Xbox Acquisition |OT6| If this is about competition, let us have competition

Sad that Disney walked away. Would be cool. It also solidifies a theory that the company A from Activitsion SEC was EA.

Maybe EA could merge with T2? WD seems to be not interested in gaming anymore, would be an interesting merge.

Do you think Microsoft will announce takeovers at Showcase ? And show off the game they are working on like Double Fine announced in 2019 with gameplay trailer of Psychonauts 2

the possibilities

announcement IO Interactive + Project Dragon trailer

announcement Certain Affinity + Halo Battle Royale

announcement NetherRealm + Mortal Kombat XII

announcement Rocksteady + Suicide Squade

No. I think Phil Spencer said some time ago that they do not want to announce acquisitions on the showcase because it takes away the hype from games.

Also out of them I can see NRS and MK because now it is the chance. With IO and CE affinity it is harder to say.

Acquisitions proposals are getting more and more surprising

The interesting thing is that gaming companies trying to merge with TV providers, while WB wants to pivot from gaming and just provide the licenses. Also interesting that Disney does not have money for the merge.

Reading more into it, EA then allegedly went to Disney but Disney wasn’t interested.

Imagine if EA approach Microsoft after ABK :exploding_head:

EA CEO wants to be at the helm which won’t happen if Microsoft were to acquire EA. Also I don’t see Microsoft going after EA.

Capcom. Microsoft should go after Capcom. T2 would also be nice but I don’t see T2 being interested for now.

Xbox should just buy a bunch of independent studios and see if another good publisher opportunity pops up.

I believe Microsoft will pursue acquisitions that will bring big IP with high engament values.

That would be great but I’m not expecting any acquisition as long as ABK isn’t cleared.

Could be indeed, makes sense

Apex Legends, Sims, NFS, FIFA/FC & Madden are all some of the biggest IP right now

On a more serious note the top selling games every year are normally always the same publishers: EA, TakeTwo, Ubisoft, Capcom and WB*.

*Obviously excluding Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and ABK.

I am betting on Capcom. Unlike any other companies they don’t have additional businesses and own a lot of IP without additional licensing.

I wonder what’s market cap the new company will have

It makes sense.

  • Horror ✓ - Resident Evil
  • Fighter ✓ - Street Fighter
  • Massive Playerbase ✓ - Monster Hunter
  • Action Adventure ✓ - DmC
  • Platformer ✓ - Megaman

For the money I personally still think Ubisoft makes the most sense. They have 2-3 games in the top 10 selling games basically every year.

Ubisoft is too bloated and for now, Microsoft has no issues with western content. Does anybody believe that the next Far Cry or Assassin’s Creed will skip Xbox?

But they need to make a splash in Japan to be taken seriously. And Capcom is basically the only one they could acquire there because they have everything Microsoft needs (aside JRPGs ironically)

For their price I don’t think having 2-3 big sellers coming out every year would be a bad thing for Xbox’s annual output either

Capcom had the top selling game in Japan in 2021 with MH. MHS2 and RE7 also sold very well there so I agree (even though it feels Capcom are catering more to the west lately), the Japanese market otherwise is practically a list of Nintendo games.

The issue is not the price but what comes with Ubisoft. The same thing why Square Enix acquisition does not look attractive if you look at it seriously. I think what we will get is Ubisoft+ Classics and that’s it. And I think it is enough.

I doubt Microsoft will get Ubisoft. At least anytime soon.
