Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Is it bad that I’ve never heard that name before? :phil_unsure: :phil_lmao:

No, I know his name because I watched a Doc on what happened with Duke Nukem Forever. And it’s a tale of well, just an idiot who destroyed his own franchise.

I dont think xbox are gonna have another publiaher acquisition until 2024 the earliest.

Nah, as soon as the ABK deal closes, MS will announce Sega acquisition the day after.

Nah, they won’t stop. They have no reason to.

The most interesting is that who Tencent and Saudi will buy. Also Amazon really wants to enter gaming, now their best opportunity.

I dont doubt that they wont have another publisher acquisition until 2024. Lets acknowledge the Activision acquisition likely will not close until March-June 2023. Thats likely only 6-9 months to 2024.

If the activision does not close what then?. Cdpr? Square?. Buyout third party exclusivity from activision?.

CDPR does little for them, they’ll release a game every 4-5 years in a genre that Xbox will likely dominate going forward without them, not to mention they don’t own the Witcher IP, don’t think they own Cyberpunk either

They will likely be looking to other publishers that hold big IP, with or without the ABK deal going through

The thing is that after all this time I am not even sure if it is going to be the same thing, without michel ancel I dont think that they are still following his original idea for the game

I just dont want to see it become another soulless live service title like skull and bones

I’ve always been a fan of a possible CDPR acquisition, but I’m even more enthusiastic now. They basically have three big development teams.

The only downsides I see to such an acquisition is the labour conditions at CDPR( but that hasn’t stopped MS before seeing the ABK acquisition) and the fact that CDPR two of their teams are working on borrowed IP.

Watched the entire thing. Just wow. I’d say maybe it is “incompetent team leads” or the higher ups (whatever you call them :phil_lmao:) causing all the issues. It’s either that, or they have like 5 people working on the game :phil_lmao:

I’m assuming that Michel Ancel is the creator of the series? All I know about Beyond Good and Evil is that the second game has been in development for many years.

CDPR owns both witcher (atleast for the games ) and cyberpunk IP .

I wouldn’t be upset about a CDPR acquisition. They make huge games that have impact. If the Witcher builds off of the Witcher 3 success and keeps improving I could see it as large as TES/ Fallout maybe even COD in terms of success, but not owning the IP I could see Phil and Co not being as interested. If they started pumping out some Original IP, or maybe if they worked on a dormant Xbox IP while leaving the Witcher and Cyberpunk as Multiplat titles in the future, but having them on Gamepass it could make them more appealing. Who really knows though. Personally I think a Shadowrun Game setup like Cyberpunk, but in a world like the Movie Bright by CDPR could be awesome. It would be like mixing The Witcher and Cyberpunk into one game using Shadowrun lore that Microsoft could own.

I think Sony is going to be all over it because they can put their movie studios on their ips

I know right lol. It’s hard to come up with words to describe how completely fucked that situation was

Afaik CDPR only has the license to produce games in The Witcher and Cyberpunk universe. They don’t own the IP’s themselves.

Edit. They own the Cyberpunk Ip apparently

I don’t think so. Though they might partner with them - but it seems like CDPR prefers Netflix anyway.

I read articles stating they settled with the Witcher Author and had the rights to games novels and movies now, but I couldn’t find anything about Cyberpunk, but I admit I only looked for a few minutes. That would be a plus if they owned one or both. The only other negative is the output being almost one game a generation, but if they have 3 teams that could be changing. Cool though learn something new everyday.
