Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Did Phil stop playing Destiny 2 after Sony bought Bungie? i don’t see phil Playing Destiny anymore lol

I think by now everyone knows I hope that happens. It just makes so much sense, because you get the Witcher Remake, Witcher 4, Cyberpunk 2078, new series and the rumored remake of the original Cyberpunk game. Plus another developer with RPG experience is a plus too.

I continue to want Microsoft to buy CDPR

Just because I’m an ass I’m going to continue to say Xbox need some of those big cinematic action/adventure games so I’m going to continue to root for Crystal Dynamics and Eidos (from Embracer). If they can get IOI too and reunite the family that would be awesome.

Then Ubisoft for the more casual open world games and lastly SEGA because SEGAAAA…

Yeah, I was surprised they didn’t acquire these studios (I assume because the Activision acquisition deal is still going through) but Crystal Dynamics and Eidos as well as the IPs would be a really good get for Xbox and like you said IOI would make it complete.

I wonder if they’ll still be able to get Ubisoft and/or SEGA, I assume a lot depends on the Activision deal right now. If it somehow doesn’t go through I could see Microsoft acquiring both or any other studio. Take-Two could be a good option too but I could see it being similar to the Activision deal, GTA is pretty huge like COD.

I can only imagine it was because of ABK. With Crystal Dynamics working on Perfect Dark and Eidos working on Fable it makes so much sense. Then you have some of the history for example Xbox using Lara Croft in their GamePass advertising, alongside Halo & Gears.

I hope they can still get SEGA, I think Ubisoft is unlikely after ABK (assuming it does close).

If ABK fails I think Take-Two would likely fail for the same reasons (replace COD with GTA).

I totally agree with you. CDPR is the unique opportunity to get one of the best development studio and amazing IP. Beyond games, GOG Galaxy would be an interesting acquisition that could easily replace the Xbox app and Windows Store games marketplace.

You’re right to call for more of these cinematic action/adventure games. I think there are several studios which are still independent and which would be able to remedy this. So hopefully that will be in Microsoft’s plans for the future. Same thing for fighting games (Iron Galaxy would be a good starting point) and for platformers or E-rated games (ABK is a starting point but it’s not enough in my opinion, it’s really a content that I find important and sorely lacking on Xbox).

Regarding Ubisoft, it unfortunately seems off the table. Regulators consider AC a major industry IP and their subscription service (Ubisoft+) would likely be considered problematic.

But SEGA is still a realistic (and hopefully) acquisiton after ABK. It would be an excellent starting point in Japan (if we put aside Tango which is much smaller), which can be completed with a few independent studios (Arc Sys, CC2, Media Vision, NIS, Platinum Games, Art Play… ) that would allow Microsoft to have very strong and diverse Japanese content.

I think a second Japanese publisher could also create great synergy with SEGA, although I don’t particularly expect that to happen (a Japanese publisher would already be great). Of course, you heard the best: Capcom. But I think a Namco (separate from Bandai which would keep publishing manga games under license) would complement SEGA quite well. Same thing for Koei Tecmo, although I’m not a big fan, it’s a publisher that can make quite a variety of games, so I think it might be able to do some interesting things.

It’s not necessarily things that will happen, but it shows that it is still possible to develop in many ways in Japan. But from my perspective, SEGA is a pretty logical place to start.

Unfortunately authority reports place AC as a major industry license, and then you have Ubisoft+ which could be used against Microsoft.

when it comes AC its not comparable with COD tho ABK is getting this much flak cuz its a 70 billion dollar acquisition one of the biggest acquisition regulators gonna be regulators tho

Yep, the only game series I can think of that compares with COD is GTA. Ubisoft should be fine for acquiring. Speaking of which I wonder how much it would cost to acquire Ubisoft, I know they aren’t doing that great at the moment.

Probably around 6 billion. Have to overpay a little. Also have to buy out Tencent share of Ubisoft ownership too.

current market cap is around 3 billion maybe 5 to 6 billion at most if anyone buys them but the problem is how to manage those employees

Yet this is what is stated in the regulators’ reports, and Ubisoft’s position was confirmed by Microsoft in its response. I’m not saying it’s logical, I find it stupid myself (I also wanted Microsoft to buy Ubisoft), but it’s the information we have at the moment that leads us to think that acquiring Ubisoft might not be so easy. It’s not COD, but the AC saga has sold over 200 million copies in 15 years and is considered one of the most important franchises in the industry (AC is also in the recent list games that motivated PS gamers to buy a PS console). Maybe Microsoft could go through with concessions (cross-platform AC), but as I said in my last post, Ubisoft+ would likely be used against Microsoft to prevent the takeover. It’s just theory, but the fact that Microsoft endorsed the regulators’ report (and Ubisoft’s illogical position in the industry) makes me think it wants to keep regulators’ attention on the West, to then move its pawns to Asia with a big buyout. Beyond this analysis, I would be very happy with the acquisition of Ubisoft (I have already said several times that it would be one of the most interesting acquisitions to make for Xbox and the GP), and I have already shared my theory on the transaction with Tenent which would only serve to buy time before a takeover (by Microsoft or by another publisher, even if with this theory Microsoft made more sense to me) in 2024. Anyway, I think that if Microsoft wants to acquire Ubisoft, there will necessarily be a new battle with regulators and Sony. And I think this battle will be much longer and more tiring than acquiring SEGA or even Capcom. Personally, I don’t think Microsoft will engage in this battle, and it seems obvious to me that Asia is the next step (from their statements and the current situation). But yeah, if you want my opinion, it breaks my heart that Microsoft doesn’t grab Ubisoft for 3 billion lol

we will see when it happens but i just feel regulators r more worried about cloud aspect of things more than anything its not like MS is gonna have monopoly but even if microsoft have to give concession for ubi they can go for it afterall they want more content for gamepass more than anything

700 million net profit for a mobile gaming focused developer . Think this could be potentially a target for MS.
