New LOONA single is stupid catchy.
I cannot see the name Loona without thinking of Twitter and it makes me chuckle a little.
Yeah the Twitter spam of fans is crazy. Not as insane as BTS’ but pretty mad.
Your toast would not have fallen jam side down if you stanned Loona
Well I used to make Happy Hardcore in the late 90s and early 2000s, a genre that was not only cheesy but was far behind in production quality and mastering/engineering! I’m so itching to do some hardcore/gabber/jumpstyle stuff but don’t have the time unfortunately. COVID-19 has me in a hardcore/frenchcore venting sort of mood.
Over the Spring I’ve been listening to 80s Japanese citypop and jazz fusion because that’s what has influenced a lot of 90s Japanese videogame soundtracks, and I wanted to get into their mindset.
Piper’s Night Shore (which is heavily influenced by another track, almost a ripoff) sounds like it’s influenced Guile’s theme from SF2.
Some of tracks sound they could fit into any 90s Capcom fighting game. It feels like many composers were listening to the same stuff.
So I put on anything of that time while I was working and unfortunately I didn’t note any of the artist names or songs for a lot of great tracks. But I’m convinced Tatsuro Yamashita is a musical genius. The quality of his constant output is stellar.
And then in the summer I got Spotify and made a 90s Eurodance playlist based on what was specifically featured on a Canadian radio show, it’s over 12 hours long so I reminisced and listen to that stuff:
Lately my brother, being part of a collective that released an album, worked on their videos and have been listening to their album. I’m biased but I think their opening track is pure genius. Here’s a track from the middle of the album, probably my favourite, that and The Next Fix:
JOYRYDE really one of the most talented, creative and recognizeable producers out there right now. Brilliant production values for a banging beat but an ear for beauty too. Love his stuff.
Feeling good on a Monday
Today I listened to the new album by Busta Rhymes, his style is great, lyrics too but the production for the most part just isn’t anything too interesting sadly.
Also the new Atmosphere, again production. What is going on there? Usually they are on point with that. Recently listened to the new Joyner Lucas, surprisingly good.
Non hiphop wise I listened to Bruce Springsteen’s new album, my brother told me he was going back to the roots but I didn’t think it was all that.
So good
Listening to Haru Nemuri’s energy.
The lockdown, the social distancing, the cold weather plus all the negative news almost every day are starting to affect me for good so I guess it’s time to dust off some more doom metal, post-punk, goth/dark wave albums.

Heard this for the first time today. The guitar solo at the end is epic. Reminds me of Freak Scene by Dinosaur Jr in style.
Ah, Slint. A friend of mine saw them play Spiderland live. I saw David Pajo play as part of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs once. That was great.
I’m more than a bit biased but Massive Attack is one of the greatest groups of all time, in my humble opinion, and almost single-handedly gave us a whole new genre of music (trip-hop) that’s influences have spread far and wide. Mezzanine is by large accounts, mine included, their best album but I honestly can’t think of one that’s weak; Heligoland and Protection are filled with banger after banger. Additionally, Robert del Naja does some incredible soundtrack work, sometimes under the Massive Attack moniker; Unleashed/Danny the Dog, is one of the greats you should check out for some great vibes.
Sweet! Thanks for the recommendations. I’ve been slowly getting into Massive Attack more recently.
