Xbox Acquisition |OT| - So We’re Back to Making Lists, Huh?

Comes with them. MS should focus on managing Tango for the foreseeable future. Actually learn about the market this way instead of wading in and acting aggressive by snapping up big publishers.

They have Microsoft Japan you know.

Not to mention they were also in talks with Square and were looking at SEGA at some point too a long while ago.

Rumors of CAPCOM looking at potentially being bough out during their dark years too (although we don’t know for sure if Microsoft was involved).

Not to mention Brad Sams being under the impression Platinum was approached by Microsoft at one point too.

Hasn’t Xbox been pretty hands off with their acquisitions? I don’t see why they cant just buy it and let them continue to just run as they do now.

I do feel like your main issue is not getting games on Playstation rather than concerns about MS. They learnt a lot of things over the years and use hands off approach towards their purchases the last years. Everything will be ok.

That’s not the case with Japanese IP. The people who play those would not migrate to Xbox. They go from Nintendo to Sony and back but never to Xbox. Atlus literally never put anything on the platform.

Microsoft release their game on PC and PC player love japanese game so it’s not a problem.

Everything will be ok if MS stay away from acquiring Japanese publishers, which I think common sense will prevail and they will

It is clear that you main concern is not getting games on Playstation.

My main concern is a PR disaster that is bound to happen if MS wade into a market they dont understand as has been proven time and time again.

Game Pass growth is the key to Game Pass succeeding… which means they need to fill all their gaps.

And as I’ve said many times, companies like SEGA/CAPCOM/Bandai Namco fill most of these gaps up in one foul swoop (SEGA more so with strategy, JRPG, fighting, and family), but like I said, no one is saying Microsoft will buy one of them.

If the scenario comes up though (like it has in the past) you can bet Microsoft will be looking at the opportunity just like they did with Zenimax and reportedly were doing with WB.

Game sales isn’t the end game here.

Fund, contract, invest, in Japan by all means. Bring it on. But yea don’t acquire

What PR disaster ?

Japanese don’t care about Playstation, they only care about mobile game. Persona on XCloud + PC + Xbox will have a loooooot more player than Persona only on PS for example

You’re absolutely wrong. Atlus has published some games on Xbox in the past. Catherine and Persona 4 arena on 360 for example.

They flopped massively

This thread is getting derailed again. I’m done. Lol

You said atlus never put anything on the platform, I said you’re wrong, you change the argument to how they sold?

even if there was backlash from playstation owners in japan all they would need to do is sell a stand alone streaming version on the switch, like the recently released switch version of control. That way you might even increase the player count in japan as the switch is wildly more popular than playstation

After those games bombed they never bothered again. To me buying a dev who has had no success on your eco system is bad news.

Yeah

Releasing atlus game on mobile + Switch + Xbox/PC is a much better outcome than exclusive for Playstation wich is a niche platform in Japan now
