Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Ah man Vigilante 8 was such as a good game, it really deserves a reboot. It could be Xbox’s version of Twisted Metal or Carmageddon.

Personally I also want to see Raven reboot Soldier of Fortune.

Ubisoft just offers so much, it’s incredible value.

no but the console format will die eventually, art you seeing people go out for DVD or blueray player now a days

yes and I would imagine they they would pay the license holder to allow them to have it exclusive to their sub service

game pass is on PC and though streaming select TVs, mobile and other divices like tables so their are other markets, it isn’t just the console market but if this is the case and they are competing against PS and the Switch it gives me more reason to think their are better buys than Ubisoft since some like capcom or SEGA allow for more verity in genres which could bring more people in people in (also this kind of proves my point that exclusives don’t matter but unless you are going to try and convince me most people like the action adventure open world games with stealth elements PS shouldn’t be selling this well) or T2 and EA would being in more casuals (not to mention GTA 6 will blow any ubisoft or sony open world game out of the water along side TES6 in terms of hype)

Microsoft is playing a long game here, also keep in mind you are talking to someone who think MS are licking their lips at the thought of forcing game pass on PS and potentially even xcloud on switch then ditching xbox

the moment someone else buys EA that relationship will go away, why would amazon or google give MS stuff from EA post the contracts when it would just hurt them, also EA is more than just sports games granted that is their biggest part by far

If they want to buy them let them, I am sure the owners of those licenses would be happy to let Amazon lock Madden and other sports games down to Luna or Google and Stadia and cut their profits by 75% Those games are going to stay multiplatform or the license will be given to someone else to make those games. I know EA has other franchises, but the sports games are what keeps them on top. It used to be Battlefield, Need for Speed, the Starwars license, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect, but those games have not been on top in a long time. If Xbox want to buy EA make a deal for Respawn, Bioware, maybe Dice get Titanfall/Apex, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Maybe Medal of Honor since they aren’t going to do anything with it. Let Amazon or google get the rest 99.999% chance nothing will change if they have the sports games and Xbox already has arguably better games in the other genres. I mean the MLB forced a Sony First party studio to developt MLB the show for Xbox. The License owner has power Madden is not going to be exlclusive to any platform.

I disagree. The goal of all these leagues is to promote sports. You can’t achieve that by making them exclusive. I do think that Microsoft will try to negotiate (or tried) game pass deal for those games, like they did with MLB. Such deal is the scenario I can see Microsoft going for (rather than EA acquisition)

These annual release sports games should really swap over to a F2P or subscription model anyway. It’s pointless to pay $70 every year for the same game just to get someone’s last name added to a jersey. The rosters and stats can be added as an update. Who ever purchases them should aim to do that, but I digress, I don’t want to steer the conversation away from acquisitions.

Yeah, I predict them going F2P sooner or later following Skate. These games benefit too much from MTX so removing 70$ gate is the way forward (including cloud versions).

Thats the first reason why I want to see them under xbox, they could easily bring back their own ips aswell xbox and activisions games aswell, thats why I hope that if microsoft buys them, it will be with all their studios

You will constantly have new games on gamepass every year, let them bring back rayman, crimson skies, vigilante 8, the team behind the mario + rabbids could easily work in a new banjo

I prefer the ips from ea because they have a ton that are classics, but ubisoft just offer more

Wonder if activision will continue publishing games from other studios, that could help xbox aswell with having content on gamepass, if I remember well the last time they did it was with sekiro no?

Too much text to respond individually but I’ll summarise here.

  1. Yes the console market will eventually die out, but it’s here for atleast 1 more generation possibly 2. I emphasised currently as it is currently their biggest market so of course they should take lessons from their direct competitors (competition grows excellence). If they don’t consumers will just keep going to their competitors.

  2. There is no way Amazon or Google would compensate the license holders enough to make the games exclusive to Luna/Stadia. The amount of revenue they would loose by not selling it on the other platforms would be ridiculous and if would kill the IP too. Plus your not factoring in how much these games make in micro-transactions, for example FIFA made 1 billion in 12 months just in MTX. If you limit how many people can play it all those MTX go away.

