The Ukraine conflict

A lot is happening right now. Ukrainians got the Russians to retreat back to the border in the North. The North of Kharkiv, and soon the North-East, will be fully in control of the UA.

It means Kharkiv is safe and UA will get units to move elsewhere and threaten the Russians supply lines in the region.

Russians also failed an attempt at crossing the Donets river with lots of tanks destroyed or lost.

The Ukrainian military said that the Russian offensive has stalled everywhere and they’re getting in defense mode. So basically playing sitting duck and get bombed.

If that’s all true, it’s good news.

Especially interesting since that strategy will not work out very well vs. the new weapons, epecially the longer range artillery, that Ukraine is getting to the frontlines.

Yeah, seems like Russia stalled again. Attrition is real and Ukrainian army is resupplied from NATO. Good luck.

Mhm, Russians going up against not only better trained soldiers and tactics but also soon better weapons, logistics, intelligence and a freaking Lend-Lease support.

As I was reading that article, they had a quote from the Japanese Prime minister about joining NATO, it seems more than likely. And South Korea has joined the NATO cyber warfare division with a formal invitation to join officially. This is becoming one of the biggest turning points in modern history

Yeah it is pretty much the exact opposite of what Russia wanted. Baffling how stupid they are in the Kremlin.

Reducing themselves to an irrelevant pariah and simultaneously revitalizing, strengthening and expanding NATO.

“We don’t want NATO on our borders, must destroy Ukraine” - Gets new 1300+km direct border with NATO via Finland… And the Baltic Sea is more or less a NATO sea with Sweden and Finland joining, i.e Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg are completely f***ed.

Putin will be remembered as …The One That United Europe and strenghten NATO… Shame that Ukrainins are paying for that with their own blood… Worls will never be the same again.

Simply masterful bit of geopolitical strategy from Putin. It’s actually quite impressive that he got Finland to want to join NATO, something no other Soviet and Russian leader was able to do.

Finland must apply to join Nato without delay, say president and PM | Finland | The Guardian

So I found this interesting. It mainly talks about how this war is potentially showing how warfare is being redefined, but it does touch on the future of this war and how it could change to a war of attrition.

I personally think we will need to wait until after the summer, as I still expect Ukraine to do a major counter offensive at some point with its new arms. However, if it does change to a war of attrition it will be very ugly, but history normally shows that the invader rarely wins.

Yeah, in many ways Ukrainian army fights like a 21th century army with modern drones, satellite communication, night vision and distributed databases for (autonomous) artillery fire. Big guns data on the battlefield.

It is very impressive how far the Ukrainian military has come since 2014 where they were honestly a joke really. They have used the short years very effectively where they can now punch way above their weight.

Yeah, NATO/Western training is really the difference. Even we had teams of instructors down there after 2014.

The biggest thing is the complete westernization in command structure, with NCO’s and independent descision making from units in the field. The Russians are still stuck in Soviet/Classic authoritarian style of rigid command from the top. That’s why dumb shit like that airport being bombed 20+ times or trying to cross a river in the exact same spot day after day, losing several BTG’s happens… It’s not only the Russian equipment that sucks, it’s the entire structure of their armed forces. Not to mention the soldiers being dumb af, but that is another Russian issue.

Thats why its so important for Ukrain to snipe the generals. After they attacked the command HQ the Russian offensive at Izium came to a halt for a week.

Yeah the amount of officers Russia has lost is much worse for them than it would be for a modern army. Not that it would happen since we have proper communications and good soldiers where we don’t need the Generals in the trenches hehe.

It’s really astounding how incredibly bad the Russian military is, at pretty much everything except raping children and murdering civilians unfortunately.

“we are very lucky that they are so fucking stupid” indeed

I assume without their commanders and generals breathing down their neck the normal Russian soldier is also not very motivated to risk his neck in the Donbass. They know the casualty rates. The Russian army lost more soldiers in 3 month here than in 10 years in Afghanistan. Its a very deadly war.

Yes, they have serious issues with morale. They even have Soviet-style NKVD units in the rear shooting at retreating soldiers to keep everyone in line. This role is filled by the Chechen mercenaries, who doesn’t give af about Russian conscripts. It’s a shitshow.

Perhaps they should target some of the Donbass rebel army leadership?
