Only financial or legal obligations could make Bethasda games come to PlayStation.
Star Field atleast will have timed exclusivity despite having game in development for PS.

People really should get a grip. There will be stuff in place already. It won’t be as simple as just ‘everything is exclusive’ or the opposite. Which is why they can’t just say that. You have no idea for example what the deal with Indians Jones rights is. The contract may involve releasing that across multiple platforms. Nobody knows what is in the deal. So it’s nuanced and complex as you’d expect with a 7.5Bn deal.
Just sit back and wait for the gamepass goodness and stop expecting something as hugely complex as this to instantly satisfy your console warrior. Just live in the real world not the console warrior online list world. Things make much more sense in the real world.
Almost everyone is reasonable to expect Indie to be multi platform due to licensing and prior contracts. Tes6, Starfield and the like? Hell no.
There were over 5 hundred messages in the last 20 hours without any major news regarding this topic. What are you guys doing? I just can’t believe it.
But that’s why there isn’t going to be some grand and sweeping announcement. I mean Starfield might already have a PS5 version in development that Bethesda would prefer not to scrap. Nobody knows what complexities there are.
There can’t be a definitive everything is Xbox and PC only except for X,Y and Z because it’s too confusing a message. It’s also too final. In the future should for example PS5 allow gamepass as unlikely as that is right now that changes the game entirely.
This whole conversation exists because Xbox PR is trash. We wouldn’t even have this conversation if Xbox execs wouldn’t contradict themselves with every interview. Phil talks about how its annoying that people ask for ports and that its not sustainable, yet the CFO makes it seem like every game will be timed exclusive at best.
The first paragraph you wrote is true and I am pretty sure everyone would understand and accept if Xbox PR would just come out and communicate this with their community.
Do you think this conversation would happen if Sony bought Bethesda? No. People would accept it and be pleasantly surprised if Sony decided to port games to Xbox.
This is a problem Xbox created and only they can fix it. No one actually talks about Bethesda games anymore. Every community out there is wondering what Xbox plans in regards to exclusivity are. This won’t die unless they come out and share their plans.
Roll on Thursday, hoping for a few teases.
I mean 500!! The anxiety, you would think Xbox will come away from this getting somehow less games
It’s almost like some people are in the hobby for the drama rather than just enjoying a certain form of entertainment.
Fucking crazy! I had 580 lol. Skipped to the last 50 and still didn’t gain anything from it
I mean I have some real anxiety to worry about, what do I do in my first hairdressers appointment in a year? I can’t waste the opportunity, should I try and go all short or just get the split ends done and maybe a colour. These a real questions with real answers. I am so tempted to start my new job in April with Franka Potente’s hair from Lola Rennt.
The gold debacle was clearly a way to move people out of the Gold sub into gamepass though.
So a smart goal, executed tremendously poorly, but the goal would align with they keeping the games exclusives, which I have no doubt it will happed.
If they fumble in the execution, which is very likely it will be in letting Beth release Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop as PS exclusives, or letting Wolfestein 3 release on other platforms so they “can finish the fight”. In short, I fully expect Ms to move towards full exclusivity, but move towards that a lot slower than they should.
Hang on you’re confusing PR - people who craft messages with people who make decisions or even business reality.
Lets say its complex and part of the deal with Bethesda is that continuing projects will release on PS5 along with some where the rights extend across a multiplatform release. That was the deal its done. How do you PR that? You’re going to say ‘its confusing’ which it may well be but that’s because its a complex deal (as you’d expect for billions of dollars) that perhaps doesn’t lend itself to the instant gratification of a clear message. And some poor PR person isn’t to blame. Nobody is to blame.
I also think its a bit disingenuous when people say ‘if Sony bought X we’d not have theses issues’. Well if Sony or anyone else bought a huge publisher with a large number of studios under them and projects in play you’d bet they’d have exactly the same confusion to contend with. And the only difference would be Xbox fans would be doom and gloom and Sony fans wouldn’t care either way and would just look forward to the games coming their way.
