Anyone saying no to platinum doesn’t get it. It’s about having a diverse line up. Not just gaining market share. Platinum will help cover up the 3rd person hack and slash games Xbox is lacking as well as Japanese stuff.
I have a friend who won’t get an Xbox due to a lack of Japanese stuff, he was even more annoyed when Sony closed down their first party Japanese studios.
I have always thought Platinum would be a good start in Japan. Not game changing or market altering, but a good foothold for Japanese style action games. I believe Platnum could be grown to maybe a 3 team studio over the years and could possibly grow an RPG team if funded and allowed. Then, If they do get Sega later, Sega owns several of the IP that Platinum is famous for and Platinum could be moved to under the Sega Arm.
And they are. However, Platinum has expressed interest in having Microsoft acquire them. I don’t think they can help the JRPG skipping. I’d rather they built their own catalog than depend on others. Blue Dragon was really good and in time might have stepped in the place of Dragon quest for Xbox. It seems Mist Walker head recently talked about a new dark fantasy rpg he’s working on. I would imagine someone big is funding it. Getting platinum would encourage others to go Xbox and let’s not forget they still working with Kojima.
Platinum would be an excellent get for MS if they went after them. They would have another Capcom Clover studios alumni in Kamiya much like they did with Tango and Mikami.
I look at how Hi Fi Rush got the attention of big Youtubers who don’t usually fuck with Xbox like that these days. (Kinda like Killer Instinct) they need more games like that where big Youtubers like Maximillion is streaming the game and loving every minute of it. Bringing more positive attention to an xbox exclusive.
I still wish MS would get Konami and Platinum in a room and fund MGS Rising Revengeance Sequel. That the kind a shit that gets a huge pop from the fans.
Do they have much of a following for any Japanese content? Unless we are talking things that are very westernized like Resident Evil and Street Fighter then I’d day no.
They have to build that content and following somehow. They only have a 4% market share in Japan so any purchases there are unlikely to have much Xbox fanbase today.
My point was it seem hopeless. 4% Japan gaming market share, the big acquisition that do matter like for example Capcom, Sega etc… are probably will stay multiplatform like ABK is.
I don’t see Japan gamers switching when they can just play on their current system of choice right now Switch, PlayStation.
I don’t think anyone exoects Japanese gamers to switch. Most of the people that want Japanese studios want them because they enjoy playing Japanese games and the library could use that diversity, even in the west.
The fanbase will go where the games go. The notion that they wouldn’t purchase a console for a series they’re interested in that isn’t on their platform of choice is ludicrous to me. Then you factor in that you don’t even need an xbox to play the games when you have a PC and even more important for Japan , a phone.
The whole point of Japanese Dev’s and Pub’s acquisition is to grow Xbox Japan gaming market share right? It’s only a tiny 4% now. The whole point is to grow it. I don’t see it doing any growing staying multiplatform, it the simple truth. That is why i said it was a lost cause.
So because a company is not doing very well in a specific sector they should just give up, even if it’s their industry’s 3rd biggest market (technically 2nd if you exclude China)?
It’s amazing that even on this forum there are those who think that no matter what steps Xbox takes, gamers currently not in their ecosystem will never find Xbox offerings enticing enough to try it out.
