Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

In general I think people are believing Xbox is going to able to flip a switch in Japan and become uber successful I think Xbox is always gonna be niche in Japan and that’s fine I want Xbox to continue what their doing with Japanese devs but it should be with the exception that their not going to become a market leader in the country

Whoever they buy in Japan wont be to make Xbox a huge seller in Japan but to make Xbox/GP/cloud more appealing worldwide

It will also help in bringing other Japanese titles to xbox as it would likely have a domino effect of people seeing all those japanese titles day 1 on GP, move to that ecosystem causing more devs to want to release their games there, cycle repeats etc

But the idea of Xbox being switch level huge there or even half as successful is never gonna happen but it also doesn’t need to

But for the things above I dont think Sega is what they are after, I kinda feel Square and Capcom are the only ones that make sense in that regard

I think Capcom is the most likely of the big Japanese publishers but even then I think that’s a Hail Mary tbh. If Xbox does acquire studios in Japan it’s going to be smaller ones like what they were acquiring before.

They’re owned by a mobile game company called Nepro Japan, but I do wonder what their future is if SO6 bombs (which it may), especially since it’s their first console game release since… SO5 which also was not a big hit. Their owner could also just close up shop and move the talent that doesn’t leave into their other mobile game stuff, the SO mobile game that only closed last year was apparently quite successful for most of it’s life.

And, I only find conflicting stuff when I look it up, but does tri-Ace at least own some of their IPs or do they all belong to their various publishers (mostly Square)? I assume they don’t have any ownership of Valkyrie as the new one had 0 tri-Ace involvement. At least they’d reunite with Infinite Undiscovery under MS lol.

If tri-ace isn’t profitable Nepro (the company that owns them) might just want to sell them off instead of having them work on a mobile game that may or may not be a success. Also, SE have sold off their IPs they own, so MS could just buy star ocean etc. from them.

Yeah that’s also a possibility. Square selling off tri-Ace’s IPs as well, not much use for them anymore for Square if that happened lol. And on a slightly random note, they do own Resonance of Fate. The remaster was self-published.

I actually see a lot of the same boxes being ticked that were ticked on the some small studio acquisitions of 2018/19

  • Studio has potential but just can’t get the budget they need
  • Has worked with MS before
  • Uncertain future

I’d give a :+1: to this if it happened and I think having an MS budget could pull them out of their long, long rut.

I don’t think CDPR sells unless they are forced to by cash flow issues. They have been severely devalued due to the response to Cyberpunk and are likely confident that they can recover significantly.

Question. Is it possible to acquire a Chinese studio? I mean I don’t know much about China laws that could prevent foreign companies to acquire Chinese studios.

I would be interested in Mica Team/Sunborn. Tencent invests it in 20%. Yuzhong owns 70%. It’s kind of a small studio but I like Girls’ Frontline. It would be a good potential IP. it’s a mobile game but I think it would be successful if they developed a third-person shooter game.

Tbh, Chinese mobile games are growing to be more popular than Japanese mobile games except for rhythm games(Love Live). Japanese mobile games often shut down their mobile games on the Global version while Chinese mobile games are still on the Global version.

I don’t see why a foreign company couldn’t buy a Chinese one. It was pretty widely rumored that Sony was looking at acquiring Leyou before Tencent stepped in.

If the CCP can buy up huge chunks of American farmland with very little concern, sometimes no shits given by our governmental parties. Then yes, a foreign company can buy a Chinese company

Yes one of Nintendo’s subsidiaries is a Chinese company

If CDPR is acquired by someone other than Xbox, I really want it to be EA or Netflix.

EA because they could pair up Bioware with CDPR nicely and maybe even take on making some Mass Effect/Dragon Age. They can also use a lot of shared resources, systems and developed tools across the teams for hopefully faster development.

Netflix because I feel like it would be a solid way for them to really establish themselves as a gaming platform competitor. Ultimately I like Netflix being an entrant in that platform provider world.

It does not work both ways usually but heavily depends on laws and political risks.

Is Hasbro a possible buy or is that too out there?

Looking at how Bioware has done since acquired by EA without creative freedom and forced multiplayer elements… I would rather CD PR remains independent if Microsoft don’t buy them.

He is. The Austin infinity war team has been working on something and they haven’t been credited on any cods

I also prefer that, thats why I said if they are acquired. The worst would be Amazon imo.
