Xbox announces Developer_Direct for January 18th - Indiana Jones, Avowed, Hellblade II and more

I had never heard of such a clear-cut definition before. For instance if you check the list of games published by Sony on the Playstation 1, you will find a lot from Capcom, Namco, Enix, Tecmo, and you wouldn’t consider them 1st party games. Nintendo has also published many Square Enix games on their portable consoles.

I’m talking specifically about the contemporary definition.

Agreed it gets messy when you don’t consider these games first party . I think better term Is internal studios . If we’re going this route then you can exclude a bunch of Nintendo games because a lot of their games are done by external studios . I feel as long as publisher is funding game , then its first party

Nintendo won’t because it will cannibalize sales. With the rise in pc handhelds it will pose a threat in Nintendo’s hybrid console market . If they put games on pc . Then some people will opt for a steam deck or windows handheld

Why are people talking about Sony in the D_D thread?

Ronin is an IP from Koei Tecmo, I suspect that Sony bought that game like the Korean game. Ara, Towerborne and Contraband are MS IP. Returnal was always a Sony IP.

Must be New Year Resolution. But really, let’s go back to topic.

I’m glad that they see D_D a great success that they are doing more of this as a traditional show for their studios. They have gotten so large, doing what they did back in 2022 won’t cut it. If you remember, that year only had like 2-3 shows and they weren’t even present in other shows, most notably VGA. Last year was a drastic upgrade and this year could result the same with ABK now part of the family. I can’t wait to see it grow even more.

Games from DD may come to PS /s

I don’t expect it, but I think there’s the possibility for announcing a new game at the DD. It would make sense they did not talk about it in the Xbox Wire post and it wouldn’t also be an issue if they don’t shadow drop it.

We know for sure that Double Fine is working at several unannounced games. XGS should have several other unannounced projects and I’d say even Bethesda has some (id software game for sure, but I think it’s too big of a deal for a DD), so there are plenty of possibilities.

I read someone saying theres a gap in the middle low in the art for the dd announcement so there could be room for another dev.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they have another surprise in the Direct, but at the same time, le line-up is already really great.

Yeah, I saw on X some people comparing the art images from before and after DD23 and it’s very similar to this year one, it seems it could be added another logo, like the Hifi surprise.

There could be a surprise game showing up, but it doesn’t have to be shadowdrop. Just announce it and show it off.

They should not do any more shadow drop, because people will always expect them, demand them and then it will be disappointed and the usual fud loop on the internet would begin.

Main thing is surprise.

23- HiFi Rush Shadow drop

24- Indiana Jones unexpected

25- Another surprise

Not just that a few devs have warned against them, as that was always a big Nintendo’s direct thing of available now, turns out you get a okay spike that day and then right after sales tank.

Even smaller games need a marketing cycle so if they are doing a surprise it should hear is a trailer for a game later this year

This is true. Do it again, people will see it as a norm going forward.

I expect Indiana Jones to look really good. MG is good for it, just look at Wolfenstein TNC, that game looks good!

Also very curious how Indy will look, clearly it won’t be Ford’s likeness, but neither did Emperor’s Tomb and that was fine. Same with the voice actor. Starting to really look forward to the reveal.

I am curious to see if they use idtech 7 (Doom Eternal engine) or they updated their own version of idtech 6 (they used for TNC and Youngblood), anyway all their games are top notch graphically-wise. If it looks very goos as I suspect, there will be a great hate against it, because we all know PS pundits outside and inside the media look at graphic alone mostly.

Harrison Ford face/voice would cost a ton, but I admit I’d like his (young) likeness would be great to have, but it’s not a make or break detail for the game. How it looks and how it plays are the most important things.
