If Platinum is going to be bought it’s either going to be by Nintendo or Tencent
Any japanese studio would be ok
Why not Microsoft.
They are expecting an offer after abk.
Away for a month+ and I come back to the usual Platinum begging and Sega dismissals (was funny to see revenue comparisons to Capcom when Sega pulls in more money… seriously people, do some damn research). Some people could use a reminder that just because you don’t like a dev/pub does not mean they’re not successful or a great target - Sega’s had consistent sellers across a variety of genres (some of which are in genres the zeitgeist pretend belong solely to other entities).
Really glad to see you back !
Thanks amigo, still pretty limited - the cross-country move and new job have been a lot
Welcome back!! I was thinking I hadn’t seen you around in a while.
Welcome back Daniel. Hope you had a good one mate.
I for one refuse to do research. I subscribe to the school of ‘trust me bro’ #echochamber
I’m just taking in the fact that Tencent has invested money into Platinum and Nintendo has had a long working relationship with Platinum. So if Platinum starts looking for a buyer which they are currently not doing I’m expecting they would approach one of those two first probably Nintendo first, and considering Nintendo seems to be more open or acquiring studios see Next Level Games I think they would buy them
I wonder if Microsoft are in talks with them since they have been saying a lot about “mobile gaming is the future” and so.
Is Angry Birds still relevant. I’m not saying that wouldn’t be a great asset, im just curious how it compares to 2012 when it was at its peak.
Playtika have tried to acquire them twice recently so I suspect it is them.
Rovio would be an excellent acquisition for the mobile part in addition to King. Angry Birds is a very interesting IP. This kind of mobile studio (independent, inexpensive, and with a big IP) seems quite rare. It could be a good strategy to develop further in this business.
Given the recent words from Bobby and Satya, and how they frame the gaming industry as a “battle” between western and eastern companies, I am starting to doubt Microsoft will ever acquire a japanese dev.
I’ve always been on the train that they aren’t getting any JP publishers, besides that that none of them are struggling there is also just the headache of “disassembling” the non-gaming sectors of them. The single one that doesn’t really have those, Capcom, is extremely flourishing, has no reason to sell unless MS comes with a ridiculous offer.
However I think they can absolutely do more with JP content without acquiring publishers, and also I think smaller studios are still very much on the table.
Rovio would make perfect sense for Microsoft. It might not be the best for Xbox, but it would be another character that could be added to the future kart racer or fighter, with Angry Birds.
They already have; Tango Gameworks.
They are just trying to close the deal atm and point out how the east can have extremely protective government and markets while the west is allowing a foreign company to dominate the market.
Pending the current acquisition results I’m still very keen on MS acquiring CDPR.
That will be my contribution to this thread this month
Phil playing the Japanese Dynasty in AoE2. Japanese acquisition confirmed.
