and Nintendo they are going to have to.

Really hoping for an August release date. Can’t see September since Focus is releasing Evil West on the 20th which I hope to see more of. Also hoping to see gameplay for Warhammer: Space Marine 2.

Are we expecting game showcases for 2023 and later tomorrow? Maybe Banjo/Fable/etc?

  • No the event will only be talking about announced games
  • Yes there will be new reveals and I like eggs too

Crazy how many articles TLOU has. Though probably includes game and TV series.

We might see a dev update like with Hellblade 2 for Avowed, Fable and State of Decay

I voted no and part of me hopes im wrong.

Rule of thumb: If there would be something big like Fable or Banjo, they would tell us. Don’t see a lot of advertising for that.

Can’t wait!

Good show! Thinking about it more I think once the actiblizz acquisition has gone through they are going to have a ton of live service games that are always going to be having new updates. I think they could probably have 3 shows spread over three days all 30-45mins. One for new announcements/games coming to gamepass another for live service game updates and then another for dev talks. Probably could even spread it into a whole week of xbox news .

After sleeping on yesterday’s showcase and slightly increasing my rating, let me preface this by saying three things - first, out of the 30 games shown, only 4 of them are of any interest to me. Second, I rate showcases based on how many total games are shown and out of those games, how many of them are for me. Third, and im sure majority know this already but im not into Indie games. The vast majority of them simply don’t appeal to me whatsoever.

Rundown (in order of showing) -

  1. Redfall

Everything I saw or read about the game is definitely for me. Basically, a first person open world looter shooter. Sounds good to me. I like the vibe and aesthetic along with the fact that the main enemies are Vampires which is rare in games nowadays. Very much looking forward to Redfall and best of all, it can be played fully solo like I do in Outriders and Division 1/2.

  1. A Plague Tale: Requiem

By far, my most anticipated game of the four I have listed. Asobo are freaking amazing and Microsoft should acquire them at some point this generation. Game and world looks superb and outside of a single chapter, I loved everything in Innocence. Hoping for an August release date.

  1. Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn

This game looks much more interesting than Ashen did for me and im happy that the characters actually have faces. Looks really good and I liked the combat and overall gameplay that was shown. Looking forward to seeing more of the game in the months ahead.

  1. Diablo IV

This game has been on my list since it’s gameplay reveal. Looks excellent and as someone who enjoyed the 15 or so hours that I put into Diablo III, I decided to drop that game and just wait for the new game which looks much better and features an isometric open world. Blizzard has already confirmed that there will be cosmetic only micro-transactions which is great because I don’t care about cosmetics and that they will have major paid expansions which is fine by me.

Other tidbits -

  • Forza Motorsport looked amazing. The Ray Tracing looks great and to see reflections within reflections was so damn stunning. Turn 10 should easily retain their simulation racing crown.
  • Hideo Kojima announcement finally happened officially. Would have liked to see at least a CGI trailer of the game he’s working on for Microsoft but I guess it’s further out. Will take a wait and see approach in regards to what his game ends up being as the last Kojima game I completed was MGS 2. Kojima’s best games in my opinion were MGS 1998 and Snatcher.
  • Starfield looked good but I can see why they delayed it and to a lesser extent, Redfall. Like Elden Ring is for souls fans, this game looks to be perfect for those who are BGS/Fallout/TES fans. Personally, I have removed it from my list as it’s not for me whatsoever but im sure those who love BGS games will love Starfield as well.
  • Rest of the showcase was simply of no interest to me whatsoever.
  • Would have preferred 18 month roadmap instead of 12 and even more so, it being announced a few days before the showcase as well as the fact that it was mostly an Indie game showcase as I would have then lowered my expectations considerably.
  • Showing 95% gameplay for the entire show outside of a few games/announcements was perfect and what I have been asking for since 2020 but sadly for me, outside of the 4 games I listed above, none of the other games shown appeal to me whatsoever.

Overall: 6.0/10.

For context, 2020 showcase gave me 5 games out of 20 and 2021 showcase gave me 8 games out of 30. Both of these showcases rated higher for me than yesterday’s showcase simply because more games were of interest to me. After yesterday’s showcase, I re-watched 2020 and 2021 and have realized that since 2020, Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase is simply a Game Pass Showcase which is great for those who are all in and want nothing but day one games on game pass but simply, that’s not for me. Nothing else to say, except that I hope to see more of Redfall and Flintlock sooner rather than later.

I think i could be okay with the 12 month showing if they add say another show during the November to February months that does kind of the same thing. You can do deeper gameplay on the games coming in the 6 months following the show and show announcement trailers for those in that 6 to 12 month span.

This allows giving more time to the gaas and indies while keeping the focus on gamepass near future. Which is why I’m sure they went this direction with the show.

Now for games they want to announce earlier for hiring reasons those could be sprinkled in other shows TGA, game fest, ect. Or even on their own like indie or blizzards survival game. Which was never announced but enough given to maybe help with hiring.

Like what? We didnt get EA wasting peoples time with a non gamepass 3rd party title in BF this year. A good thing in my book.