And here’s my broad point - the idea that there is any simple and clear statement that makes any sense that can come this week or this year even is for the birds. Nobody is going to say ‘hey when we’ve burned through the next few games we’re not making games for X systems anymore’. Its just stupid to expect that and probably a terrible call. Things change quickly these days. Nor does it make sense to publicly commit to all games being multiplat. I don’t really see how anyone can expect either statement without a ton of caveats - and that in a years time it’s likely either statement would be wildly out of date one way or another. If gamepass growth continues then of course its easier to keep games exclusive if it doesn’t it arguably becomes harder.
Fundamentally the deal with Bethesda will have had plenty of discussions about these things and I’d say its quite clear now that there isn’t going to be a clear blanket position. You can’t expect MS to go through every announced and unannounced title and outline their plans and frankly its ridiculous to think any blanket statement would even apply here.
I personally DO think most games will be Xbox/PC only (or wherever gamepass exists) but there may be a time lag to that happening - projects in development may not be canned for example. Which you know, might make sense not to annoy the multiple development teams they are inheriting initially. People have to understand that this is hugely complex and there is far far more to it than ‘list wars’. If a developer says ‘we’ve got the PS5 version in development’ and wants to pursue that then its a big call to say ‘no stop’. Whilst Xbox can say whatever they like there is a human management element here too.
At the end - all i can see is xbox winning.
Not the stupid console wars but make good proposition about there platform.
Series X is and will be my preferred platform to play.
Because i am confident that 23 studios will pump out atleast 50 quality games for the 7 year span of this ninth gen.
And all i am spending is $10 a month. Or maybe $15 if i really had to.
MS is buying the game publisher and studio. i think these issues can be resolved. Jim Ryan didnt know if Starfield would go to PS5. i dont think Starfield started being ported to PS5 or Stadia, Luna etc.
Random side thought, I wonder if MS could dig a little into how Sony does their timed exclusive deals since they own the company. The whole Deathloop and that other game I forgot about, I wonder if MS could read what their terms are and all that because that would be pretty interesting but I don’t know if it’s confidential or what.
Yeah at the end of the day Xbox will win no matter what they do exclusive, timed exclusive all games on all platforms they get money all ways, it’s just how they want to slice it. Some ways are better than others but no matter what they win and we win as Game Pass users, at least we don’t need to worry about Bethesda games being timed exclusive lmao maybe that is the whole reason why MS bought Bethesda to stop Sony buy timed exclusives lol.
Timed exclusivity will muddy the waters and will lead to people simply waiting it out. How are you getting timed exclusives from your own studios lol.
You’re probably right about this.
We all didn’t really like it after Xbox acquired Obsidian and inXile that they still had deals in place to release games on Playstation and with Bethesda most of us were hoping it was just Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo. But it was probably kinda naive of us to expect this when this company consists of many different studios. If the rumor is true about Skyrim 10th, that’s yet another one we didn’t and couldn’t take into account. And maybe there’s more.
Perhaps that’s why we might yet again hear things like “case by case” but what I hope is that they can be transparent about stuff still coming to PS5, and then be upfront about it and say everything else you can only find on Xbox and PC. But it likely isn’t as simple as that, someone here earlier mentioned that maybe BGS really wanted to keep working on Starfield for PS5. We all assume Xbox stopped it, but only they know.
I hope not though. Xbox having that as full exclusive would be huge for them. A brand new IP, likely to be a success too is born on Xbox. We know Jim Ryan has no idea, so if BGS is fine with it…Xbox should only worry about themself, lock it down. And besides, as if the first two games coming from Bethesda a whole year first exclusive to PS isn’t bad enough, enough is enough I’d say.
No they would not. There would be 100% expectation that the games are not coming to Xbox, and 50-60% for PC. A lot of people would be discontent for sure though. But that’s it.
Playstation does not have the history of publishing games on another platforms. Hell, even sports title like MLB was exclusive to Playstation and even big IPs like Spider-man are Playstation exclusive (and we are arguing if Indiana Jones will be exclusive or not). That’s the difference.
