I think announcing a new XGS game at TGS would be a good move to ride on the Xbox momentum in Japan.

But maybe the game by John Johannas is not the right title for it. For what I remember it was an “anti-horror” game and was not a big budget game. But I’m really curious to see what make Microsoft excited about the show, big Game Pass surprises I guess, like Ys coming to Xbox

Or Tabata coming to the stage and say “Hey, me and my team at JP. Games are making a brand new J-RPG exclusively on Xbox” like they did with Kojima

We don’t know anything about the budget for the Johanna’s game.

Odd spot for it considering it’s not a game Japan would even remotely care about. It would be an announcement for the West on an event most Westerners are not watching.

IMO A Deathloop Game Pass announcement would get more hype as a Twitter post announcement

Before concluding the interview, I wanted to see if he could comment on the possibility of Gust games hitting Xbox platforms. As someone who owns and plays on every platform, it would be great if Xbox-only players could sample the amazing Atelier series.

“If we received enough requests from fans we may be able to make that a reality,” he says.

Now, this is a usual cop-out answer from Gust. They’ve said this for other requested features they never ended up doing, and I think they said this about the possibility of their Fairy Tail 2019 game on Xbox too. I only hope MS saw this statement and is getting Gust on board too in their effort getting closer to Koei Tecmo (who went from never having games on Game Pass to being the first Japanese publisher to launch a AAA game on Game Pass)

To me Gust and System Arc are the most “loyal” PS devs in japan with their jrpg and fighting games are mostly exclusive to the platform. So no surprise here despite Xbox gaining (big) momentum worldwide including in Japan.

nothing of value was lost (to me). there are still many japanese devs who are gladly partnering with Phil to bring their games to new audiences beyond your typical switch/pc/ps combo.

Every Gust game since the Switch released has also been on Switch. They’re even making the next Fire Emblem. Not very PS loyal.

I would have liked for Xbox to get Gust on board since Xbox is getting closer to Koei, but I guess Xbox doesn’t really care for Gust games… Gust, or any other niche JP developers, probably aren’t gonna chance Xbox releases unless incentivized first by MS.
