Looks like they’ve said “video games companies” and “where it makes sense” with no further input on that.
I don’t think they’re done with publishers, especially since they publicly notified they were interested in Warner Bros (while closing talks with Bethesda).
Microsoft is being aggressive here, and I don’t expect them to stop anytime soon. They have a subscription based platform they need to support.
Agreed I just hope Microsoft doesnt get tik tok could leave them vulnerable to get outbid from Amazon, and Tencent on Major Publisher, side note Techland is a must lol.
So far they have been defensive not aggressive. Tieing up loose ends with devs and people they have worked with for decades. I’ll be surprised if they acquire anyone else but maybe Paradox
They’ve worked with just about every major name for “decades”.
The argument for Paradox is the exact argument you could make for SEGA or CAPCOM too imo. Xbox has also worked with them for decades. They both fill gaps in Xbox’s portfolio and have worked closely with Microsoft both in present and past.
MS have only worked with Sega and Capcom briefly. In comparison, Zenimax, Obsidian and the rest all knew the MS team directly. They’ve been friends on a personal level.
They won’t acquire Sega or Capcom mate. It’s futile to think so
Microsoft will invest in the biggest IP they can get for the money. We know in their history they’ve made offers to Midway, Nintendo, EA, Square and of course, Zenimax. They aren’t going to turn down big content because its a publisher. They’ll make it work.
Publisher or independant doesn’t really matter. Its what they want and how much.
SEGA literally released exclusives on the original Xbox… enough to the point people thought of the Xbox as the Dreamcast successor… Creative Assembly and Relic both have worked on (or are actively working on) Xbox titles…
In the case of CAPCOM, Dino Crisis 3 was an original Xbox exclusive. Dead Rising started as an exclusive, 3 was also exclusive, 4 was timed. Microsoft invested money into CAPCOM (or put money towards a GP deal?) a couple years ago.
I don’t know what makes you think SEGA only suddenly started working with Xbox, but its 100% incorrect.
I’m not saying either are being acquired either, but saying Paradox is more likely because they fill a gap is the same argument as these two. lol
You’re doing a lot of historical revisionism to state that Microsoft only worked with Sega briefly… Peter Moore left Sega to lead Xbox and essentially laid a lifeline to his former company through Xbox. No other publisher supported Xbox as thoroughly in the early years of Xbox and no other publisher released as many exclusives on it as Sega did. There’s literally not another publisher that has a relationship as long and through, or a legacy as intertwined as Sega and Xbox’s.
Furthermore, yes Capcom isn’t going to sell to anyone at the moment, especially since they finally started seeing a resurgence and some decent sales success over the past five years. However, Sega literally just spun off the non-gaming sectors into a subsidiary.
I’m not sure what the situation is on your front: if you weren’t around at the time of these events or you’re just unfamiliar. You might want to do a bit more research; the only certainty is that CDPR isn’t being bought by a company that is pro-trans and equal rights.
I mean the best MS can get from Sega is Yakuza on XGP, yet people think Sega will agree to sell and MS would be interested in buying. Guess everyone sees it differently
Almost every Sega studio barring Sonic team and Atlus are on gamepass right now. Creative assembly’s games, relic’s games, RGG’s games, Two Point’s games, Amplitude’s games, and FM21 is an Xbox console exclusive. Relic is working on Microsoft biggest pc IP, creative assembly worked on Halo Wars 2. Alien isolation is the first game you see on gamepass list lol.
It’s not just Yakuza that their relationship extends to, as you see Sega have had a much longer second party relationship with Xbox for a while now. Sega makes more sense for an acquisition than Zenimax did.
Having said that, I don’t personally think an acquisition is happening, but I’d be lying if I said Xbox and Sega won’t become bigger partners in the future than ever before, possibly the biggest partnership either company will have.
