And Helldivers, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade and Concord. But yeah, no big AAA singleplayer games from internal studios.
I always forget about the â2nd partyâ games. I know many donât agree with that term but I just donât count them as first party if itâs Xbox or PS.
Concord is internal but yeah.
If Towerborne and Ara count for Xbox then technically Helldivers, Rise of the Ronin etc. should count for PS.
Ah yes Firewalk was one of the many small studios during their buying spree.
I agree Towerborne and Ara should be counted the same, I just count games being developed by first party studios differently (thatâs just me).
I get you. When people talk about Sony games, they usually mean the big AAA singleplayer games from internal studios.
Ronin is made by Team Ninja, Sony only bought it, like Nioh.
You could say the same for ARA. If they publish it, they consider it 1st party in the industry. Wether they own the studio making it doesnât really matter. Theyâre footing the bill.
I donât think itâs the same, because like Nioh, I see Koei Tecmo publishing it directly on pc one year later or even less. If it was a Sony game, they would publish it. I suspect they only bought the console rights. MS did similar things in the past, like Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Itâs published by Sony though. Same as Towerborne, Ara, Contraband etc. Same as Spider-Man 1 and Returnal before those studios were acquired. Itâs still technically first party.
Itâs different this time. Nioh on PS4 was published by Koei in Japan but now Ronin is even published by Sony there too.
Sony will probably be producing all PC titles now, unlike last gen now that they are âcommittedâ to it
Death Stranding 2 for example will almost certainly be published by Sony for PC and not 505
Who the publisher is doesnât matter. The exact same organization can be third party to Sony and first party to Microsoft. If Rise of the Ronin or Helldivers 2 bomb, Sony will wash their hands in front of the stakeholders, and youâll never hear of these games again. Microsoft has a candid approach and treats all these games as if they were made by internal studios.
First party means âpublished by a first partyâ so it does matter. Insomniac themselves said that second party doesnât really exist. Itâs all first party.
I feel like this first/2nd/third party discourse always happens and never results in any agreement lol
To keep people subscribed to Gamepass they really need to have a AA/AAA release every quarter imo to keep the momentum going.
I can never interpret it in any way other than âI want these games from the other side to not countâ lol.
The more important thing is that almost every game is coming to PC. Every publisher has to maximize revenue with the rising costs of production. Xbox was ahead of the curve, but they will all eventually get there.
Sony will definitely
Iâm not convinced Nintendo ever will, at least not in the near to mid future
My basic rule is: Either own the IP or own the Studio. If any checks, itâs first party game.
Itâs just a port lol. The kind MS gives away for free
