Probably didnt want the death threats, it’s happened Kojima before
This isn’t a switch where you only can have barely any or too much?
- Criticizing last year for too much CGI is valid.
- Criticizing this year for a lack of surprises is valid.
Shit isn’t rocket science. People want to have a mix of stuff in the shows.
Fable I didn’t expect to see this year anyway, but man did I believe Avowed was a lock. Had they communicated beforehand that this show would only be about the next twelve months we could have stopped that hype for Avowed immediately. I really wish Obsidian just had not said anything last year. It’s probably a E3 2023 thing now. TGA would be preferable though.
I didn’t Say CGI over gameplay but a just equilibrium of both.
With surprises, it ultimately depends on what people like though. Riot for me was a big announcement, while many here didn’t even bat an eye at it. Persona would have been as well, and Kojima though if they didn’t leak. The problem with showing games even as teaser well before their release date is that people will be constantly asking about them at every turn.
I know 2020 was necessary to have a roadmap for the future, and Covid didn’t make things easy, and I liked it overall. They didn’t have a choice, but right now, you see people constantly asking about Avowed, or Fable, Perfect Dark and so on, and when they are not being shown, it is immediately a cause for concern. I much prefer this format of announcing things that are coming soon, something tangible and that will become better and better as the content pipeline is getting better.
This sounds like a fair concern. I think how Microsoft messages around this will be important. Its inevitable that there will be delays. I’d argue that showing games targeted for the next 12 months is basically meaning they’re realistically showing games that will release in the next 18.
This showcase they showed a lot of gameplay and still got criticize, imagine if they show a lot of CGI and specially for their big first party games, they will get destroyed.
I’ve agree with you that they need to balance somethings in their future events.
So we again moved towards “wait for the next showcase” ![]()
I think personally the show was fine for those, whom it was directed too. Core community got something for them too but “not that type of the game” ![]()
The solution as I stated multiple times - more showcases during the year.
Kojima deal and Persona supposed to be a surprised. They just got leaked by the insiders months in advance.
Sorry I don’t care if I’m gonna look silly here but Sarah Bond served on stage
AMAZING dress, definitely better than any leather jacket and won best fit and fashion sense for the show ![]()
Seeing those get confirmed was still a surprise lol
Actually a crazy deal. I wonder how much Xbox had to pay for this.
Probably a LOT. This is a very smart for PC Game Pass.
No idea, but not cheap. It also highlights that not every deal will appeal to you, but this is potentially a massive get for their PC ambitions.
Such deals are not made in plain cash. They are very complex as not only not 120m will not suddenly move to Game Pass, it also considers the revenue from Game Pass, spending inside Riot Games games due to PC Game Pass subscriptions and so on. So it is not just “hey we paid 5b for that”
Also people moving inside PC Game Pass join Xbox ecosystem too. And potentially EA Play ecosystem…Crazy.
Will be curious to hear Game Pass numbers by the end of the year. Very aggressive move from Microsoft and much more effective for growth than “bring FF7R to the platform”
I know “how much did they pay for this” was just an easy way of saying what did it take for Riot to accept this.
Yeah, but at least it gives me hope that eventually MMO subscriptions will be integrated some way in Game Pass.
something that I think is being discounted. Xbox hardly showed any cards yesterday that we know about. They unveiled lots that we didnt know about and are quite exciting. This indicates Xbox will continue to have high tier partners and much more than we are anticipating from the leaks from insiders.
Yeah, now that I think about it - we literally haven’t seen anything that we expected from their rumored line up of the projects. We had Redfall, Starfield, Forza, Minecraft game, Ara(?)
But Riot deal was crazy and unexpected, also Wolong game was also out of nowhere.
Essentially it leaves only Square Enix out of all the publishers that does not want to deal with Xbox. We also did not get info about Ubisoft+
I would have said flat growth, but PC still has a ton of growth and deals like this can only help it grow.
Yeah and on the other side no one saw them snatching up some of the best indie devs games. Im very excited they snagged Playdeads game while they also previously announced they snagged Playdeads former founders game too. They really are grabbing all the best indie games.
That bodes well that that type of investment continues even with their massive growth in 1st party.
And working with third parties in Japan and other surprises like High on Life means great things ahead.
