I agree that Sony would be the more natural fit, but when Sony don’t want to or can’t acquire Square Enix, then Microsoft should absolutely step in and acquire them.

If you talk about who to acquire next i always look back at the past and Microsoft tried once before to acquire Square and failed.

I really think, that the next (publisher) target is a japanese one and i think (and hope) that it will be the one that currently struggles the most and always complains about their sales figures. (Square Enix)

I don’t know, relations between Microsoft and Square Enix seem very bad, it doesn’t seem like a good idea to me lol

I don’t believe this rumours about bad blood between MS and SE.

If MS provides the money, SE will gladly comply.

True shareholders only want money and I bet MS and SQ have bad blood because MS isn’t paying them to put games on game pass anymore having said that I still prefer Capcom they’d make a bigger splash for Xbox

I much prefer that Xbox just acquires Sega, leaves Square Enix on its own island and adds to Sega’s teams in Japan to gain additional JRPG capabilities.

They can always have Sega acquire other studios that work on jrpgs and add them to Sega as well. Get some 2d jrpg studios and maybe add a studio that wants to do a AAA JRPG funded on the Final Fantasy level.

I definitely want MS to acquire Platinum games. So much potential there with some focus. Plus when they inevitably get Sega they can re release Madworld on Gamepass. Then maybe buy Soleil with the loose change they happened to find under the couch cushions, and boom! They got the old Ninja Gaiden Devs. I loved Wanted : Dead and would love a way more polished ( but still very batshit) sequel.

Maybe take a look at Tabata’s studio for JRPGs along with Mistwalker.

Square Enix no longer releases its games on Xbox, and I don’t want Microsoft to become Square Enix’s cash cow. As I said, a good acquisition is based on good relationships and a common vision of the industry. Xbox has allies in Japan (SEGA and Capcom), they are the ones who deserve to join the Xbox family. I think it’s important to maintain a certain consistency in acquisitions. Of course the decision belongs to Microsoft and I fully understand that there is interest in Square Enix.

Capcom and Sega already release their games on Xbox, some on gamepass, I think MS is fine with that. Instead, with Square Enix not releasing their games on Xbox, I can see why MS would buy them

I love Ubisoft but with Ubisoft+ including day one games (hehehe), I don’t need/want Microsoft to acquire them anymore because the main reason for me is now gone. lol

Regulators aren’t an issue for MS realistically stopping acquisitions if they don’t actually stifle competition or hurt consumers.
