It’s funny because my coworker wore a PS shirt on Tuesday (that black one, lol). I don’t see them often at all here in Los Angeles though.
I mean sure it’s a thing but the whole point of this thread is that PlayStation isn’t the market leader and that point went over your head. Is PlayStation popular? Yes. Is it the market leader? No, Nintendo is the market leader… Nintendo is especially the market leader in t shirts compared to PlayStation. There is no debate about that in my opinion.
i’m a little worried about that, i dont think walmart actually has any in stock. when they were first available delivery time was only a couple days. I ordered one for a friend last week and it says it wont arrive for 2 weeks and hasnt even started preparing to be sent out.
My point is you really can’t say Sony is the CLEAR market leader in anything. They are not the top selling hardware makers anymore, they do not have the biggest 1st party anymore, they are not the biggest money earners in gaming and with the merger MS will be right on their heels.
It seems people just want to declare them “Market Leader” for eternity and ignore the current state of gaming. Each platform holder and non platform holders like Tencent, Epic, Valve have a huge piece of the gaming pie.
Also since pretty much EVERYONE has revenue streams outside of their Console hardware platform, MS has huge PC presence, Cloud, etc and Sony has a major push now into PC gaming, trying to loop in all their revenue into CONSOLE only related money can’t be done and does not make sense. You can’t claim Sony is the “CONSOLE” revenue leader and Console “MARKET LEADER” when they get stream of revenue outside of consoles and also aren’t #1 in consoles in any real metric.
The market has shifted and each player has a well working strategy for their own success. No one is “Market Leader” anymore and it certainly is not Sony anyway.
I don’t really care who the market leader is. What we do know is that Sony has a big enough role in this market to get cheaper exclusives, cheaper marketing deals, get paid for cross play, and wield various other forms of power over third parties.
Arguing over the term is meaningless when the results are the results.
Yup. We will probably see some changes this generation, but when Sony can still leverage their 114M strong still active PS4 user base, it doesn’t really matter that the Switch is currently outselling everyone.
I was with OP’s point the whole way that Nintendo is clearly the actual market leader
I only mentioned the tshirt thing because I’ve been so bombarded with seeing those things for years now. So I brought it for a laugh, because I imagined it would ring true with so many other people. Next I know I’m getting such forcefull pushback and am now questioning my reality, or perhaps my luck in which individuals happen to be the first to read and reply to what I said
I knew you mentioned it as a joke. But I still had to call you out on it since even for T shirts PlayStation isn’t the market leader. It just fit this thread discussion too perfectly
Well I would be glad to be wrong
…still not sure I am, but…
I see many Playstation shirts but very few Xbox shirts
Ahh, thank you. Someone finally makes me feel like I’m not insane
Yep and I’d like to see that term retired from describing Sony’s place in gaming, they are not Market Leader of anything anymore
It’s not likely to happen especially since many in the media are very supportive and protective of that moniker.
Also, I see Nintendo shirts basically everyday, but never see PlayStation or Xbox ones.
Sony sold more PS5s than Microsoft sold Xbox Series S/X, so…
even when tencent is the largest company in gaming, I still consider sony market leader.
What do we count Spider-Man T-shirts and Merch as? Are they for Sony???
Nintendo sold more Switches than Sony sold PS5’s since the PS5 was released so?
In order to claim Sony is market leader of anything you have to REALLY curtail and twist your definition of the “Market” that Sony is the leader of.
At this point if people insist on it then just say Sony is the Market leader of consoles by companies that start with the letter S
I get that people do that with Sony but it still makes no sense and is not based on facts of any type.
Ok so Nintendo is the market leader them. What changed? Xbox is still in last…
I don’t see Nintendo together with Sony and Microsoft because they’re not even in the same gen or competing directing, so I don’t count. There’s nothing to twist, really, Sony sold more consoles, more games, generate more money…
Yea you are doing it now, making up imaginary criteria to still prop up Sony, Sony sold more consoles recently only when you remove Nintendo from the gaming market, Sony sold more games and generates more money in gaming only if you ignore everything Tencent is doing.
I’m not saying Xbox is market leader of anything but in todays gaming Market you can’t just make a blanket statement that Sony is market leader of anything unless you ignore other major players in the gaming space.
The market has changed and diversified and spread out dramatically with different services and hardware to access games. The use of the term “Market Leader” has pretty much zero meaning anymore and no matter how you slice it Sony aint it.
