Making PD third person and having the game be like UC or TR just completely shits over what the series is. It would have been a disaster for MS
Are you counting a studio they donāt even own?
Even the others, if both perspectives are available, it hinders /influences combat design.
Dual perspective is the cross gen of camera angles.
Try pulling off amazing combat like Arkham/DMC/Sekiro/Quantum Break, even MK in 1st person. Itās impossible. Even if you tried it couldnāt feel as bad ass.
All that said. If it has stealth and doesnāt rely much on combat, 1st person can work.
Super hype for Perfect Dark. One of my favorite games of all time.
As long as the story is solid enough, the graphics are good, and most importantly, the gameplay is fun, Iāll love it like I did the original.
The eco stuff is super cool too. Seems to be a way to have a bunch of diverse sandboxes for a primarily futuristic spy game. I love the idea.
Glad that the rumors were true!!!
the game they have invisioned works perfectly in first person. Id argue it suits the best. Immersive Sims like Prey. Weapons and gadets have more punch in first person too. As far as I see it shooting is best suited for First person and meely best for third person.
If its slower paced, maybe. A 1st person sneak game with hacking could work well.
no I was just adding to the arbitrary category popping up about how many games should be 3rd person or have that option otherwise xbox is somehow trash
I dont think hybrid perspective is as effective either, but I was just adding to the list being put up about xbox doesnāt have enough third person games.
What do you guys expect tone wise from this game? I enjoyed the goofiness of the original Perfect Dark and i hope they lean into that.
Serious with a dash of comic relief.
Something like Metal Gear/Yakuza would be a nice mix. Mostly serious in the main story but outside of that not afraid to joke around and have fun.
A sarcastic protagonist otherwise serious
Please I pray to the era gods that we donāt have some ridiculous discussion about TPS vs FPS.
They suit different games and offer different advantages. The obsession with one or the other is boring. Cyberpunk is very very immersive because its first person. Let the creators build what they think is right.
I think its great that PD is being resurrected and look forward to seeing what the Initiativeās vision looks like.
I for one am not shocked that a first person shooter franchise is continuing on as a first person shooter.
The developers should be free to make what they want and the customers should be free to express their feelings, both sides should be free.
Cyberpunk 2077 also seemed to have this first / third-person view debate when it was shown off. It feels like a natural discussion that seems to happen when story-driven games are announced. In a month or so weāll see how people feel about Cyberpunk and how they feel about it being a first-person game.
I think most people will appreciate that aspect of Cyberpunk.
Itās a topic that deserves its own thread, so I want to talk about The Initiativeās selection of Perfect Dark as the series of games theyāll be looking at making. Choosing an existing (perhaps nostalgic) IP is a good marketing move. Doing a reboot (whether soft or hard) also seems to be the flavour of the day and something that gamers are open to. Thereās a lot to explore in the universe and this is universe that has more to it than at face value.
I really like that theyāre leaning into the spy angle. It almost sounds like there will be first person parkour elements along with unique weapons (which still hold up today in regards to making the combat more cerebral). The realistic artstyle was predictable, but it was nice to see it confirmed after what we saw with PD Zero (which I still think had great multiplayer due to the high player count, large levels, and unique weapons).
Thereās good reason to be skeptical of brand new development teams trying to hit a home run at their first at-bat, but I think Playground Games serves to be a good example of an experienced set of individuals coming together for the first time and creating gold. This looks to be a team that understands why theyāve been assembled, and what level of quality is expected from them.
And it would be remiss of me to not mention the fact that Microsoft bought freaking Zenimax. Look, Itās a move that affects everything when it comes to MGS. If there were only five studios, or even 12 studios, there would be so much pressure to deliver this sooner than later.
With time granted to them, this is a team that I imagine will squeeze out as much as they can from every single atom on the Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 capable GPU on the Series machines. As with Sonyās and Nintendoās blockbuster games, thereās a responsibility of creating cutting edge visuals that we havenāt seen with Bungie or 343 (both create above-average to great looking games, but Turn 10 and Playground are the devs that Iād consider to make āstunningā looking visuals).
They could have worked on a lot of other IP, or they could have created a brand new IP⦠I think choosing Perfect Dark was smart. It already gives a team a sense of direction and a strong vision.
People can say what they like but stop trying to speak for anyone but yourself. First person games are hugely popular. Probably by any metric the most popular. Frankly I donāt think 99% of gamers care either way so long as itās a good game.
I think it helps that like PlayGround being formed by Codemasters alumni, many of the key staff at Initiative in leadership roles were from Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, and many of the key technical players have been from similar clusters (lots of Naughty Dog art and animation, Insomniac programmers, Rockstar writers, etc.) I think this could make the transition go a lot smoother.
I donāt care about other people. I said Iām not excited for Perfect Dark because Iām not a fan of the franchise and I prefer 3rd person games but you and some other members here didnāt like what I said because itās not positive.
there will be plenty third person stuff, dont worry
guys, can anyone make out who the narrator voice actor is? It feels very familiar to me yet canāt seem to figure out who it is.
Also, who wants to bet they brought in Camilla Luddington to voice Joanna (the VA for Lara in the recent reboot trilogy)?
