Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

It will be funny if xbox ends buying both

Are you referring to Ubisoft and EA?

I will be real, most people won’t even look at the exclusives, they will just buy the console their friends play on and buy stuff like CoD, FIFA, Madden, GTA 5 again, GTA 6, Minecraft, download fortnite and a few others. People really overblow how important exclusives are…unless you are Nintendo I guess

I am looking from the perspective that someone else like amazon could buy EA or T2 and easily kill that relationship with MS

Funny to think that immediately after they ended partnership with Activision which included Sony they went back to livestreams with MS and D2 Beyond Light was a day one Gamepass release.

Yes I agree that some of these games are not amazing, I just highlight the fact that they are really capable of developing anything. I put them on the list because they are inexpensive, productive, and open for sale. But there are of course other much more interesting candidates.

I agree with you. That’s why I think they will mainly target the very big franchises. Even if most remain cross-platform, having control over them could be a big argument, in addition to their release in the GP. They could even decide to make early releases on Xbox, which would be a major argument for the general public.

We shouldnt be comparing consoles, we should be comparing subscription services.

Sports games coming 3/4th of the way through the season is not enough to attract the folks that are actually into those games. The difference between NBA Day 1 and NBA week 1 of the playoffs is night and day in terms of impact.

True it would have a big impact if those large sports titles landed day one.

Until Gamepass is better advertised In not sure your average Joe Blogs will look at subscription services before buying a console though.

I am eager to see how quickly Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda move for some acquisitions after the Activision close. Really think it will be pretty quick.

I’m not so sure that is true, if you are spending $499 most consumers would have some idea what games they are getting, the console your mates have does play a big factor though.

My Brother in law who is not into games at all is currently considering getting a Series X because he’s an aviation fan and saw Flight Sim was available on Xbox.

Also one of my mates from a friend group recently brought a Series X because we all have one so both scenarios do apply.

It’s possible but PS still wouldn’t have access to those games either. The only difference would be Sony still have those third person action / adventure games to fall back on as their exclusives.

Xbox would have all their exclusives too but would continue to miss out on the market which enjoys those style of games. That’s why again I think Xbox should treat those games as their hole, if they filled it they would have those type of games covered in addition to their wide array of exclusives (in all different genres).

I think Microsoft is investing in acquisitions of companies like Activision Blizzard because they plan to convert Joe Bloggs, either via console or streaming.

I see your point, their is a reason why sony had the marketing deals for all this games(besides minecraft)

It could also attract newcomes to gamepass, wanna play some sports titles? Use the service, is it clear that when it comes to choose which console to buy, most people that are casual decided to go for ps4 because they saw the commercials for those games even when they are on xbox aswell

Most people that I know where convinced by that, still I would prefer to see the output of ubisoft with xbox, but ea will be a great choice aswell, they can clearly make those action adventures games that sony has, just look at jedi fallen order

I hope Certain Affinity is one of the fast follows.

Anything is possible, I wouldn’t be surprised if they want to secure the EA content into GP, especially as they’ve tried to buy them multiple times before.

ah, I don’t fully agree but I see where you are coming from

yeah, I have said it before but MS are making these investments for the long term, getting all EA or T2 games exclusive to game pass would be a huge get, escpecially when looking at the cloud or/and metaverse

THIS 100%, also I am saying this as someone who doesn’t get why people buy fifa or madden (its boring as shit in my opinion) but they undeniably sell millions every year, getting them day 1 along side CoD would draw in the casuals like no tommorow

just look at the attach rate for most exclusives, it isn’t great. This is also paired with the fact a lot of those sales come from console bundles, like spiderman was bundled with the PS4 for ages

no as long as ubisoft is 3rd party MS would still have those type of games but lets assume they are up for sale and if MS doesn’t grab them someone like amazon will and we know EA is looking to sell or merge, in that situation it becomes a lose lose since MS probably won’t grab both so the question is which is the bigger lose, I would say losing EA is much worse

I thought MS had the marketing deal with FIFA?

yeah I think MS wants to attract the casual gaming audience which stuff like sports games would do easily

But that’s my point, when a consumer is trying to decide which console to buy, currently most of the PS exclusives are all those style, therefore if they prefer the 3rd person action adventure type games they will continue to always choose PS over an Xbox as they have quite a few exclusives in this style in addition to the 3rd party games like Ubisoft (whereas Xbox relies almost purely on 3rd party content which is on PS too).

Xbox has its own exclusives but officially Hellblade is the only confirmed game in this style, therefore as a consumer (who enjoys these games) you will be thinking if I buy an Xbox I will miss out on Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man and God of War etc but if I buy a PS I miss out on Hellblade.

Ubisoft is the perfect opportunity to lock these type of games down as exclusives. Then the direct comparison would be Horizon, Tsushima, Spider-Man and GoW Vs Assassin’s Creed, Splinter Cell, Division, Avatar, Watch Dogs & Prince of Persia etc.

Yes I know sports games typically sell better (AC probably outsell some) but if you are trying to appeal to the same consumers as your competitor then it’s the obvious buy IMO. Imagine if PS brought Ubisoft, they would have a complete stranglehold on all of the biggest IP’s in that genre/style.

Also regardless if EA or T2 got brought you know the sports games would stay multi-platform as they are licensed (like MLB is on Xbox), that’s not necessarily the same for the above. Also it’s very very unlikely Sony could ever afford to buy either EA or T2.

No, Microsoft has no marketing rights on any big IP these days (aside maybe NFL). FIFA, NBA, MLB (not sure) are all has Sony’s marketing rights.

Outside this, Sony had marketing rights on GTA, COD, Genshin, Final Fantasy, Avatar, Harry Potter etc.

plus we know sony has rights to first refusal when it comes to games they market for subscriptions services.

True, considering what happened with MLB, I wonder if Microsoft will try to negotiate similar things for other sports IP (where MS will consider it is necessary). I am very curious what’s gonna happen with EA Sports FC.
