Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

“Bioshock is very unique, I’d say it’s more of a Horror/Thriller FPS.”

Bioshock takes heavy inspiration from System Shock.

Wouldnt they own a lot of Kadokawa if that happened?

Get Asobo Get Crystal Get Edios get Bandai capcom or sega, Call it a day. Work on making the studios they have great and then money hat a few well known games a year

It would allow between all the studios a steady flow for gamepass and to me I can’t see how sony can compete.

Bandai owns a little thing called Gundam which is… The 16th most valuable franchise of all time (CoD is #17 btw). And that’s barely because of the Gundam video games (they don’t sell that much). Bandai is very expensive and it’s not because of the gaming department. Basically, Bandai has never been on the table.

I hope not, it also means they suddenly have imported a shitload of fanboys… and not the fun SEGA kind.

No the basement dwelling hikokomori kind, that will start harassment campaigns about the size of the titties on a Gundam model… completely forgetting that Gundam started as a gritty realistic space opera about war… not titties.

Get the Dolphin loving SEGA fanboys, we are more than willing to talk to you about hedgehogs and how blue skies are soooo much better than “grey realistic gritty brown and cold blue filtered games”. Plus we’ll hug it out with you if you need to…

Joking about, but I really do worry about fanboys in these purchases lately. Ever since the latest MS acquisitions they have become insufferable in their harassment campaigns and Sony seems to be rewarding the behavior :frowning: .

Damn, chinese companies really lost a lot market share. Will invest heavily in the west I guess.

Wait really? What happens? I thought they are doing well like mobile games

And you guys… I was joking about that I know Microsoft won’t acquire Bamco Namco unless they could sell one of their studios. I’m not a big fan of Gundam series but I’m a big fan of Tales series.

I’ve got an interesting question about any Japanese publisher that MS acquires.

How “isolated” would they become from the other JP publishers? All the JP publishers do a lot of crossover and even “dual-development” stuff with each other. For example, Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher just released a couple days ago on Switch. It’s a Koei Tecmo x Bandai Namco joint project. It’s also selling VERY well in Japan but is pretty irrelevant in the West (it did get a digital only release).

Let’s say, MS acquired Koei Tecmo. Would projects like that still be possible? I really doubt Bandai would want it to be exclusive to Xbox. Would they still be able to A. work together, and B. release it on Switch?

There’s games like Project X Zone (Capcom + Bandai + Sega + Nintendo crossover game), Street Fighter x Tekken (Capcom + Bandai), very recently, Final Fantasy Origin (Square Enix + Koei Tecmo), Dragon Quest Builders and Heroes was also Koei Tecmo x Square Enix.

Basically, what I’m asking is, would whatever JP publisher MS gets be “allowed” to continue participating in cross-development projects like this, even though they won’t be exclusive to Xbox, or would they become more Xbox “isolated”? Another tricky thing is that the outside publisher(s) might not want these projects on Game Pass day 1 (or would want a hefty pay for it) even though the publisher MS bought was involved.

I imagine Xbox would be fine with stuff releasing on switch tbh.

I think as long as it’s Game Pass day 1, Microsoft won’t have an issue with releasing games on the switch, that were co-developed.

But I don’t see MS paying beyond what they feel is fair, and if the co publisher is unwilling to have it on game pass ever, then yeah that project may not happen.

I am sure this is getting old with every post but lately a friend of mine decided to show me the good synergy between cdpr and xbox, and I think that maybe ms will be interested in making an offer after abk or who knows, I was seeing this video about michael pondsmith and it was a surprise for me to hear that he worked on xbox in the past, he contributed to most of the lineup of original xbox exclusives) imagine what type of things he could do now with the full support of the new xbox

An acquisition that would be of more significance than the ABK deal would be Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD). If Microsoft were to acquire WBD, it would directly compete with Sony and Amazon regarding movies, music, and video games. People forget that WBD has a larger movie and music catalog than sony. Sony would be more terrified of Microsoft acquiring the whole of WBD. WBD could give Microsoft the desired push in mobile and streaming than the ABK deal. The reason WBD isn’t dominant is because of mismanagement by execs. The only problem is no one is allowed to purchase WBD until after April 2024.

It’d be interesting to see Microsoft persue multimedia but WBD seems to be in a sharp decline and another year and a half isn’t going to help it. Now declining market value and general prospects does make it a much more likely they’d want to sell up, but you’d need someone who knew the industry to right that ship and I don’t know if Microsoft is necessarily the one to do that. Still though, plenty of advantages to WBD all the same.

Great time for Microsoft to push the app store as Brad discussed.

Althought I dont think they are going to buy a chinese company (whole box to unpack, especially with Xi’s news) they probably look at mobile gaming for their next big acquisition since mobile is growing the fastest.

Maybe Nexon, netmarble, cygames, or square enix (lol) as potential targets.

I 100% agree, I have been watching them for some time now, and can’t wait for black myth wukong, plus it lines up nicely with a territory they don’t have much presence in

My first guess was they’re looking for game pass deals.

True. Something like Naraka etc.

Bayonetta scoring near perfect scores. As said before Platinum is a top tier dev they just have to work on stuff they don’t want to in order to keep the lights on.

They should be a target for acquisition. I am sure Nintendo probably has their eyes on them.
