Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

I’m not sure, 13 billion would be way too much for Capcom. I hope they target Krafton.

13b would include the potential bidding war. Not to mention nobody stated that the publisher’s price is 13b. It could be less.

I really hope you are wrong, and it is some obscure company nobody ever heard of.

feels like CDPR is kinda setting itself up to be acquired, with how it’s doing it’s casually just dropping it’s roadmap for the next decade.

I thought as well, as Nick said and other’s it just sucks that Microsoft is tied up due to ABK.

A Destiny clone in the COD universe or a brand new game? All these new projects seem very interesting, but they will have to hire staff to carry them out.

Thank you ! I think there are a whole bunch of very interesting acquisition scenarios, and it’s a pleasure to discuss them with all of you. I don’t think there are any bad acquisitions, and discussing the potential of each allows us to think about what these studios or publishers could become.

I might consider acquiring niche studios like NIS and Falcom if Microsoft had difficulty acquiring bigger names in Japan, but in my scenario Microsoft would already own Yakuza, Persona, SMT, Monster Hunter, Dragon’s Dogma. You also have CyberConnect2 which has experience in JRPG with Fuga or the FF7 project (cancelled), and Level-5 is also capable of making great games of this genre.

Yes I totally agree.

Yes, this is clearly the best thing to do. SEGA is a longtime partner and Capcom would bring a whole new audience to Microsoft. Both publishers have excellent reputations in Japan and could clearly help Xbox grow a little more there (and a lot more around the world).

Japan seems to be a very interesting for Microsoft, especially since there are not many accessible publishers left in the West. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone was looking to take over Capcom in the years to come, so securing them wouldn’t be silly. Of course, Capcom (or any publisher) must agree to sell, which can make things complicated. I don’t particularly like Koei Tecmo, but I think it could have a good synergy with SEGA. It could also be a possible choice (but much less attractive) if Microsoft fails to obtain Capcom.

But anyway, I think we’re all in favor of bringing SEGA back into the family, and we’d all be happy if that happened (even if it were to be the only Japanese publisher acquired). For the rest, we will see the opportunities that present themselves. But I think Microsoft really needs to do something big in Japan, and SEGA might not be big enough for the general public.

This is our wish, not a prediction. Nobody knows what will happen. No one expected Microsoft to buy a publisher. After Bethesda, everyone said it was over, there would be no more publishers, and Microsoft wouldn’t buy a public company. Let life surprise us. Of course, it depends on a whole bunch of factors, but who knows what’s going on behind the scenes?

We could have a SEGA vs Capcom fighting game!!!

I agree with you. I think SEGA is betting heavily on Hyenas (maybe Sonic also) and his supergame project. It could be a determining factor for the future of the company.

Indeed, CDPR would be an excellent acquisition, but I doubt they are on the table.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony put in a lot of money and got cd project red. They are lacking in wrpgs and it would be a huge get

CDPR make more sense for Sony then MS but if they were to be bought I imagine they’d ask for similar conditions to Bungie

I wouldn’t expect any of their games to go exclusive, could also see Tencent being very interested with them wanting to buy in Europe

I’ve thought for a while Tencent would be especially interested in CDPR if that Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer was still on the table.

Meh…even engaged in ABK Microsoft will tell anyone “Talk to us, we’ll make you a better offer when its convenient”…what’s a few more months of waiting for hundreds of millions of dollars?

Thank you, I’ve been saying for a long time CDPR should be who MS goes after and with the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix, there has been an uptick of people playing Cyberpunk 2077, so if MS was to help them Cyberpunk 2078 could be awesome.

Plus can you imagine if the third IP CDPR is working on is Shadowrun, that they licensed from MS, then MS would have to buy them.

Also getting CDPR gives MS a door to the Polish game market, which also would be great.

Another benefit it gives the other RPG developers like Bethesda or Obsidian more time to work on their own RPGs and not feel like they have to rush theirs out sooner.

So there definitely is many reasons why MS should and needs to buy them.

I am not sure if it is going to be a new ip or not, btw I dont know if the guy its believable, is the first time I have heard of him, and it seems like infinity ward isnt going to be the developer for it x.com

Now that you mention it, I remember that the guys at obsidian are fans of cdpr, remember that joke of cyberpunkk in the grounded trailer? Hilarious

It would be insane to see both working on a project together

Yep I’m sure all the shareholders will refuse any deal they’re offered, especially if it could result in them earning millions in profit due a ‘verbal promise note’ from MS.

All it takes is a phone call.

Ah yes makes total sense…

Publisher: Our board has received an offer and all our shareholders want to take it as they will all be making 45% profit - guaranteed!

MS: Please wait, we can offer 50%, we don’t know when, maybe 6-12 months? Assuming we still can offer that much by then (or your company hasn’t dropped in value), and the regulators aren’t on our back.

Publisher: No worries MS, I’ll tell all the shareholders to stop drooling over their money and cancel their extravagant holidays, just in case you can offer us that better deal in the future.

Exactly. Xbox can’t lose. They can outbid anyone at any time!

I know everyone want Sega to be the next publisher to be acquired but I just don’t think it’s very likely. If Sega was just a game publisher then I would agree but it’s part of the larger Sega Sammy corporation. I just don’t see Microsoft wanting to buy the entire holding company just for Sega because Sammy’s other business ventures don’t match up with Microsoft. I also don’t see Sammy just selling Sega off they agreed to merge with Sega back in the day to diverse profits despite the fact Sega hadn’t been profitable for a decade. Now that Sega is now in the green it just doesn’t make sense to sell them at least in my point of view

I think people are overvaluing Sega anyway

They would be a good buy, don’t get me wrong but they aren’t the game changer I think people expect them to be
