This is a hot take for sure, but in my opinion ND didn’t figure out how to make the gameplay fun until UC4 (although they did so before then with TLOU imo). Even in UC4, it took up to the last third of the game for the platforming to get really good (when you unlock some new mechanics). The CD Tomb Raider games are an interesting comparison because yeah their gameplay is much more consistently good but UC is stronger in other areas (like characters).

My favorite gameplay portions of UC4 were probably the vehicle sections. Those were superb.

The Tomb Raider games have much better gameplay but the Uncharted games are much better cinematic experiences, with better characters and a better story. Both have their pros and cons.

Just finished the Valhalla paris and rogue lite DLC. The former was boring and the latter was very easy ? Got all achievements in 4h. Now Ragnarok left and I can finally play something else.

On the final boss in the Beyond the Dawn expansion for Tales of Arise. It’s more Tales. Good but short if you just main line the story. Will complete it this weekend and then start Banishers next week.

Still playing Baldur’s Gate 3…

Incredible game!

Started with Planet of Lana, before I dive back into bigger games. Finished Twin Mirror before this, thought it was very meh.

I bought BG3 around the Xmas holiday but have managed to hold off until it’s all patched and my plate is cleared so I can get stuck in.

Finished Yakuza Giaden last week and currently playing Like a Dragon. Occasionally picking up Final Fantasy 7 Remake on my WinDeck, Also fighting the urge to start Persona 3 Reload.

Hehe, yeah it requires a lot of time and focus. There’s still a few bugs here and there, but nothing major for me so far.

Spoiler-Free Thoughts on Persona 3 Reload

Just finished Persona 3 Reload. This marks my 15th completed game/expansion this year.

As someone that played Persona 3 for the first time last year via the P3P port, I am highly impressed by this remake. Sure, there are some features missing from that version and FES (will be curious how the DLC rumors/leaks turn out), but this remake really brought did the story justice in a way most fans will probably be happy with.

For me, Persona 3 was my least favorite of the 3 modern mainline games. Not that it was bad, but just 5R and 4G brought so many amazing characters, moments, and fun set pieces and worlds to explore. With P3R, a lot of the issues I had were fixed. Tartarus is still quite tedious, but the changes they made really do help make it feel like less of a slog. I also personally really enjoyed the new soundtrack. While I probably prefer the original version of Mass Destruction, most of the other tracks really stand on their own.

Between LAD: Infinite Wealth and P3R, I’m already willing to say this is a more exciting year for my gaming tastes than 2023 was… and we’re only in February.

Nobody Saves the World and Fall Out 76

NSTW is great fun, especially co-op.

I have been playing FO76 co-op on PS5 for several months. I am nearly done with this season’s scoreboard. I started a new character on Xbox…and I have FO1st on both systems. Help lol

I am considering starting Persona 3 this weekend.

I started song of nunu. Beautiful environment and creatures, simple fun puzzles. The combat is good with cinematic animation. My early rating 7.5/10 which may go up after finishing the game

Finished two more games. One good, one not so much on the single player content front.

1.) FOAMSTARS - Rating: 1.5/5

Figured I might as well give this a shot since its a PS+ title and man… those missions are boring. Essentially you have 6 different characters that have 3 missions each. What do these missions entail? Well I’m glad you asked! They each consist of you defending a generator (or something) while waves of enemies come at you, then end with unskippable dialogue. Every damn time. Oh and every mission opens up with some dialogue and an awkward few seconds of seeing your character just stand there in front of the generator. lol

I’ve only played one MP match, but I actually thought it seemed okay. Was a bit chaotic, so maybe once I’m a bit more used to playing the different game modes I might actually enjoy a portion of this game. We’ll see if I ever get around to doing squad missions… I have doubts.

2.) Sin & Punishment - Rating: 3.5/5

The last couple years I’ve been on a couple of missions. One is to chip away at my backlog and another is to get around to more retro games that I’ve either never played or never ended up finishing. Today I loaded up my Switch to play the cult classic Sin & Punishment. An on rails (usually) shooter with a whacky as hell story that I can’t even begin to explain. That last boss fight is insane (if you know you know).

Its a brisk 2 hour experience that you can play through if you have the NSO Expansion Pass that includes the N64 emulator… it just sucks that you can’t buy it. Especially with obscure games like this one. Hopefully I get the chance to play the sequel someday, but we’ll see if it ever gets ported.

How good is F.I.S.T !!

Quoting myself, apologes.

It is seemingly quite difficult to google numerous things when looking for assistance with this game. Is it the dots inbetween each letter thats sent its info to banishdom ?

I played a few hours of it when it released on PlayStation 5. It looks really good, has good combat/gameplay and good voice acting. I dropped it because it’s a metroidvania and the constant backtracking isn’t for me.

Yeh the backtracking is rearing its head more now. Should have known i guess, but still really liking it.

If you can accept the backtracking, the game is really good.

The only aspect of F.I.S.T. that bugged me was the completionist aspect being pretty much locked behind being able to complete all the combat training moves. If you can’t do that, then essentially there’s half-dozen achievements locked, because of how things are stacked:

  • Completed all combo training at the training field
  • Unlocked all Fist Skills
  • Collected all posters
  • Unlocked Qi Explosion skill
  • Discovered all of the secrets in Torch City
  • Eliminated 5 enemies during one Qi Explosion
