This is the first in-gameplay trailer for the new Fable

I saw that last night. She was really overwhelmed by her wheelbarrow showing up. IMO it’s ok for Fable to lift fairy tale elements as long as they are satirizing them. Like Shrek 1 and 2 (only with Pythonesque humor)

I genuinely don’t get some responses to this. It’s like people have never encountered a tone trailer for a game.

Of course they satirising things, of course they’re playing with fables, of course there’s more to it, and I’d bet my house you’ll run around woods with a sword smacking up bandits and monsters.

I just don’t get gaming sometimes. Feels like explaining a movie to my mum.

It’s hilarious because people have said they want a trailer for fable even if it’s not full gameplay to just get a sense of the game, then complained we got that exactly.

I mean you’re also completely wrong. There were very strong hints towards the social and living world aspects to the game. Entering a town and someone calling the hero a wanker, showing off in a tavern to a big group of people with a beer in hand. They are very heavily hinting at what to expect here.

Also Fable is well know for taking fairytales and fables and turning them into parts of the game. There’s a mission about getting a sword in the stone in the OG Fable and I’m pretty sure the sword was called Excalibur. I bet there’s a ton more that I can’t think of now.

I’ve seen this, it’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. And Fable was woke even before it was a thing. They had same sex marriage in the first game before it was even legalised in the UK.

Yeah let’s be honest it’s just a term by certain people that they throw out anytime a game or film or whatever features a non male, person of colour, etc as the main character. I genuinely can’t wrap my head around their line of thinking. Such is their level of ignorance i would not be surprised if there are people online that label the new Perfect Dark as woke because it has a female lead character…

It’s confirmation bias I suppose, if you showed them the most amazing looking trailer that they thought look brilliant but then save the reveal at the end that it has a female lead (or even POC lead designer, etc), then suddenly the same game becomes woke trash.

i reaaaally hope that the case of Fable being the only new game from the 2020 showcase (beside avowed/Forza) that got update yesterday is because Phil thinks the game could release after both Hellblade and Avowed. which are slated for 2024. maaaybe early 2015. oh for the love of god.

Watch the Matt Booty and Phil interview from Giant Bomb.

Not sure what that has to do with me prefering a stylized visual direction over the realism. I’m fine with a lot of things.

There’s a lot more to see and I’m not making any assumptions yet about what the game is or is not… But I strongly agree with your overall point. Really hoping that they retain and expand that aspect of Fable. Let you interact with the world and its inhabitants in ambitious, unexpected, and silly ways.

It’s probably way too early to say, but for some reason this trailer did give me the idea that it might be SP only after all. Or it does have optional co-op, but then I wonder who the other character is gonna be.

I’d be surprised if it won’t have any online elements.

Stumbled upon this:

I got to watch the interview.

People keep confirming it was real time gameplay but certain people on certain forums still think they know better than the developers. Fyd4reUWAAIv99y

i think what’s more impressive is the npc reactions in the trailer. my favourite is the one when the MC get shouted ‘wanker’. the bald guy and the lady on left side’s reaction was kind of funny.

I loved that part too. Makes you wonder why she was called wanker, lmao. Reminds me of how NPCs react to Trevor in GTA V and of course RDR2 but less comical.

We’ve seen too little but I can see this protagonist being someone that clowns around and what not, someone that is hard to take seriously and maybe that sets some folks off in that game world, hahaha.

I mean you can be an absolute ass and wanker in previous Fable games if you wish. Was it in Fable II or III where you could drag villagers to torture and death in a death cult fortress?

It also looks like whatever you do in front of normal NPCs like kicking a chicken, they will react to it.

Oh shit, i forgot about that last one. Yeah, there are several things they really should stick to. I don’t necessarily need fart and burp buttons, but some emotions you can trigger yourself and see how people react…that IS Fable.

The reaction by the dude with the wheelbarrow (I think?) is hilarious.

Oh, now i remember. In Fable 2 you could sacrifice your spouse in the Temple of Shadows for a shiny new weapon. Their last words were probably: you wanker!

I don’t know… A witch with a lot of jokes? Isn’t that Bard’s tale? Which MS owns… soooooooooo. I’d sign up for a new “The Bard’s tale” XD.
