The Initiative is working on Perfect Dark for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC

Really happy its out in the open and the trailer looks really promising. The amount of games coming towards Game Pass is just absurd. Also great to see PC is not forgotten in this, really like the approach of Xbox to bringing their games on all platforms.

I think the trailer have a great Interstellar vibe

Ideal scenario:

Deus Ex Mankind divided and Dishonoured is how the game plays. Quick transition between play styles is always available. Blink should be a gadget in the gsme.

No conversation system. Explore it in future games.

Level based ala Dishonoured with each level having it’s own unique hook. Element based would fit into the games eco crisis theme.

Joanna can only carry select gadgets and guns on her. Think original Deus Ex how you could only carry certain mods

I really don’t understand what’s you want me to say about the game? Should I lie and say that I’m very excited about Perfect Dark to make you happy?

I would prefer first person - and it really sounds like they are going fps with gopro inspiration for mobiliy

This sounds amazing mixed with the spy/stealth/gadget stuff imo

I am fine with third person though even if i dont prefer it

MS should be asking Harvey Smith for advice, I mean he works for them now

Why are you even in a topic raining on a parade? I greeted you with warmth at the start as did others. We are happy for each other, and I offered to tell you about it’s history so others could correct me and we could get a nice community going. But instantly you go that your extremely disappointed and other stuff like that.

I’m done, I’m at work and I’m not doing the discussion about camera perspectives yet again. You won, it’s fantastic and all games should be third person action adventure with an open world and very little actual playing, just qtes, checkpoints and markers where you need to go.

Sigh, didn’t think I’d get depressed about Perfect Dark making a return… But here we are.

Finally! My long awaited announcement since early 2013. The dream became true :’)

Opposite, for me. Though, since they don’t need to bother modelling/animating an actual character and worrying much about any decent combat, I’d have thought they’d be able to knock a 1st person game out a lot quicker than they are doing.

There’s a whole aspect of game design that 1st person games simply get to avoid, which is why I always think they’re a bit a cheap short cut.

Only dishonoured ever game close to decent 1st person combat and even then, it was mostly flailing about.

The problem is that Phil Spencer is a massive FPS guy and has gone on record about how he struggles to control 3rd person style games. I think that’s about 15/8 studios now doing 1st person games. The balance is way off. But as I said, if you want to churn out games quickly, it’s usually the way to go.

No third person game comes close to the level of gameplay that Deus Ex or Dishonoured offers. MS should explore more third person games of course, but not with PD.

There’s another thread on the forum where people are talking about Xbox advertising & PR. I’m of the opinion that Xbox have been bad at that stuff, but are getting better.

Well, here’s another step in the right direction

A cool reveal trailer for the game & accompanying short video with some of the lead developers talking about it. Boom. Done. Now we know Perfect Dark is back, we can build hype & look forward to more information next year.

I’m happy with this. Played the original game years ago. Don’t remember everything about it, but I do recall cool gadgets which were useful & helped mix up the gameplay, a cool setting, great level design (for the time) & great gunplay (for the time) that was similar to Goldeneye. Will need to replay it sometime soon (& give PD Zero a go, while I’m at it) to refresh my memory of the franchise.

Happy days!

SOD3, Starfield and TES and Fallout (hybrid 1st and 3rd person)

Add Asobo if they get them as well.

You make a good point actually. The game has to be 60fps if they are trying to go for the Gopro style movement, because 30fps would not be able to convey the smoothness of it.

Perfect Dark in first person let my expectations sky roceting… more immersive sims I need more!

Prey is still the king

Unless you’re prone to motion sickness or something, I think it so SO FUCKING BIZARRE to care so much about a camera perspective that it would disqualify the game for you, one way or the other.

If it includes cool gunplay, gadgets, and stealth, put it in 1st, 3rd, or 45th perspective, I don’t care.

I think this will be a full AAA game, not episodic as what’s been rumored. TI are always hiring and I think they’ll get to like 150 devs plus other studios helping out

Phil being a fps guy doesn’t have anything to do with what games XGS decide to make, all of them have creative freedom to make whatever game they like, besides 343i and Coalition.

Also, it is not right to suggest that they want to churn games out fast and hence chose 1st person perspective.

The initiative made Perfect dark 1st person because that fits their vision for the game. Xbox probably cares more about covering all genres then just having 3rd person games, which they already have a few of in the works.

Never thought about it straight away, but yes if this reboot does keep the Immersive Sim aspects then that’s another plus point in my opinion. Love that genre.

Those games don’t generally sell the big numbers & bring in the big bucks, so publishers have become wary of them… but Game Pass.
