Japanese games are not only played in Japan
Dude get out here if you think they buy a Japanese dev and or pub don’t have some content exclusive at all
I know but, if Xbox want to actually buy a Japanese Pub and actually make exclusive content their Japan Market share need to be above 25% for that to even be a possibility. Right now it just to low for any Pub to want to go full exclusive and lose sales from the other 96%.
Just make it exclusively not on Playstation, that would cover most of the market anyways ![]()
If it were only that easy lol.
Oh yeah, I think a big publisher acquisition would likely come with a lot of cross platform stuff, likely with some exclusives mixed in.
I think any publisher acquisition from here on us about Game Pass content, not necessarily exclusives.
They would own the company, its not up to the market.
Microsoft and Paradox Interactive will once again collaborate together. Paradox Interactive’s future show will be presented by Xbox on March 6, 2023. It’s a long-standing relationship between Paradox Interactive and Microsoft, which brings me to the following question: what would you think of an acquisition of Paradox Interactive?
Paradox Interactive would be a good way to boost Microsoft’s position on PC, and more and more of these games are now ported to console. I also think Paradox Interactive would be a good opportunity to bring FASA back to Microsoft, remember, Microsoft owns the rights to Shadow Run, BattleTech, MechWarrior, and Crimson Skies, but most of those IPs are currently leased to other publishers . Paradox Interactive is also interesting because it owns the World of Darkness IP, and I would be very happy to see Obsidian develop a series of games in this universe.
Regarding the mixed points, I would say that Paradox Interactive becomes less interesting if Microsoft decides to acquire SEGA. With SEGA, Microsoft would already take a good share of the PC market. So unless Microsoft wants to invest heavily in this market, Paradox Interactive wouldn’t really be a priority. Same thing for FASA, Microsoft can very well entrust Shadow Run to Inxile, Crimson Skies to Asobo, and MechWarrior to Creative Assembly.
Finally, I think that Microsoft must invest in the PC market to maintain and increase the good results of GP on PC. I think Paradox Interactive would be a good opportunity to do that, but less interesting than SEGA. I can see an option where Microsoft wants to become a major player in PC gaming again and decides to acquire these two publishers (who produce different games). Overall I think these are great games for a service like GP on PC because they are cheap to produce and last for many years bringing in money with lots of DLC.
And you what do you think ? Do you see Paradox Interactive joining the Xbox family? And what do you think of investing in the PC market? Are you interested in porting these types of console games?
If the content is already making it’s way to Game Pass and it doesn’t bolster them in the console market I don’t see much of a benefit to an acquisition.
Agreed. Also, given their relationship, it wouldn’t surprise me if Xbox and Paradox had the talk about potential acquisition in a “hey if you are ever approached or want to sell, let us know” sort of way.
Yes, I think you are right. Honestly, I don’t think Paradox would appeal to many console gamers, and even on PC it must be a niche market. I think it is necessary to invest in the growth of the PC market, but as you say, if it is an acquisition, it must also (ideally) have repercussions on the console market. I think SEGA remains the best candidate in this regard. Paradox is interesting for GP partnerships, but not necessarily for an acquisition.
On the other hand while I don’t think they’ll ever be huge (although they are rumoured to be working on a game in the same style of The Sims which could have the potential to really take off with a wider audience) they do consistently put out a great range of games with high replay value that would fit the push for PC gamepass. Not only that but their current model of heavily supporting each game with updates, expansions and cosmetic content could fit well with game pass - make the expansions part of the subscription, continue selling cosmetic content and you’ve got regular content additions to keep people subscribed while still making DLC revenue on top of that.
their games really do good on PC tho
Just got to get use to it, any acquisition aquistion attempt by Microsoft of a publisher with a huge IP following will be meant by concessions such 10 year deals ( could be shorter), but it’s still worth a shot to if you can get away without giving any remedies up.
also if you are buying a publisher, not only the launched games will come to gamepass, the next releases automatically will come to gamepass, helpful to bring gamers to ecosystem
It’s weird to me. Some act like having to buy an xbox for some games you’d like to play is absolutely taboo and unthinkable! Crazy going from the 360 gen to this.
Tell that to CMA, FTC, EU. It seem it not up to Xbox.
Huh? Microsoft already bought a Japanese developer and made their content exclusive. Maybe Japan matters for niche nonsense Jockey Warrior Ex Plus Alpha…dont mean shit for Resident Evil and Street Fighter. Does better in the west.
That Japanese Dev was already under Bethesda Softworks, A US company. Does not really count as buying a Japanese dev. Tango came with Zenimax.
True, but its based in Tokyo and most of its workforce is japanese. They bought a japanese developer, just not specifically… Like you said, it came in a package.
