I’m not being condescending, the AI is bad, it’s as simple as that. There’s a difference between trying to emulate human behavior, making mistakes, and the brain dead AI seen in the clip below.
So the guy stopped on the track and the AI reacts badly. So the AI is bad, but nobody questions why this guy is at stop on a racing track …
AI is trained to race on the empty track or against other driving vehicles, can’t overcome an unexpected obstacle. That’s just how AI works, if you train a neural network to detect patterns in music, if you suddenly feed it human speech it’ll be unable to recognize anything…
NAh there are moments where AI just acts dumb and crashes
This AI isn’t trained to work against other driving vehicles from what i’ve played.
It’s good when it’s racing without competence but once you get close to an AI car it becomes stupid, and once you overtake him, even if you both were doing similar lap times, he’ll start losing like 3 seconds per lap.
IMO if you play this game on Career mode you must know you are limiting your experience, both the campaign and the AI need a lot of cooking, while the online experience doesn’t experience these problems.
This object can very well be a car that just smashed into a wall and is just getting back on the track. Good AI should be able to try and avoid other objects on the road like an actual driver would. Instead this AI seems committed to a basic racing line and does little to deviate from it. They don’t need trained AI to do that, they were already doing that on the PS1/Saturn days. Even when driving or when dealing with a moving object, the AI screws the pooch. If they didn’t add the new penalty system, it would be less of an issue but now every time the AI shows how stupid it is, I’m at risk of being hit with a time penalty that could prevent me from winning the race even if I come in first.
The game looks and plays well. Not sure why we are trying to act like it doesn’t.
I have never been able to enjoy sim racers but I am very much enjoying Motorsport. It’s fantastic!
Yeah, you are being condescending and patronising.
In real-life racing sports drivers crash and make contact, Lewis Hamilton one of the best drivers in F1 took his own teammate out the other week in BTCC there’s always a coming together and the sport is all the better for it.
Sure there are bad examples of poor AI in Forza like there is in GT7
For sure. But what we’re seeing here is beyond reason.
Maybe the best way to phrase it is that the previous Forza games had better AI in some of these respects. Never had an issue with accident avoidance in the previous Forza games where the cars, even if they couldn’t avoid a collision, made an attempt to.
I appreciate the complete reset on the AI and making it far more advanced in terms of decision making and agency, but it seems a bit rough right now.
What I hope is that, being that this is a platform now, the game sees updates to fundamental aspects of the game like the physics, graphics, and AI like we’ve seen with other platform titles like iRacing.
And so for the AI I really hope it is learning from all of these online races. Think Drivatar on a larger scale. Much like how AI nowadays mines the artwork of artists around the world and text based AI are mining social media communications, I hope they created something where their machine learning could be mining the millions of hours of race data from online play to build better models.
I think this also explains the reason why people are loving online multiplayer in this game. As I’m playing the Builders Cup I am dealing with an AI that will make predictably poor decisions like braking on the exit of a turn or during straights. I hope to jump online soon to worry more about attacking the track and jockeying with fellow racers.
I have seen no evidence of the AI being worse. And considering how well the game is doing, I really think nothing “happened” to Turn 10 and Forza Motosport except not living up to the unrealistic expectations of the terminally online.
Their seems to be a desperate narrative around to tear down Xbox first party exclusives.
Just look at all the stupid crap people were peddling about Starfield. A certain portion of the gaming public and alot of game journos are having issues dealing with this new Xbox and want to push negative narratives for clicks .
Sony fanboys click cause they delight in seeing Xbox failures and Xbox fans click to see WTF they are talking about when they are having fun laying these games.
Yep, the base races are some of the most fun and exciting I’ve ever played for a racer, and typically road racers like Forza, GT, Assetto, Project Cars are sterile and boring as hell
Forza did it though they made what is normally a sterile boring racing genre pretty damn fun and exciting. That is the MOST important thing for Forza. Everything else can be ironed out sooner or later.
How am I being condescending and patronizing, by saying the AI is terrible and giving multiple clear examples supporting this?
Of course there are collisions and bumps in real life racing. They don’t actively try to hit each other like they seem to do in this game though. If I saved a clip for every time I got unnecessarily hit by the AI, my capture library would be full. It’s nearly every race that I run into the issue and many times need to restart the whole race because I’m the one hit with a penalty, not the AI. Like I said before, the new penalty system makes this a bigger issue than it was before because it’s can prevent the player from winning a race even if they get in first place. They need to either fix the AI or remove the penalty system for the SP content.
And I don’t know why you keep bringing up GT. We’re not talking about or playing GT, and falling to what-about-isms doesn’t change how bad the AI is in Forza.
I highly doubt anyone here wants to tear down Xbox exclusives.
You’d be surprised.
There are def issues with the AI because I’ve encountered bad AI every couple of races. However , I assume that can be tuned after an update
Are you racing with Expert Rules? I have almost no issues with penalties but i’m using the Sport Rules where penalties are more lenient i think.
Yeah, it’s the only way that I know of to play with all simulation enabled. Wish you could micromanage those settings like you could in the past and earn a credit bonus per setting. If I could do that, I could at least use the rewind function (even though I don’t typically like using it) to mitigate those instances where the AI screws me over. I like the game feeling as sim as possible and feels great the more sim it is IMO.
There’s always dumb AI in racers and sure there’s some in FORZA .
I thought it wasn’t correct to say that because a game features fewer crashes that is somehow superior AI when in real-life motor racing be that NASCAR, Indy, F1 or BTTC there are crashes all the time and those feature the best and most skilled drivers in their respective sports.
I find the racing in-game in FORZA to be brilliant and a lot of that is down to the AI much like it was in GRID: Legends. Both feature much better racing compared to GT 7 for me personally
I didn’t like the comment You might be fine with bad AI. If I overreacted, then I’m honestly sorry. It just came across as condescending in either I couldn’t tell good AI in racer or I was happy with a subpar product.
