They do a lot of cool and interesting videos every once in a while. I haven’t checked out the video yet but it it will be interesting to see what they predict.

What do people mean when they say this? You expect WB to sell the gaming rights? They’ll never do that. They have IP that many would like to pay to licence. They wouldn’t licence exclusive rights for a period of time either. If they do sell their gaming division they’ll just licence their IP to interested parties, like Disney does. That’s just easy money.

That’s the thing - without exclusive license IP attached, nobody is gonna buy those WB studios and rather would do EA maneuver. It is basically boils down to a possibility of Microsoft to buy out DC gaming rights completely (split it like with Spider-man), otherwise aside NRS I don’t see any other studio to be acquired from there (maybe TT at best).

If they want out of game development/publishing and to sell the studios, they’ll do that sell the studios, if that’s really what they want. The price will go down and they’ll find a buyer which accepts their deal.

The thing is that those studios will be relative inexpensive if there will be a buyer for them though. It is very rare when companies buy studios without any IPs. Very rare. It is basically buying people and putting them on your balance.

Less expensive without IP but they’d still be in the billions. It’s considerable AAA talent with versatility. Talent has the ability of creating billion dollar franchises.

In this particular scenario, Cog and Sov were discussing either get exclusivity for a period for certain characters or licenses (or at the very least 1st party games would be exclusive), while also owning the gaming IP (I believe they only mentioned MK).

They both realize this would be humongous, but unlikely. Then went on about SEGA’s backlog.

I was talking about the Ubisoft catalog in general, not specifically in relation to Xbox. I’m always impressed with their ability to cover such a wide variety of games. With more freedom, I think they would be able to develop anything.

  • Strategy games: Anno / The Settlers / Endwar
  • Singleplayer FPS: FarCry
  • Multiplayer/Tactical FPS: Rainbow Six
  • Music: Rocksmith / Just Dance
  • XCOM Like: Mario + Rabbids
  • Naval Battles: Skull and Bones
  • Sports: Steep / Riders Republic
  • Racing : The Crew / Trackmania
  • Adventure game: AC / Immortals
  • TPS: Ghost Recon / The Division
  • GTA Like : Watch Dogs / Driver
  • Stealth: Splinter Cell
  • Platform: Grow Up / Rayman
  • BTA: Prince of Persia
  • Party Game : Rabbids Party of Legends
  • RPG : South Park
  • Horror: Zombi
  • Versus : Brawlhalla / For Honor
  • Trial : Trials
  • God Game : From Dust
  • Visual Novel : Is it Love
  • Aviation: HAWX
  • Mobile

We could probably add more as their catalog is huge.

Billions? Nah. 4A Games (Metro) series was sold for 36m 2 years ago (now it would cost at best 50m). And that’s with some IP at least. Platinum would cost for example 30m at best.

No disrespect to 4A, I would personally even take them over most other AAA studio suggestions, but they don’t have the blockbuster track record of WB studios.

Brazzers of course.

Metro games were good and regarding blockbusters…What was the last huge big game that sold millions from WB Games studio? How many years ago? There was Lego game but Lego + Star wars IP contributed to its success a lot too.

As I explained - for the talent, companies would rather use EA maneuver than buy people to put them on their balance sheet.

Isn’t Sony paying a billion on top for Bungie to retain their top talents? Companies absolutely value talent and capabilities. Not any talent and capabilities of course, but for the case of WB studios, they are proven AAA blockbuster talents, especially proven at making superhero and adapting transmedia IP, that’s very valuable now.

And what’s the EA maneuver?

They opened a new studio and poached senior talent from Monolith. It is that Black Panther game.

In case of Bungie it was relatively odd situation actually. I suspect that the reason for this 1b is because Bungie probably did not really want to go to Sony. There was a reason why Bungie was willing to sell to Microsoft cheaper. There was a reason why that Bungie deal was that good for Bungie. Hoeg was also shocked for example.

Nowhere near as good and efficient as ready and structured studios.

Maybe not, but the point is that companies would rather do that than try to acquire a huge chunk of people at once.

Atleast they can always make a crossover game with all the ips that xbox owns now, that will be insane

Wonder if it should be something like marvel vs capcom or more like smash brothers, there was rumors os sony making a psasbr 2 with them

really? I would say sports games considering they are one of the most popular genres in gaming like on the casual level

besides maybe sports party they don’t fit with what I mean, I mean something along the lines of a fifa

because MS is trying to be the netflix of games and the more holes they fill the better

I don’t know if this is just me but MS has a ton of content for kids, the issue is they dont do a lot with a lot of them. Like MS has minecraft, the minecraft spin offs, SoT, grounded, everwild, the forza series, crash, crash team racing, spyro, banjo, battletoads, phyconauts, ori, blynx, viva pinata ect.

I am talking about game pass and MS in house studio’s. Most of the big name sports games aren’t in game pass day 1, its a hole (Also I don’t see them going free to play)

I mean, that is literally any publisher, I am not trying to downplay Ubisoft here but any publisher had big backlogs and looking at this list of holes it would feel a lot aren’t holes or don’t really go for what I meant (sports games, if someone just plays stuff like fifa I doubt they are going to be intrested in the service cos it has are currently dead IPs a bike riding game) but not calling them a bad buy

I was comparing Xbox against the PS as ultimately I suspect most consumers will be currently looking at what exclusives each platform can offer as that’s the main defining feature between the two platforms.

From a sports perspective I would argue it would already lean towards Xbox. If they brought EA the games would still be on PS and still be on GamePass (just sooner).

  • PlayStation has MLB which is ironically on GamePass.
  • All of the EA sports games are currently on GamePass.
  • All of the 2K sports games are available on Xbox (some like NBA are also on GamePass).

Most of Playstation’s exclusives all fall into the same genre/style which are the ‘Ubisoft Clones’, this is not a criticism I enjoy these and Ubisoft games (as do many).

For consumers who enjoy these style of games, which are currently trying to decide between a PS and Xbox they will see that Xbox don’t really offer any of these type of games (as exclusives) but will miss out on all of these from PS. That’s why I consider it a major ‘hole’ as it’s also personally one of the negatives I had when buying a Series X (fortunately most of the PS exclusives are still on PS4).
