Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

I am not sure about nintendo, remember rare? Silicon knights? Alpha dream? No matter how much you have worked with them, they could easily forget about your existence

This. I also believe Platinum fits the mold of a talented dev that needs resources to flourish plus it’s a studio where it and Xbox could gain a lot from each other in terms of learning.

Nintendo was historically extremely conservative with acquisitions, although they did purchase Next Level Games after the huge success of Luigi’s Mansion 3.

I think the question for Nintendo is not so much whether they like PG as a company, but more whether they have faith in them to create games successful enough to warrant owning them outright. Astral Chain sold ~1.3 million copies, which was probably profitable but is hardly on the same scale of hit Nintendo would like to get. I think if Bayo 3 does big numbers they’ll seriously consider investments.

Regarding the Microsoft angle, I think it would be logical for MS to fund a game with them, and there are less consistent purchases Microsoft has made, but it’s probably “fine” to just use them as a partner for a while too. If they did buy them, I wouldn’t say it was a bad move, but I also wouldn’t rank it as a top priority for people to bring in house.

If projects that are taken “to keep the lights on” are garbage-tier, I’d argue that it does not make them an overall top-tier developer and says a lot about the studio…. You can hand-waive all you want, but games like Babylon’s Fall were still wholly developed by Platinum.

It’s fine if you like Platinum, but the amount of excuse-making and stanning for their failed/poor projects is just weird…

I mean, every developer has passed through that, sure it has been dissapointing with their latest releases(especially babylon fall) but like sydle said, its a studio that needs resources to flourish

Most developers had made half baked titles just to keep their studios alive, and no offense to the fans of crytek but they have done nothing to prove that they can still make fantastic games, hunt showdown is the only thing they had made for years and they finally are going to make crysis 4 which I wonder how it is going to be

And I understand your point, people get tired from excuses but that shouldnt quit the value of the studio, like I have said several times compulsion games is a great example of a developer with potential but without resources, and I hope xbox will continue searching for studios like that

Rare and Silicon happened during an era of transition for Nintendo and it was the GameCube era I don’t think It would be very wise to spend millions of dollars for a few studios when profits are on a major downside and game dev costs are going up. Alpha dream was its own fault the studio failed to keep up with the changing dev landscape forcing them to out source more and more to Vanpool and Arzest to get their games made. Nintendo looks for technology along side talent plus they still have paper Mario so not that big of a deal to lose on Mario rpg series

Which studios can make action adventure games.

If you mean like the ones made by playstation, then there is thats no moon that has several developers from naughty, there is also gravity well ehich has a ton of developers from respawn that worked on jedi fallen order, but I thing they will continue with fps like titan fall

Really wish Xbox would talk to these 2 and tell them to start a new studio on xbox’s dime. The Arkham games are some of the best games I’ve played.

I need to look around and see the reasoning behind their leave. I know they posted their goodbye so I’ll start there.

I love Rocksteady’s games, but their work culture has been heavily scrutinized over the years and makes me concerned about any potential acquisition, especially when we don’t have a full idea of who is causing the issue or not resolving it.

And it’s not like Rocksteady is the only one at WB that’s received criticism over workplace issues, but I’d say they’ve been the most prominent.

The only possible acquisition I find myself caring about atm is CDPR. Really hope Phill&Co snap them up if the opportunity is there.

I honestly haven’t heard anything about Rockstar from that perspective, but good to know, thank you. I was mostly thinking from a games perspective Xbox doesn’t have a studio that specializes in games like Arkham, they would be quite the asset, and I’m sure Microsoft would do their due diligence if they were to work with them in the capacity I was suggesting.

I agree CDPR would be a fantastic add, also would like to see Xbox acquire a remake studio for titles like blue dragon, lost odessy and kameo, the question would be who would be best for this?

Isnt gonna happen but I want to see xbox bringing vicarious back to actuvision, they where the perfect team for remakes

Absolutely MS would put their due diligence in, I just get concerned that Phil and co already have their hands full brining ABK on board.

Unfortunately, Rocksteady has had sexual harassment allegations that keep popping up over the years (and other toxic behaviors), TT Games had their whole crunch and toxic workplace stuff, and years ago even NetherRealm was rumored to have some really problematic stuff when it came to “researching for fatalities” iirc (this one was quite a while ago so I’m a little foggy on the details).

It is nice to see all the CDPR love and I just hope Phil loves them as much as we do in this topic. If so then there is a great chance we’ll see them under MS.

I feel like Beenox could potentially fill this role

Maybe, but I prefer them with toys for bob taking the spyro and crash games
