Will Bethesda Games be Xbox Console Exclusive?

To people saying they left the door open for interpretations/that its like Minecraft, does this scream multiplatform for you?

They are clearly positioning it as a Xbox acquisition. To see this as anything other than full exclusivity is plain wrong. This is either going to be exactly what people expect or massive rug pull.

I did, but, I guess that’s why I’m not the one blowing up this thread with meaningless hyperbole (no I don’t mean you)

This is where i’m at with this whole thing. I don’t really care if they’re exclusive to Xbox or not. I’m just glad i’ll be able to play their games day one without Sony trying to get a 1-year exclusive deal

There is no confusion in what Sony would do in this scenario and I’m tired of people acting willfully obtuse about it. We know FOR SURE none of their games would come to Xbox.

I still think it’s important for Xbox to give clarity on Bethesda titles moving forward once they have their event. Any silence on the subject just leads to this “is this game Xbox eco-exclusive?” any time Bethesda announces a new game/IP. Making things clear will also send a message of confidence to the industry and the loyal Xbox consumers who have supported through the “the games are coming just wait” phase.

A lot of people have bought a Series X or S because they assumed Bethesda’s games will be exclusive, if they are not it’s gonna be a shitshow. Those people would have just bought a PS5.

I gotta say, I’m pretty calm today.

Just waiting for Tom Warren to say something, hope it’s good.

Yeah that is a good catch. If they wanted to keep Bethesda multi-platform but still own them for gamepass reasons or w/e they could have positioned it as a MS purchase and not associated Bethesda with Xbox. I think the fact they associated it with Xbox is a good sign.

As part of our commitment to bringing a steady stream of new, exclusive games to our fans

We’re focused on implementing new Microsoft technologies, delivering content for new platforms and services like Xbox Game Pass, and creating exclusive games that turn players into loyal Xbox fans.

We are committed to expanding the Microsoft Studios franchises players already love, and investing in new, exclusive content for every type of gamer.

Notice a pattern at all?

Rand al Thor.

If seems clear to me that he isn’t in the know about it. It’s all speculation like we’ve all been doing. Things that are relevant to this thread in the video are:

  • Says that hopefully MS will clarify their true intentions this week, but something tells him they won’t, that they might string us along until E3 where they have two shows.

  • Goes into detail about a Jeff Grubb article. It’s unclear whether MS will address the question of platform exclusivity. Thursday may provide a black and white answer, or it might keep things gray. Especially if its plans are more nuanced and conditional from game to game.

  • Don’t be surprised if all of a sudden a lot of games enter Game Pass like Wolfenstein TNO, TNC, Dishonored DE and DotO, Oblivion, all of the games might hit the service immediately.

  • MS will hammer home how every single Bethesda release coming in the future will be day one Game Pass.

  • Regarding exclusivity, Jeff says we may find out a 100% for sure there. It could be completely black and white. Phil Spencer could say in the video that their plans are to support Xbox, PC and platforms that support Game Pasa which would send a strong message that all these games will be exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem.

Or Phil Spencer, Todd Howard and Xbox could reiterate that it will be decided on a case by case basis and we won’t know their true intentions until E3 when they announce new titles like Wolfenstein 3 and we actually see what Starfield is and they come out and tell us "yes, Starfield is only going to be on Xbox, PC and Game Pass. Or something like Wolfenstein 3 will be on Playstation.

  • Rand’s predictions:

The vast majority of the titles will be exclusive Xbox, PC and Game Pass. Certain games have contracts like Deathloop and Ghostwire, and maybe some other unannounced titles. Then you have Zenimax Online and he expects those games to be multiplatform because it needs the users.

Those are all quotes from the Obsidian and inXile article, correct? If the article for Bethesda is pretty much like this too…it will be clear as day. The only difference is with Obsidian we knew that ToW and DLC was still being worked on and inXile with Wasteland 3. For Bethesda there could potentially (sadly) be more than just Ghostwire and Deathloop. Unannounced stuff, which I would say you just cancel that and announce it as Xbox but hey, who knows. But this could make the message potentially more tricky.

There we go, exclusive. At least some of them:

Oh brother… “some new exclusive titles”

Here we go!

Service games on all platforms and the rest exclusive ? I hope this is the approach.

This is clearly just because there will be announced games launching soon that are not exclusive like Ghostwire and Deathloop.

This sounds a lot like case by case unfortunately.
