Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

I just basically asked it based on xbox’s Aquisition history how many Aquisitions do you see them having by 2030. That’s it, no data besides its thought process

I think the best thing for Ubisoft is to have half or more of their workforce working as support studios, that way they can contract them out to help other studios while focusing on a few IPs. Microsoft could contract Ubisoft to help some of their studios like 343 for example.

That doesn’t mean they gonna sell their big ips like that comeon those ips make ubisoft lucrative to buy otherwise nobody gonna buy em

Chatgpt had some wild asperations when I asked it for a strategy for Xbox expanding into Japan. It started out great suggesting purchasing multiple unique and creative independent studios and then a larger publisher. Then I asked it what those studios would bring to Xbox and it started talking about how the studios and publisher can combine their unique talents with the strength of the publisher to create a unique first person shooter that captures the Japanese market and I was like “…”

Keep in mind… When i talked to it, it said its data ends 2021 before so it didn’t have recent news to go off of

This is more of a joke post, but if MS buys Epic they get Harmonix the studio that made those games.

As for who really could do it, if MS is willing to hire many of the former members who made Guitar hero I could see something like that working out.

Yes, I was saying that in the context of an acquisition (ideally by Microsoft). By remaining independent, I doubt that things will improve for Ubisoft. From my point of view, the bad management started with the excessive development of AC and FC games, and with the multiplication of GAAS projects which were failures. I think Ubisoft is financially trapped in this situation. We see it with the multiple cancellations of projects and the announcement today of 4 new AC games in development. Ubisoft is unable to get out of this situation on its own. They are condemned to repeat the same mistakes until the company collapses on itself. Horrific decisions have been made over the past few years, and Guillemot is largely responsible for the state of Ubisoft today. I think something positive could be done under Microsoft, with financial support, new management, creative freedom (let AC and FC breathe a little), transfer of part of the employees (1/4) to ABK (or other Microsoft studios if need be), but the reality is that all of that probably won’t happen. I doubt Microsoft will go into Ubisoft after ABK, and you’re right, parts of the business might be sold, people might be fired, or Ubisoft might just disappear. I have no idea what will become of Ubisoft, and it’s quite sad because it’s a publisher that I really liked a few years ago. It would annoy me a bit if it were dismantled like a THQ. I had thought about a merger with Embracer, but seeing the quality of their latest games, I don’t think that would help things. Finally, I will close the Ubisoft parenthesis, I think there is a lot of potential and great things to do by acquiring this publisher, unfortunately there is little chance of that happening and fate seems tragic for Ubisoft.

Speaking of which (and since people are on the subject of Ubisoft), IF Ubisoft were to sell any individual studios or get split up some day - they do have multiple studios that could potentially handle Guitar Hero. Ubisoft San Francisco (who makes Rocksmith, and also made the latest South Park RPG weirdly), Ubisoft Leamington (made DJ Hero/Guitar Hero Live before being sold by Activision to Ubisoft) or Ubisoft Paris (who makes the Just Dance games, bit of a stretch but they are rhythm games soo maybe?).

What game does platinum make that is a must buy???

Seriously, Platinum won’t make a difference lol.

I am not a fan of Platinum but even I know Bayonetta and NieR have big fan followings.

To me it’s the potential in Platinum. Look at Tango how they dropped one of the best games this generation so far in Hi-Fi- Rush. I think Platinum can go places with a big corporation behind them and if they don’t have to try to develop so many games at the same time.

If Xbox manages to buy a japanese dev/pub, it would be interesting to see folks reaction to it.

It’s just about having a diverse platform. Hi fi Rush isn’t a must buy but was still a good release that brought interest to the platform.

No single acquisition needs to turn the tides.

one side will rejoice nd other side will be fun to watch lol

thats true but that wont turn majority of people to go for your console or ecosystem

I would think the cloud will be more their thing. It might not boost consoles much, but it would boost Gamepass in that region.

still man they dont invest too much on jrpgs exclusives cloud thing doesnt mean gamepass will get too much subscribers.

All acquisitions do not necessarily need to be a game-changer. I think it’s important to create a solid base, with big acquisitions (publishers, big studios with IP) to attract players, but it’s also very interesting to acquire small talented studios capable of bringing content and diversity at Xbox (and also to see them grow with Microsoft). Studios like Asobo and Certain Affinity have no IP, but we are all aware of the talent they represent and the potential they would have under Xbox. Personally, I would be very happy to see the family grow with this kind of studios after ABK (and before the next big acquisition). Studios like Stoic, Int./Night, Oxide Games, Iron Galaxy, Squanch Games, Brass Lion, Double Eleven, BlackBird Interactive… or Arc System, CC2, Platinum Games, NIS, Mediavison… in Asia, can bring lots of diversity to Xbox games. You can also pick some big studios among IOI, Crytek, PCF, Remedy, Techland, Avalanche, Dontnod… and you get a very interesting and refreshing list for Xbox. While I like big game-changing acquisitions (and want to see SEGA or Capcom happen), I would be very happy to see a series of smaller acquisitions after ABK.

Well internet structure in Japan is effective and since most gamers there enjoy handheld gaming on mobile cloud would be great for them. Also, Microsoft seems to be getting ready to launch their own app store for mobile. All in all, it isn’t just Japan but the 3billion plus gamers.