  3. Yes Xbox should diversify what genres they offer but they also need to be competitive with what the competition is currently offering which are those big third person action adventure games. Most JRPG’s only sell a few million whereas titles like Assassin’s Creed typically do over 10-15 million, for example Valhalla reported it has made over $1 Billion! I think MS will focus on what is popular over what is (in the big scheme of things) quite niche.

My point here was mainly around if your a consumer that likes those type of games, why would you buy a Xbox over a PS? Xbox has next to no exclusives in this area whereas PS does. PS already has around 130% more consoles in people’s homes compared to Xbox.

GTA is an exception in that it sells huge but not often (9 years since GTA V).

  1. GamePass on Switch/PS? Unless cloud gets better I don’t want to play games on inferior spec’d hardware?

  2. EA and 2K sports would stay multi-platform they would loose way too much money in both sales and MTX. The license holders would simply pull out of the agreement, the difference is it would likely not be on GamePass anymore.

Yep there is no other publisher at Ubisoft’s price point that can churn out as many AAA games as they do each year, it’s ideal for GamePass especially as most of their games also support co-op.

If they also reduce their platforms too Ubisoft’s output will also improve. That or like you say reduce how often their games release (which will still be high) and use their support studios to help the XGS/Bethesda studios.

Hopefully the rumors of assasins creeds infinity ends being true, it will let more developers work on different things instead of being forced to work on the franchise, aswell for farcry or watchdogs, just let some studios handle the content just like how xbox will do with call of duty

Assasins creeds odyssey is a good game, but I want to see what else they can make, like inmortals which doesnt require to much support and they can let other developers do other things like helping xbox/bethesda/activision

Indeed, if I was looking for productivity and diversity of content for my GP, I would buy Ubisoft and SEGA. For less than 12 billion invested, you are able to release at least 1 game per month, and add a lot of existing games to your catalog.

I am playing through Origins for the first time and I am enjoying it. I haven’t played an AC game since 2 back in the day, but plan on moving through Odyssey and Valhalla at some point, hopefully on gamepass in the next few months or so.

That’s about 200+ hours of content for you dude.

From which game AC started to repeat the same formula but in a different setting?

I think where we differ is that you think the exclusive is king and people choose their console based on that.

I, however, see people looking at a service and choosing the console that allows them to use that service. It is a thing now (hate to use forums as an example, but you see it all of the time) and will become even more of a thing as Xbox’s acquisitions hit and more and more first party games are hitting the service.

People flock to PS despite not having cloud saves for free. So I doubt that they choose consoles based on service. They use marketing, word of mouth and so on. Xbox has had a better ecosystem for years, but it did not help much.

Even if they make multiplayer free, it won’t make Playstation less popular.

I see where your coming, every consumer is different at the end of the day and ultimately will have their own decisions for purchasing their platform.

I wouldn’t necessarily say ‘exclusives are king’ but I do think it plays a large factor for a large number of consumers (myself included), I think it’s just more noticeable when certain platforms specialise in on their own unique thing (Nintendo with family/party games and PS with their third person cinematic action/adventures) and your preferred platform lacks them.

I own a Razer Kishi which allows me to play my Xbox portable ( I could never do this with PS), it’s features like those which are pretty awesome. I waited to after launch to get the Series X (for reviews) and after seeing things like Quick Resume (which I use daily) that sold me on Xbox.

I should note I only buy one console each generation (plus Nintendo for the kids) then I usually invest in the other platform once it drops in price, I go where I think I get the most value (which is clearly Xbox this gen).

Cloud saves is not the same level of service as never having to buy a game again

Considering that people usually buy a handful of games and rarely own a PC that can play those games…It boils down to Xbox for now. When streaming becomes more popular it might change something, but there will be a long period of confusion where people will mistook xCloud and Remote Play.

And even with xCloud it will likely lead to pure xCloud players without consoles and PC too. I don’t think that Play Anywhere is a big selling point for example.

Just having good service is not enough.

I do think Xbox ultimately needs to diversify their content in order to reach their goals, and should be filling the niches. Third person AAA, family, sports, JRPG, etc all need to be represented.
