Am i the only one that thinks capcom is an overrated Aquisition? Besides Resident Evil, the only other game franchise i play from them is dead rising. Imo they would be better buying embracer. So much fodder for gamepass
Monster Hunter, Street Fighter are the other two from Capcom that stand out for me, although they’ve also done Dead Rising and Lost Planet.
Embracer would be awful lol most of their output is low budget and low quality games
Capcom has some of the best and well known franchises in gaming from DMC, RE, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, among others
I don’t think so, even though I don’t play titles like street fighter and monster Hunter I see how popular those titles are.
I think the advantage of Capcom is that they have a lot of output in areas Xbox is weak in - fighting games, horror, third person action, visual novels. They’d cover a lot of ground for them if they were to acquire them.
Japanese games. Got your live service title with Monster Hunter and StreetFighter. Got your 3rd person over the shoulder single player games, Devil May Cry, RE2 and 4 are highly rated. Got some niche stuff like Exoprimal and Dragons Dogma.
And you have peoples arcade childhoods. Only thing missing is a JRPG.
No. I am in the same boat, except I also think that there isnt a more overrated franchise in the entirety of gaming than Resident Evil. The only franchises I’m interested in from Capcom are either new IP or dormant IP like Dead Rising and Lost Planet.
Y’all are tripping lol. Capcom is betheada east. Theyre bleeding amazing ip.
Street fighter, resident evil, monster hunter, devil may cry are all top shelf and they even come with their own mascot for team greens eventual mascot fighter in mega man
I don’t play alot of Capcom games but I’d never say they are an overrated acquisition. If I used the metric of ‘games I play’ then Activision would also be overrated.
I recognize those are popular games. They are also just by far my least favorite popular games out there. Id be more excited about acquiring Capcom in the off chance they bring back some dead IP than for any of their popular IP.
They’re just the most boring acquisition Xbox could make for my interests. Id be way more excited about aby of Konami, Koei, From Soft, Nihon Falcom, Sega, or Square.
What on earth do you play from Konami lol
The good thing about Capcom is that their fans seem to be at peace with their IPs while Sega is not the same. Sonic (games) is in the same situation as Halo, abandoned IPs (Banjo, Jet Set Radio, KI, VF etc) that can’t find a suitable studio. If MS already has a lot to improve with its own great IPs, now imagine with Sega.
Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi are actually coming back, Virtual Fighter as well. That said, I’ve kinda given up on the Sega of old. I’m still happy with what they have going on now (Yakuza, EU studios, Atlus, etc.).
Suikoden and Metal Gear
Kinda in the same class as Capcom then, right? Where they’d need to return to old IP.
Yeah, but I enjoyed those two series more than Dead Rising and Lost Planet. But yes, same concept.
It sounds like you want a JRPG acquisition
Metal Gear is a dead IP without Kojima (he is never going back to it) IMO. The only thing to do with it is remakes, and then what? Dead end IP.
MS has invested into Rabbit and Bear Studios with their Suikoden successor Eiyuden Chronicle and that’s one of my hopes for an MS grab if that game is a hit.
I was just referring to other Japanese publishers. I’d also take WB, CDPR, Ubisoft, Take 2, EA, Paradox, Devolver, Focus, Krafton, or Hasbro ahead of Capcom. Capcom just doesn’t publish anything that interests me outside of Dead Rising and Lost Planet, which are dead. I mean honestly I’d be 10 times more ecstatic for an independent studio purchase like Supergiant Games or IOI than I would for a Capcom purchase.
If a new metal gear is made for only playstation even with no kojima ps fanboys and media will praise it. if its multiplat most people will be like eh even if its good
Rabbit and Bear is one of the Japanese studios Id like to see acquired and given a nice budget and room to grow. I thought their prequel to Hundred Heroes was quite impressive for a small team that pulled it together in 2 years. There qas some fetch questing to it, but really what can you do with such a small team.
