40 billion was roughly what the merger was 50 percent premium 60 billion roughly how much Disney bought fox I would say could be wrong thou
Maybe. All in all, I don’t see Microsoft going after WB Discovery whole. Microsoft did not show indication that they want to join movie industry. They are all in on gaming to get as many IPs as possible. With cross-media being popular I can see them making deals with various streaming services in making movies using gaming IPs.
In general it would be interesting to see the situation on the market within next years. Netflix, WB (HBO Max + Discovery), Disney+, Paramount, Amazon prime.
- Netflix is very vulnerable there because they really don’t own big IPs there and don’t have enough money to go after big IPs (also a lot of their adaptations are trash but that’s a separate matter).
- WB has now HBO Max + Discovery with DC IPs, which is a relatively strong position.
- Disney+ is in the best position because they did a brilliant play with their acquisitions (Pixar, Lucasfilms, Fox) just in time before streaming revolution
- Paramount - hard to say but they have big IPs like Star Trek (they are trying to run it into the ground) and they partner with Microsoft and Sega a lot, so they have potential
- Amazon - they also realized that they need big IPs (thus went after MGM) on the platform, also do content based on big IPs. And they have money to go after big names.
- Apple - don’t follow, no idea what they are doing but Apple is always kinda risk averse and very independent.
Big IPs are very important and that’s why Microsoft is trying to buy as many publishers (and big IPs) as possible
The most epic scenario is
- Microsoft buys Paramount and WB (merges Paramount+, HBO Max + Discovery)
- Microsoft buys Spotify
- Microsoft buys Discord
Paramount does look the most likely Netflix there IPs are Nat great mostly Disney out of price and wouldn’t sell Wb discovery I personally thinks makes the most sense for Microsoft would be around 70 billion could buy it before the price shots up. Also it’s the only one that also offers you gaming studios and devs probably second best IPs after Disney
Spotify they have no interest in the music industry it seems Discord they tried it didn’t work I think steam would be great purchase with vr stream deck and steam store heifers a deal would never pass in this climate
I don’t think they would allowed to buy both wb discover and paramount otherwise that would be crazy. Out of the two has to be wb discovery
I am pretty sure both WB and Paramount would be allowed simply because there are still several huge subscription monsters like Disney+, Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Spotify would complete the media triad - music, movie and games. Especially considering how far Spotify market cap fell (from 60b to 20b).
Discord might have another chance in the future.
Still I don’t see Microsoft going after movies and music. They have created Microsoft Gaming rather than Microsoft Media for a reason.
Still imagine crazy Discord integration with Game Pass (cloud gaming or joing gaming session immediately from the chananel), Spotify (music integration into the platform), Streaming (imaging concurrent watching of movies via Discord channels). Granted it would lose them a lot of money.
I feel like with tv shows and movies they will see how successful halo and gears are first maybe see how fallout show goes to then decide if it’s worth it. In terms movies/tv I feel in 2013 they were to ahead in a way Microsoft is the reason Netflix app exists because they wanted movies on Xbox so asked Netflix if they make it available on Xbox
In terms of music I don’t think there that interested to be honest
Maybe they could go for wb discovery and the furture but paramount the 3 big players in the industry Disney Sony and Comcast too pricey and won’t sell do need But ur right I hope Microsoft do look into the move/tv show space unlikley thou
Well in 2013 Microsoft correctly predicted all the trends but was too early to the market and Kinect being bundled to consoles decimated Xbox.
Andy Robinson en Twitter: “Microsoft’s president has said the Activision Blizzard acquisition is “moving fast”. https://t.co/1n2cYQDSlg” / Twitter Good news for the ABK deal. That only left us with WB and a BIG japanese name(Capcom) in the way
I don’t see WB whole. But NRS is a high possibility (I just don’t see Microsoft letting that go).
Capcom - I don’t believe that either (though Capcom is the best option for Microsoft in Japan due to lack of any other side businesses)
Would be interesting if Microsoft went after T2.
Actually now that I think about it, Capcom & NRS acquisitions would be fascinating - Xbox would go from having no fighting games to having all important fighting games Throw in Killer Instinct and you are set
Take Two is my dreams
Ya then they can make Grand Theft Forza.
You already can switch cars in Forza
But I’d like to steal or blowup yours
Imagine Blur 2 by Beenox with the Forzatech engine, specifically the Horizon fork.
I really just hope MS grab the smaller studios before going after the bigger publishers again. Being tied up for this long sucks…for my excitement in this thread atleast.
I think they’re in an ideal position with the smaller studios - when a publisher wants to sell they are going to sell - they ain’t waiting for Microsoft to be done with an acquisition. The studios Microsoft has third party deals with though? They can take a few years working on exclusive projects and build a working relationship before acquiring them (if that is what both parties want) when it is convenient to do so.
maybe but the Crystal Dynamics thing has made me worry a little bit. I mean, who knows if MS was even interested but it sure feels like they would have been.
Player first games do you if Xbox were to buy dc they would also be interested in that studio. From the previews I heard the game solid mutiverses is solid imagine them making a Xbox brawler with Xbox game studios Zenimax Actvision/Bizzard and wb games. Then beenox can make a kart racer with all these characters too
I am not sure about. Big acquisitions are more exciting for a longer time than smaller time. Granted none of aquisitions produce the immediate output anyway.
We have no idea what transpired there and I am pretty Microsoft did not go after Crystal Dynamics because they decided not to, rather than they could not. After all Embracer will have to support Avengers too. There was also no need to make a defensive acquisition either there.
Microsoft is looking at bigger and more popular IPs that generate huge engagement numbers. There are a handful of them in the world and all of them are tied to one publisher or another, or a license. EA (Apex, FIFA), Square Enix (FF), Capcom (Monster Hunter), T2 (GTA, NBA), WB (MK).
EA interested to merge / being acquired ? (Excerpt in the link)
