Or maybe they’ll use a third party engine.
I don’t wish it (I’m all for in house engine) but it’s possible.

Anything is possible, but looking at studio history, they used idtech 5 for TNO and TOB, idtech 6 for TNC and Youngblood. It’s almost sure they will use idtech, I think 7 because they always followed idsoftware release of new engine: idtech 5 (rage → the new order), idtech 6 (doom 2016 → the new colossus), idtech 7 (doom eternal → indiana jones?).
Honestly, its crazy to think about but the last Uncharted/Tomb Raider game was Shadow of Tomb Raider (2018) that was made by their B team. There’s a huge void for action adventure games inspired by Indy. I think this game is going to be huge because it’s going to fill that void.
Yeah, also considering Xbox 1st party offering, last game of that genre was Quantum Break in 2016, more than a standard generation ago (8 years). I think lacking an offering in this segment is one of the major reasons why pundits in the media “don’t count” Xbox games.
I just fear that the game is 1st person due to the pedigree of the devs involved. Not saying the game will be bad, but I think the Indy IP is more adapted to a 3rd person game, unlike Wolfenstein which is more suited by legacy to 1st person.
We will see this week.
Quantum Break is one of these games that deserves to be replayed at 60fps and higher res.
It’s unfortunate Xbox and Remedy parted ways after QB, because with the new course started in 2017-2018, they would have been a perfect match for XGS. Also we would have had QB2 and not Control, which was cool, but clearly a lower budget endeavour.
If things haven’t changed it will be a mixture of both. One level is third while the other is first. Nick said this six months ago, so unless his source was way off…
Was he this specific? Cause “mixture of both” doesn’t automatically mean “one level is third while the other is first.”
Unless he specifically said that, it could mean things like 3rd person walking, climbing, running, and shooting from the hip. But it switches to 1st when you hold left trigger to aim.
And that’s just one example. It’ll be interesting to get the answer come Thursday.
It wasn’t that specific and I took it more of what you are saying during certain actions/ portions of the game would be a different camera style,
I believe he said some sections would be third, some would be first. But now I’m not sure, lol. He did say you can’t switch between views like BGS games. Yeah, Thursday is not long now.
I haven’t seen the original quote but when a game has both first & third person perspectives, from experience it works mostly like Cyberpunk or Skyrim: first person for everything, except vehicle segments (like riding the horse in Skyrim).
So the only time we’d “see” Indy literally is during vehicle or horse segments. That would be my guess.
But this could be way off, obviously.
Could also be third person while in cover and for set pieces. I can’t imagine running from a Boulder in first person and it having anywhere near the impact it would if the camera was facing behind you and you saw it coming down.
Yeah if it has cover mechanics is could be a first person game that zooms out into third person when you enter cover (or use certain equipment / vehicles) like Rainbow Six Vegas. Idk if people like that or not, but I don’t find it disorienting personally.
It would be fun if they use the running into the camera perspective from Crash, although Uncharted did that already.
I see it being mainly first person. Then perspective would change for specific situations such as boulder chasing, riding vehicles/horses, some platforming, taking cover, takedowns… It could be really original.
I have a prediction. The surprise drop at show or some days after is…”still wakes the deep”… but I’ve already talked myself out of that as it’s releasing on ps5 too.
Just it said to be released early 2024
Developer Directs, so far, have been first party. Recently they had a Partner Direct, which is where something like Still Wakes the Deep would be. As it was fully 3rd party focused.
Hi-Fi Rush was a unique game that met unique circumstances and found a suitable chance to make that shadow drop.
That will be very hard to replicate, and an added high expectation from the fans that no one wants to have.
Add to that, that it doesn’t benefit the game in the publicity/sales front. So why have all the risk and baggage?
Does that mean no surprises in the Show? No. But regular surprises like any show. A new trailer/interview for a game other than the announced four.
Even then you don’t want people to have a habit of expecting surprises that you might not be able to deliver. Remember the excellent Xbox showcase that had everything that people wanted and more, yet it disappointed some people in the end just because it didn’t have the “one last thing” format. Expectations need to be managed.
Leave shadow drops for f2p games and betas
Could we hear more about Project Mara?
The studio of course will be mostly focused on Hellblade, but they usually work on several projects, and this one is a small experimental game that looked like it already made a good progress 3 or even 4 years ago.
